  • Ugh my GBS came back positive and to top it off the Dr tells me today that in previous bloodwork that was done from way back (she didn't specify 1st or 2nd tri) that they saw that my body built up antibodies for the herpes virus so that means at some point in my life I was exposed.  Ummm thanks for telling me this now, I've never so much as had a cold sore in my life and any STD screenings always came back nice and clean.  But now I have to take an antibiotic for this "just in case".  I'm all for the better safe than sorry, but wtf why wasn't this told to me waaaay back when it was first found :/
Maybe I'm missing something but why would you take an antibiotic for a viral infection? They give antibiotics for GBS but it would be asinine to give it for herpes.

Sorry, my medical jargon isn't so great.  Whatever Valtrex is, I guess antiviral then.  She said in case of an outbreak to protect the baby, but I've never had an outbreak anywhere.

There are a gazillion of different herpes viruses, some cause simple illnesses such as a cold... Other cause exhantematous ilnesses (rashes in the setting of a cold-like illness)... I wouldn't worry about it, unless you know the exact type of HHV they are testing serologies for.
Can I just say I'm so glad you're in this board?!  That makes me feel better, not going to lie I was freaking out a little.
    Thanks :)

To caveat this, many people NEVER have an outbreak of genital or oral herpes even if they have antibodies. Did you know chicken pox is a herpes virus? I'm sure you'll be fine, but I am sorry you have to be hooked up to antibiotics for the delivery. It'll be worth it in the end!

No way, I did not know that!  I've learned something new today, thanks girl :)   As long as my little peanut is going to be ok I'll do whatever they tell me to.

I'm actually really excited for you. You've been looking forward to this for so long now!

  • @elasticheart13 thank you!!!! I feel like we have been talking travel systems since the first tri, I'm so glad it's about to be done (as long as it arrives in one piece all the way from Edinburgh haha!!)

I bounced on one like it was my job during my last pregnancy starting around 38 weeks. DD was born at 41+3....
  • Well I just had my 36 week apt and I'm 2cm dilated and 90%effaced so that doesn't mean much other than my body's gearing up for the big day.
I've seen women go like this for weeks or a few days. It's such a waiting game.
im hoping to keep her in another week at least

Yeah I was all sorts of excited yesterday when he said I was 3cm dilated, and 70% effaced... Then lost my mucus plug... For real though, had some contractions yesterday and today but nothing strong, or worth timing... Now I'm just laying around watching Aladdin with my fiancé and going:
I'll repeat what my mom tells me when I complain about any of my symptoms: being pregnant is miserable, but it's SO much easier to take care of them and keep them safe now than it will be in a few weeks when they're here. It has become my mantra!

Doctor gave me oxycodone for my back and hip pain. I took one pill. I've never been high before, but DH is pretty sure that I'm high as a kite right now. I guess I'm sensitive to oxycodone? Whatever! I'm not dying from pain! Weeeeee!
Lol. At least your Dr gave you the good shit ;)

He gave me a few options.

    1. Physical therapy. He said it would probably take them 1-2 weeks to get me in to see a physical therapist and that it would probably take an additional 1-2 weeks for me to start feeling better. Ummm... I'm likely going to pop in 2-4 week. What would be the point of that??

    2. Take a week off from work. So I would use a weeks worth of vacation time just to go back to work for 1-3 more weeks and be in pain again? Nope. Next.

    3. Oxycodone. Sure, why not? Tylenol isn't helping me. Something stronger might.

Being on it right now, I have NO idea how I'm supposed to feel better for work, since there's no way I can take it when I feel the worst.

  • @fbanke42 unless you're in a tiny area with few resources, an outpatient therapy clinic should be able to get you in beginning of next week, especially during pregnancy, but really any of the time. You can self refer to PT, but an RX doesn't hurt to have at all, if you want to go this route pick a clinic and ask MD to fax an RX there, then call to schedule an appt. Physical therapy has seriously been a game changer for me for my SPD pain over the last 2 weeks. So very worth it.
  • @cmjenkies I'm not sure that it's as doable with Kaiser. I'm also to the point that I would rather do medication over use more of my PTO, since I pretty much need everything that I currently have for my leave. If I wasn't as far along as I was, had more PTO, and knew I was 100% going to get paid for my leave, I would be picking PT over meds.

  • WHERE are all these stains on my clothes coming from? Seriously I put on a shirt that I have worn twice and there are grease stains on the boob. I have no recollection of getting stuff on that shirt though. If I ever get pregnant again I need to only buy black maternity clothes or wear bibs....
  • DH jusst told me that he's thinking about getting a vasectomy. Ummmm... What? What happened to that third child we were talking about having in 4 years? As of right now, I STILL WANT THAT THIRD CHILD. Don't go making decisions about things on your own that aren't just about you.

I reminded him that we shouldn't make decision like that until we're absolutely ready to be done with kids, and I'm not there yet. I kind of want to mentally prepare myself for my last pregnancy, and an out of the blue "let's maybe be done" is not lettin me mentally prepare.

He then said he wants to be done at two kids. For now. Maybe. MAYBE, he'll want a third in about five years.

I thought that's why we agreed to me getting an IUD even though they FREAK ME OUT?! Since, you know, it lasts for THREE YEARS.

The oxycodone is wearing off. Emotional + pain = not ok.

  • For some reason I never got heartburn in my life until I was pregnant. I got chest pain a lot though that made me think something is wrong with my heart and I thought that was what heartburn was until my husband described it. I have now had heartburn twice. It's horrible!
  • @RoseShadow873 Chest pain can sometimes be heartburn related, if you lie down too soon after eating. That's how it used to feel for me, too (pre-pregnancy).

@fbanke42 Wtf DH?! Yeah he can't just do that without a thorough, thoughtful discussion ... Preferably after you guys have this baby and acclimate to him/her. That will change your family climate regardless. You both should remain open until then.
  • @Missingchampagne I told him we need to figure out our family once our second one is actually here before making any rash decisions... We may decide that we are done at two. We might get to 6 months PP and want five more kids! Making a decision right now about something that we don't have to because of our current financial situation? That's stupid. I don't plan on us making this amount of money forever. I know we wouldn't want to bring a third child into the world given our CURRENT situation, but it doesn't mean that in 3-5 years, our situation won't be changed completely. I may change my mind and decide that two kids is good. I need time before making that decision. Talking about a vasectomy while I'm pregnant with our second isn't giving me time to process.

  • I woke up with horrible heartburn, went downstairs to take a Zantac only to find out DH took the last one tonight
  • @fbanke42 my DH pulls that crap some times too. Usually when I'm having an especially tough pregnancy moment he says "we can always agree to be one and done right now" really?? Between suffering and emotional hormone moments NOW IS NOT THE TIME. Freakin men sometimes.....
  • DS just kicked me in the eye in his sleep... I really hope I don't get a black eye... We're doing maternity photos Saturday...

Now to try and attempt to go back to sleep for a third time tonight. I have to be up for work in an hour and a half.

  • @fbanke42 Did you decide on the flower crown or no?

    3 miscarriages - 1 DS (6) - 1 DD (3)  - #3 due March 30!

  • @fbanke42 can you just get him to agree to keep your options open for x number of years after this one? FWIW I loved my IUD and plan to get another one after this LO until we're ready for number two. Mike and I do not agree on the number of kids we want because he keeps changing his mind and we're both too emotional to make a permanent decision. Your husband may just be freaking out about the change coming his way very, very soon.
  • @CCLow87 DH ended up voting against a flower crown because "we're not hippies." I got him to help me pick a headband that has pretty floral designs on it though!

@AmadorRose He's not setting up an appointment for anything any time soon. I told him to wait, because it's something that I want us to be sure about before going forward. He spent about 20 minutes asking me about the effectiveness of IUDs, how soon they start working, and when I could get one in... So he's at least not completely shutting me down about more children. He pretty much spent the entire night drinking, so most of the conversation was built off of booze-filled paranoia and not sober rationality. Once we talk about it sober, I think he'll realize how much he does want one more child a lot further down the road when our situation has changed for the better.

So I just had my wellness screen for work (yay great timing) and the girl took my bp and it was 114/78....which is my normal. It's been high (hence being monitored yesterday) and I even took it right before I went down with the electric monitor I borrowed from my SIL and it was 147/97. I took it when I got back up and it was 141/95. So either the girl is an idiot and didn't take it correctly or this monitor doesn't work....hmmm...

She also dug through my arm to find a vein even though I told her which one to use....ouch.

Electric cuffs are notoriously inaccurate. Mine was giving me 160/120 readings and the nurse and hospital cuff were 140s/90s. (I know my readings weren't right, but that they possibly meant it was actually at least a little high.) I think @thaisac1 mentioned one time that electronics don't have brains, so to take their information with a grain of salt. Or she was an idiot.

Edited to add: Maybe the lady was an idiot. Not @thaisac1 - Just wanted to clarify.

I was popping Zantac at 4:30A after whatever I've eaten went on strike and decided to exit in both directions. It's been a rough night. At least the Zantac helped the heartburn aspect so I could lay back down. Lord help us all, I can't use any more PTO time to be off sick, but since I work out of my car, bathroom breaks are hard to come by, and the fear of diarrhea on the road is real, y'all.
