UO: I can't stand Ellen. She is not funny and she seems like she is trying too hard and only really famous for being a lesbian.
It is totally okay to dislike Ellen, but this comment is really offensive
Meh I get where she is coming from. I think given her current media trends it's easy to not necessarily know her background. She IS more famous for her stances on gay and lesbian activism than her comedy and acting career.

I strongly disagree. She has done stand up comedy since the early 1980s, she has been in 10+ movies (Finding Nemo!), she has her own sitcom, she has her own talk show, she hosts TV/ award shows and NONE of this has to do with the fact that she is gay.
@Knottie9983816 Thankfully, I don't have a Hobby Lobby close by. It's just Joann's and Michael's for craft supplies. I've never been to Chic FIL A, and never plan on it. When same sex marriage was legalized, I was secretly hoping that companies who had very publicly opposed same sex marriage would see an influx of employees adding their same sex spouse to their health insurance.
It may be a UO, but I don't think companies should be able to donate money to politically charged causes. Donate money to foster kids? Go for it! Donate money to fund an anti-abortion campaign? Nope.
I I think I need to say "same sex" at least one more time
I can see your point if you're coming from a publicly held company like Apple or Walmart, but privately owned companies can and should be able to donate to whatever causes they want. That's like saying a small locally owned grocery store can't contribute to a food pantry because that food pantry has a certain stance on welfare. It's someone else's private business, so it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. The joys of a true laissez faire economy.
Yeah, I am super pro-choice, super pro-gay marriage and super get-access-to-birth-control. But I also think privately held companies should be able to do what they want.
I eat at Chic-Fila AND I shop at Hobby Lobby. And I'm not afraid to admit it. Out of curiosity, why shouldn't a privately held company be able to fund anti-abortion campaigns? They are entitled to their own beliefs (no matter how much I don't support them personally)
I probably should have said that I'm against publicly owned companies doing it, but I can tolerate privately owned companies doing it since they are PRIVATELY owned.

I wonder if this is partially a generational thing. I'm an old fart and knew Ellen as a well-established tv sitcom star and stand-up comedian before she even came out, so maybe it depends when you knew of her.....

I think maybe the anti-abortion campaigns should donate to the foster kids, since - you know - they've likely helped to increase that population in the first place.

Yeah, I think of Ellen as a successful woman who happens to be a lesbian. And while I think she has done wonders for the LGBT community, I don't think her fame hinges on that. She does a lot of good for a lot of people and has had a varied and successful career.

I legit had to google her to see what she did before Finding Nemo, so that very well may the case.

I'm old enough to remember her sitcom and I actually did watch it when it was new but it seemed like she wasn't really popular until she made out with a woman on TV. I don't think my comment was offensive at all since I consider it to be rather true just like that Trump is famous pretty much for being an asshole. At least I can name a reason she is famous. I honestly have no clue why Oprah is famous.

I didnt think I'd ever dress my kid in character clothes until we walked into h&m and DD honed in on the Disney character clothes there. They make her so happy and that makes me happy.
