*Update* Ginger Ninja Baby (and apologies for being MIA)

Hi ladies. I wanted to apologize for my absence for the past few days. In addition to recovering from the c-section, we also have had some feeding/weight issues with Brennon. He is tongue-tied and needs to have a procedure tomorrow to snip the ligament under his tongue -- it's significant enough that they feel that it will not only cause feeding problems but also future speech problems. Because of the fact that he can't get a very good latch, there was a delay in the arrival of my milk -- both his latch/sucking were not very good so he lost a significant amount of weight. We've had daily ped visits, but we are hoping (fingers crossed!) that we can start going every other day after today. I think he finally put on weight. We've had to do an aggressive feeding routine to ensure that my milk supply came in appropriately -- pump, BF, pump while Mr. Muse gives him formula. It has taken a lot out of us, hence my absence. But I think we've got a good routine down now.

*Update* -- we just got done with his weight check and he gained 2 oz in 21 hrs!!

As for me, my blood pressure is back to good numbers. I'm still on the labetalol, but we'll see how that goes. I also found out that I have a herniated belly button. Awesome. It's kind of pretty though, like a purple lily. I figure I might as well look at the bright side! (I don't know if anyone remembers, but a long time ago I posted about how I was unnaturally worried about changes to my belly button. So of course this happened, lol!) I also had that super swelling due to the pitocin and fluids during surgery. I have an awesome picture of my foot below.

Now for the fun part. Pics!

And.... elephantitis of the foot. Believe it or not, this was actually the third worst day. There were two days when my legs/feet were actually more swollen than this, hehehe.

For reference, my normal foot:

Hope everyone is doing well. I have another feeding that starts in about 15 minutes and then we have another ped appt, so this will be a post and run. However, I hope to have time this afternoon to start catching up! xoxo.

  • Baby Brennon is so cute! Congrats again! But can't believe your feet!

Love how positive you are and I commend on having such a great attitude despite having a not so easy pregnancy and delivery. Brennon is definitely worth it.

  • I hope the tongue-tie procedure goes well and helps correct your LO's latch.  Love the red hair btw. As a mom to one red head I will warn you that people will come up to you and tell you that your LO has red hair.  People come up to me  and tell me that DD has red hair all the time.   I kind of want to say "Really?! I didn't notice."

@LittleMommaBlueHen, that is too funny... and strange at the same time. My husband is a redhead and I'm a strawberry blonde. All of our friends and family have been waiting to see what his hair looks like. Of course we were not surprised that it was red, but there is a chance he could have been blonde too. Lots of fair hair, fair skin and light eyes in our gene pool.
  • I keep telling my husband that I would take the healing from the c-section over the leg/feet swelling any day of the week. It is so uncomfortable. I literally could not wear shoes, and it has been sub zero temps here with several inches of snow. I've been wearing slippers to all of our appts.

For me, the most dramatic difference is in the size of my lower calves and ankles. I have such skinny calves and ankles normally, lol.
  • Such a cutie!! Hope your swelling goes down soon! Good luck with his procedure!
  • He is such a cutie pie!  I hope his procedure goes well!  Thinking of you and him.

  • He is so precious! Good luck with all of your pediatrician visits and the tongue tie/milk supply.

And I teared up seeing your poor foot. When you had been talking about it, I had no idea that it was that bad. I actually didn't have a clue a foot could swell that big. I'm so glad your BP is going down. I hope the swelling is gone very soon.
  • Your poor feet!! I hope everything goes well with Brennon's procedure. He is adorable.
  • He is gorgeous! Glad to hear you're both feeling better. We'll be thinking of him when he has his little procedure!

@Arrgcr, I have a big personality -- If I'm going to do something, it's go big or go home. Apparently my body corresponds to my personality, lol. When everyone was talking about their swelling, I was thinking 'wow, I am surprised I never really heard about swelling this bad before!' I showed the pic to some friends and they informed me that they had never seen anything like it, haha. I had to get some XL PJ pants when normally I would wear a small or medium. I couldn't fit into anything. Today I might be able to wear some shoes that my mom got for me that are 2 sizes bigger than my normal size. FX!
  • What a cutie! I'm glad you are both doing better. Your poor feet!! Good luck with his procedure.

  • Good luck with the procedure tomorrow, hopefully B's weight gain continues to improve. He's super cute!

I've worked for 3 years in a hospital as a surgical PA and your foot is one of the worst cases of swelling I've seen. Hopefully that gets better really soon, too.

I feel badly saying this, but I laughed when I saw the picture of your foot. It's just so unbelievable.  Your little man is ADORABLE!! Love the little mini mohawk.  It's nice to see you back around here!
@wilburbud -- no need to feel bad, I laugh at them daily. I won't lie, that has been the worst part and annoying as hell -- but really, what can you do but laugh? It's not causing damage and it's not permanent.

@ksonne -- Glad to know that I wasn't going crazy thinking that it was unusually bad! I wish I had a picture of the actual worst day. I was just so miserable about it, I couldn't even bring myself to take a picture.
  • Your poor feet!!!! I worked as an ICU nurse for a while (and people a lot of time swell up while in bed in the ICU), and that's some of the worse swelling I've seen! I hope Mr. Muse is giving nightly foot rubs!

Glad that everything else is starting to turn around for you though! Hopefully the tongue tie procedure will clear up the BF issues quickly so your little red head can eat, eat, eat!
  • Omg your feet!! Baby Brennon is adorable! Hoping that once the tendon release is completed things go easier for you. 2 oz that's a great start in the + side. Congrats again!
  • First, no apologies for being MIA. We've all done it and we totally understand. What a big weight gain in 21 hours! From what I understand, clipping the tongue will make a world of difference for the two of you. I'm glad it got identified so quickly Holy mackerel on your feet! Not that I didn't believe you, but you see the pictures is shocking. I am glad that you, Brennon, and Mr. Muse are doing well!

  • @MarBee1214 -- I wanted to tell you. I weighed myself on Sunday when I got home from the hospital and then I weighed myself 72 hours later. I lost 12 lbs. I can't wait to see what a week brings! Thank you for the encouragement.
  • Congrats @peanutmuse! Brennon is adorable! Hope his procedure apogee well and your swelling goes down really soon.
    imageimageimage
  • Our little girl had a really bad tongue tie also. She was fortunately able to latch and I never had pain or discomfort. (The lactation consultant was beyond amazed when she watched her feed with how bad the tie was.) the tip of her tongue is not round but more like a heart shape.

I noticed she has had a bit of a rough time feeding last night and today after the procedure since her tongue is now "free". Good luck. The procedure itself was super easy and quick. I hope he is able to latch and feed normally after tomorrow!!
  • Oh my gosh, Brennon is absolutely gorgeous! Love the red hair (and also kind of jealous!).

I'm so sorry the swelling is that bad!! I hope it continues to feel better, and those lbs keep coming off!

Sending good thoughts your way for continued growth and health of you and Brennon!
