Another random subject: Any ST+Ms worried about precipitous labor? I wasn't really, until a coworker of mine shared his wife's birth story of their second child from earlier this year. She felt her first hard contractions at 2:20 in the afternoon and called him to leave from work. As he walked in the door around 2:40 she was on the floor in the front hallway holding their 2yr old's hand, her water broke, they called paramedics, and he caught the baby at 2:50. Holy H*ll. I know that this quick is very uncommon, but I'm not going to lie: the story has me a little fearful. I guess on the plus side...she had a 30min unmedicated labor.
Yes! This happened to one of my bosses with both of her pregnancies, and she barely made it to the hospital either time. Although isn't it unlikely to happen with your second if you had a normal labor with your first?
I think it just depends. In her case, when she had mild contractions an hour earlier, the doctors told her to stay home because with her first she labored 12 hours.

OK, not super related, but when my older sister got her wisdom teeth out she was hilarious, just like those Youtube videos, and she kept insisting that red-heads are more prone to precipitous labor to anyone who would listen! I have no idea why, but she was hell-bent on making sure everyone knew that fact. From the oral surgeon, to the nurse (to whom she bequeathed her stereo in case she didn't make it), to the poor girl behind the counter at Dunks when she NEEDED a strawberry coolatta on the way home. So, according to my drugged out sister, red-heads are more prone to precipitous labor.

Yes! I was induced and went a looooooong time without dilating at all. Once the dr broke my water I went from 2cm to 10cm in about 45 minutes. Although this was 18 hours into my induction, I'm still worried that if my water breaks I'm not going to have much time. My mom had a VBAC with me and I was born not even 4 hours after her water broke and contractions started. I would love to labor that quickly, but I would rather be at the hospital!

Is it bad that I am actually hoping for precipitous labor? LOL! All kidding aside, with my first child my water broke at 10pm, and she was born at 2:22 pm the following day. With my second, the doctor broke my water (he was worried about my rising blood pressure) around 8pm and he was born at 9:39am the following morning. So I am kind of hoping that this one flies right out!
PS - I don't remember losing my mucous plug with either pregnancy, so yes everyone is different! Also, when my water broke with my first, it was seriously like pools of water kept flowing out that there was no way I could confuse it with urine!

This was me too. Very long labor after induction, but once I had my water broken and epidural in, it was like 1.5-2 hrs until I was holding him. My doctor actually told me I need to completely forget my last labor because if I didn't, I'd probably have her at home or in the car. I'm not nervous about a fast labor, but I am super worried I won't listen to that advice and stay home until it's too late.
STM and I'm already getting vagina boogers. You can lose your plug and have it regrow back multiple times just FYI. I really can't get that birthing cat pic out of my head now

I'm terrified of it! I had a fairly average labor but long pushing. My doctor said this time to head straight in, so that's my plan. Agh anxiety over this has just escalated.

I have this fear but my fear mostly comes from DD2 being breech and this happening. Like will wake me up at night fear.

I took the quiz. Said I'm going to be going into labor soon or something along those lines. But the symptoms like back pain, discharge, insomnia, loose stools, etc are just a part of the 3rd trimester right?? Still could be a long time away. I'm not quite 33 weeks so I'd like her to hang in there some more.
Whatever you do...keep your ears open

I've only had the one labor and delivery earlier this week but, for the record, I never lost a mucus plug and my water don't break until my doctor broke it near the end. One other interesting thing. My contractions often didn't show up on the fetal monitor even though I knew it was labor. In fact, the doctor on call told me on Satruday and Sunday that I wasn't showing any contractions and it must just be dehydration. I delivered on Monday and they were still struggling to pick up contractions then on the monitor.

Interesting because I could have sworn I was having contractions the other day and I went in to be monitored and I was told I wasn't. On the opposite end of that spectrum, my mother was having contractions on the monitor but never felt a single one. She never dilated either--even though I was born at 41 weeks and 5 days.
I got "looks like you might not be quite ready to go into labor yet." That's a relief because I'm only 31 weeks.
I think I did feel some Braxton Hicks contractions though because early this morning in bed I felt cramps like I would during my period. Haven't had cramps or a period since before my wedding in August so that felt odd!
He was doing laundry last night and called to me. I went over and he was holding a pair of my underpants with a weird look on his face and asked "Is that the...ummmm...plug thingy? You know, the vagina booger mucus plug discharge stuff?" I couldn't contain myself and just started laughing so hard! I reassured him that, no, it was just normal discharge and also please don't ever call anything that comes out of my body a "vagina booger" ever again! He said he was concerned because I mentioned that Luna felt lower and "dropped" so he has been on water-break watch since then. Every time I pee he asks if I am sure my water didn't break, and how can I be sure since I just peed, and how can you tell the difference between pee and amniotic fluid! Poor guy is going out of his gourd.
Haha! I can't wait to tell my SO about vagina boogers. He will freak out. He was reading this article about pregnancy hormones and now I swear he thinks he's a doctor or something. The other day I had heart burn (not an uncommon thing at all!) and he says all matter of fact like "you know it's cause you have a lazy esophagus. Yup, your body is producing extra relaxin and it makes your esophageal sphincter lazy and then your acid goes up instead of staying where it belongs." Haha I just giggled cause he said sphincter with an accent
@charissadeats We are doing fine! Baby boy is doing superbly. He has a touch of jaundice but that's expected. He's been breathing on his own the entire time and hasn't needed any assistance. I will likely type up his birth story soon but right now I'm still exhausted and getting used to the routine of getting up every three hours to pump plus commuting to and from the hospital NICU each day. Not to mention the horrendous recovery from stitches.
@seasalt123 so happy to hear that you and your baby boy are doing well! Looking forward to hearing your birth story and new insights as an FTM with a newborn!
