@HBMama2B your H knows what to do with a vanilla bean?!? I always have to clean them for mine even though he watches and asks questions all the time! We used some this weekend to make vanilla bean simple syrup for our morning coffee then put the pods in sugar to add essence. Lol

Mmmmmm. I use mine to make extract. It. Is. So. Good!
@MamaNicoleof3 I use them all the time. I have pods from Thailand that my parents brought home, Tahitian pods I bought from the restaurant I used to work at and Madagascar pods I got from a purveyor wanting us to switch to them lol. They're all in my fridge. I'm thinking that because it is Pi day, I need to make a pie... Might be time for a fresh fruit tart with vanilla custard though..
@sdLindenberg- please send me some fresh fruit tart with vanilla custard. Kthx! Dang, girl! I have.....random pods from somewhere because I live in MN and we don't get super fancy stuff here
Sorry I'm blowing up this thread today but also I just found out my little sister is pregnant and I'm so excited to have babies 4 months apart
Wait a sec. You mean you aren't angry because she's trying to steal your thunder?! You don't think she purposely got pregnant just to steal the spotlight!!?!!!! I thought that was the normal reaction?
Thunder is for idiots! My toddler son has a cousin 4 months older than him and a cousin 4 months younger! It's AWESOME to get cousins together and see how your siblings' little legacies are growing and learning!

Mmmmmm. I use mine to make extract. It. Is. So. Good!
I'll be honest here... I have no clue what to do with a vanilla bean other than to buy them and gift them to my DH. I know vaguely he takes it out and peels it and does something with the inside? So far, that method has worked really well for me. (Insert sheepish shrug)

Lol it's ok, they can be tricky split it longways, and using the back of a paring knife, scrape the seeds out.

Or buy vanilla extract like I do... because even with it sounding so simple and delicious, I would definitely screw it up! Props to all you chefs out there. I will settle for eating basic foods and watching the Food Network in awe.

Train your child to be a Master Chef Junior and then you get all the delicious food and never have to cook again. That's my plan. *evil laugh*

Where do these kids even come up with this nonsense? I'm lucky if the chicken I make isn't either dry as anything or still pink in the middle...
I have both vanilla beans and vanilla extract. I usually use the extract 8 out of 10 times. However, if I'm making something like sugar cookies that aren't getting decorated or something like a simple buttercream, it's getting both because I like seeing the little specks of vanilla. Lol. And creme brûlée too... Gotta use the real shit for that! And the heavy duty blow torch.
my kid will know proper knife skills at an early age, and will know how to make perfectly fluffy pancakes without burning them, because that is the one thing I hate most about breakfast foods.... Pancakes and how I burn them all the time haha. Granted I say this now, but more than likely I'll be too OCD about things and they won't even touch even a butter knife until she's about 10 hahahahah.
@sdLindenberg - If you need a taste tested for your child's pancakes (or your desserts), I will gladly apply for that position. I love pancakes and H doesn't like them (cause he's an alien) and so we never get to have them. He likes waffles though. He's odd.

Lol I'll keep that in mind I love all things breakfasty. Except actually flipping the pancakes. How can anyone not actually like pancakes though??
Also, just drank my chilled lime flavored glucose drink and it was delicious.
I'm so jealous your office had the lime one! Mine only stocks the orange and fruit punch ones and they were out of the orange...At least they were chilled.
Where do you buy vanilla beans? I didn't even know people did this! Props to y'all.
Some stores (like Sprouts, not sure if you have those) sell them individually, but they're like, $4 for just ONE bean. I think Amazon sells them, some regular supermarkets have them too. Google may also be able to locate stores or even food purveyors that sell to the general public in your area if not, PM me and I can send a couple out lol.
She just came in my office to, very loudly, tell me that it's a beautiful day outside (it is) and that we should really treasure every day and make every day beautiful. Then, I told her to go ahead and take lunch and her response was, again - very loudly, "HAHAHAH I'm just having so much fun. I don't want to ever leave." Okay.
I can't tell if she's just really annoyingly nice and peppy or if she's putting on an act because it's only her second week here. She seems like a genuinely nice person but she's giving me a headache and I'm going to need her to calm the fuck down.

I've found them at Kroger. Not cheap...but they're available.

This reminds me of the friends episode with Alec Baldwin!!!

I'm annoyed for you. She just sounds....weird.
Every day I have to be with her (we're on day 6 now) I lean further away from her being genuinely too nice to actually psychotic.
My MIL offered to book pedicures for her, my Grand-MIL, me, and my 2 pregnant SILs for after my baby shower this Saturday. Now she's freaking out that pedicures are a bad idea for pregnant women (inducing labor with the massage part?). She doesn't seem concerned with my SILs, maybe because they are both due in April and going into labor early wouldn't really be "pre-term"? Either way... I am so looking forward to this and I don't want the internet research to ruin it!

Ick. Let's hope it's just some odd, over-compensation, social awkwardness thing that she'll ease up on as time goes by. If not, well....Yay maternity leave?

If only it were that easy to induce labour!
I say casually ask her why hospitals use pharmaceuticals to induce labor when all they really need to do is offer mom-to-be a pedi and massage.

If I have to be induced, I'm asking for that method. Massage until I go into labor!
I don't think she'll cancel because of it (I hope not), she asked me to check with my doctor. She means well... I just really really really want a pedicure and I want it to be relaxing!

OMG, I love cooking the pancakes! Flipping them at just the right time is sooooooo satisfying.
ETA my technique... Make sure the pan is hot but not too hot or it'll just burn them. Then when you see pretty consistent bubbles throughout, that's the perfect time to flip! Mmmmm... now I want pancakes...
A woman I know is 35 weeks pregnant and is counting 37 weeks as full-term ie/ she's assuming baby will come "anytime" as soon as she hits that 37 week mark. I just want to shake her because she's about to make those three weeks the LONGEST WEEKS OF HER LIFE.

I've wanted pancakes for weeks. This conversation is not helping. I am now considering avoiding grocery shopping so that we HAVE to go get breakfast on Sunday morning because we will have no food. And then I get delicious pancakes and H doesn't get to complain!

Seems like people have a tendency to either over-freak-out or not take them seriously at all! Induction by massage sounds amazeballs I say just told her your doc said it was fine and then go ENJOY!!
