Just to stir the pot on baby clothes discussion, my UO is I don't like baby clothes that are 'adult-like.' I feel like until babies are at least walking, they should just be in comfy, PJ-type clothes at all times. I don't like tutus or frilly dresses or bow ties or sweater vests or jeans. Maybe when they're older.
I also dislike toddler, adult-like clothing that's kind of sexualized, like little girl cheerleader outfits or bikinis or mini skirts. Weirds me out.
I think they look ridiculous but it's a far better alternative than the way my parents got us to behave, plus I know I'll have THAT kid. It's karma and I don't want to choose between keeping the kid cooped up at home and instilling the fear of God in him or her.
I am ok with instilling the fear of mommy.
Not when that fear means getting the shit beat out of you, which is what I was referring to.
I used to get the belt and it's definitely not something I would do. I think corporal punishment was very common 'those days' and now it's really frowned upon.
I think it depends on the kid and the severity of the punishment. My dad had a really bad temper and he took it out on us for small things. I didn't need to be hit because the fear of disappointing my parents was enough, so I was rarely spanked. On the occasions I was, it was bad. My brother, on the other hand, would only respond to being spanked because he didn't care if something was taken away from him or he was given extra chores. My big take-away is that if the parent is upset, the punishment is not going to work the way it's intended because the kid isn't going to understand why they're being hit. It's like rubbing your dog's nose in poo after the fact - they're not going to get why and they're just going to be afraid of you. If you can catch them in the act, you scoop them up and take them outside to do it the right way and praise them when they do it correctly.
I agree that children respond to discipline in different ways. Hitting, beyond a tap on the bum or hand, is not an option for me even if I had THAT naughty kid who could probably use a really good smack. I prefer to use other means of getting a child to understand that their behaviour is lousy and unacceptable.
@redselig I probably won't spank because I know my temper and that could definitely be detrimental; my husband is very even-keeled, though, and I wouldn't bat an eye if he decided it was warranted.
@emgee27 I can't handle 6-year-olds who dress similarly to the way I dressed in my bar-hopping days. Nope.
I really hate onzies or anything with a phrase or saying on it " daddy's girl" "sweetie" etc...I don't like little characters on clothes either... Just no
I will happily agree that anything with a character on it is tacky, and I'll happily skip most of the clothing with phrases on it... but I'm a sucker for anything item of clothing that mentions "daddy." Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Princess, Daddy's Little Sweetheart, I Love Daddy... I will buy it all. I don't have a relationship with my dad, though, so the thought of my little girl having a special relationship with hers gets me all kinds of sappy.

GET OUT!
I think most of the outfits I've bought meet the comfy requirement, but there is too much cute stuff to limit to PJ-type clothing. Especially when there are adorable tiny dresses I can stuff the baby into.
I dislike TTT. I do not want to read a list of ten random, unrelated things about each person, but somehow I usually tend to forget what that stands for and end up clicking it anyway. Then I have the darn yellow update notification stuck to a thread I never wanted to read anyway! (Maybe it's not an UO, given that it rarely goes beyond a page or two?)

After I go back to work, DH will be the primary dresser. Sleepers & onesies all the way!
I strongly dislike clothes with Disney characters on them. I cringe at the thought of giving my son a onesie with Winnie the Pooh on it. I don't mind others using it, but just not for me.

Meeeeee toooooo!
I hate any and all characters on kids clothes, especially sneakers. It looks cheap and tacky to me.

I've participated a few times, but I've noticed that it rarely spurs other discussions or responses. I think two things Tuesday would be much more effective and would encore more conversation since there is less to weed through from each person.
3 miscarriages - 1 DS (6) - 1 DD (3) - #3 due March 30!
I love Disney, and I'm sure baby boy will rock many a Mickey onesie - in fact we were given one today!
I read an article today about people crowd funding their maternity leave... Apparently that's a thing?? Sorry, but no! I can't get behind that.
Crowdfunding in general just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. Like, I get that medical bills can be tough to afford, and that a funeral can be costly or whatever, and I actually don't have a problem quietly dropping a $50 in an envelope with a get well soon or a sorry for your loss card for someone I know. I've discretely written checks for friends going through rough patches or big life changes. But when did it become standard to start a big public fundraiser for every single major life event? Add in a public fundraising goal and the chance for all your friends and acquaintances to publicly display how much they're contributing, and it just becomes that much tackier.
Seems like it's usually friends or family starting these fundraisers, so I don't blame the recipients. I'd be embarrassed as hell myself, though.
My UO for this week: I can't handle how accepting everyone is of the "Daddy has to protect his daughter" from any and all males bullshit stereotype. I HATE seeing memes with shotguns about it, and I feel like it just sends the message to girls that they are too stupid to make decent choices for themselves.
UO: I can't stand Ellen. She is not funny and she seems like she is trying too hard and only really famous for being a lesbian.
Oooh girl... We might not be friends over this...
I already lost a friend over it....
I think if you look through my posts about some of my friends you'll see I actually have a very high BS meter for people. Even if they don't make the best life choices :P Admittedly a big part of why I love her is because she is a lesbian... And a fabulous one at that! For real though, I still identity as a lesbian, much to my fiancé's chagrin lol.
Hey it's UO. I knew people would get mad if I badmouthed Ellen. She's like Costco, which I don't like either.
I don't know what a Costco is exactly.. Is it like a Sams Club?
Yes, I have heard they are comparable. I have never been to Sam's Club actually.
I've never been to a Costco either... I dislike Sam's club though. And haven't stepped foot in a Lowe's or Wal Mart in over three years. I hate shopping there and I hate the corporation.
I like Walmart! The ones in my area are pretty clean, although I have been to some gross ones where I'm sure all the People of Walmart jokes come from. I like that I can get most of my shopping done in one place. Toiletries, groceries, random household items. I don't do all my grocery shopping there, I like to get produce and some other things from Publix and meat from Fresh Market.
Costco is much nicer than Sams for sure. I love Costco but hate Sams... Sams is pretty dirty and crappy quality stuff.... At Least the one near me anyway.

I feel the same way. Sam's Club is Walmart warehouse and Costco (if I remember correctly) was started for small businesses. We've found that Costco's meats/cheeses/seafood in particular is far better and cheaper than what we find in the grocery store. In fact, we just bought a huge piece of wild caught salmon that DH smoked yesterday and it was amazing.
Personally, I hate Walmart and Kmart. They're gross. My hate for Walmart stems from the fact that they use some of their revenue to support some disgusting causes, and I refuse to let my money go to hate. There are actually quite a few places I don't shop at or donate to because of where some of the money goes to. I highly suggest looking at where your favorite brands donate their money too. You may be surprised that they support something that you are completely against.
Costco is ok for specific things, but in general, I don't shop there because I would end up wasting all of the money they I "saved" because I didn't use the product fast enough.
I never really cared for Ellen either. I think she's a nice lady but I don't like her shows. I had the same reaction from people when I said I didn't like Harry Potter. I call him "Harry Pooter." lol
Costco is better than Sam's, but does their membership cost more? And if Target was closer to my house than Walmart I'd go there over Walmart any day of the week.
I also have a love/hate relationship with Target... They've done some terrible things to small businesses (like stealing their iconic designs), but they also sell some awesome stuff...
@fbanke42 I'm pretty conscious of those things as well. As much as I love Hobby Lobby I can't get behind their stance on access to all forms of birth control for the insurance they provide. I won't eat at Chic FIL A because of their company owners public opinion about the LGBT community. (And I've personally known too many gay people who have worked there and were discriminated against because they have an unwritten don't ask don't tell policy)
The Costco saving money thing definitely doesn't make sense for my household either, but growing up as the oldest of six kids it was a game changer for my parents! (Although we have Sam's clubs here and I'd never heard of Costco until I lived in NM)
@Knottie9983816 Thankfully, I don't have a Hobby Lobby close by. It's just Joann's and Michael's for craft supplies. I've never been to Chic FIL A, and never plan on it. When same sex marriage was legalized, I was secretly hoping that companies who had very publicly opposed same sex marriage would see an influx of employees adding their same sex spouse to their health insurance.
It may be a UO, but I don't think companies should be able to donate money to politically charged causes. Donate money to foster kids? Go for it! Donate money to fund an anti-abortion campaign? Nope.
I I think I need to say "same sex" at least one more time
I hate baby clothes with characters or words on them, and most baby clothes in general. I have to pick them out myself or they inevitably get returned. So far I've only found two stores I like for boy clothes - Old Navy (usually) and Ralph Lauren. I walked around Carter's, Target's baby section, Gymboree and The Children's Place and nearly gagged. ha.

I don't get why people care whether I like a certain celebrity or not even if it is their precious Ellen. Obviously I don't know her personally but from her presence on TV I do not like her at all and think she's annoying. Why can't people accept that?

I can see your point if you're coming from a publicly held company like Apple or Walmart, but privately owned companies can and should be able to donate to whatever causes they want. That's like saying a small locally owned grocery store can't contribute to a food pantry because that food pantry has a certain stance on welfare. It's someone else's private business, so it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. The joys of a true laissez faire economy.

Yeah, I am super pro-choice, super pro-gay marriage and super get-access-to-birth-control. But I also think privately held companies should be able to do what they want.
I eat at Chic-Fila AND I shop at Hobby Lobby. And I'm not afraid to admit it. Out of curiosity, why shouldn't a privately held company be able to fund anti-abortion campaigns? They are entitled to their own beliefs (no matter how much I don't support them personally)

I stopped shopping at Hobby Lobby when they filed that lawsuit. Which made me sad, because I loved that store! Michaels, Etsy, or Amazon now. I don't eat at Chic Fil A, but I don't really care for their food, so no love lost there.
Costco is the bomb and Sam's just doesn't compare, quality wise. I love that you can return almost anything at any time to Costco - our toaster oven stopped working a few months back, about a year after we bought it from Costco. Took it back for a full refund and don't even need a receipt since they have it all in your account info. Also, Costco pizza is the best, and Costco gas is usually at least $.10 cheaper per gallon than anywhere else. We actually have an executive membership ($100/year, I think?) and it pays for itself and then some in the annual cash back rewards. That said, I let my membership lapse when I was single because it wasn't worth it financially. With a husband and 3 stepsons, it's an absolute necessity.
As someone that is a huge animal lover and has a 15-year-old incontinent, diabetic, and tumor ridden Rottweiler, I agree- pets are disgusting. But I love them!

Ha! This is what I do for a living. I raise money (PAC dollars) for my company to give to elected officials/ think tanks/ grassroots efforts/ etc.
