@sgoldberg247 I have my glucose test tomorrow morning, and have also decided that today I will abstain as much as possible from super sugary treats. I have a HUGE needle phobia and do not want to take the three hour test! My doctor sent the orange flavor home with me last appointment since I live an hour and ten minutes from the clinic, so I will drink it on the drive in tomorrow.
Good luck!  My office is apparently super lawsuit-phobic and won't let you out of their sight once you've drank the sugary crap.  I also am super needle phobic (I almost passed out after the draw today....again) so I'm sitting here hoping my results come back in normal range so they don't need to do the 4 blood draw nonsense.

Yuck. I feel ya. Tomorrow is the blood draw and TDap, I already know I won't make it through the appointment without passing out. (and usually I end up having a mini seizure when I pass out due to needles... labor is going to be so much fun *sarcasm*) I hope you're feeling better by now.

  • I'm sitting in my doctors office waiting for my hour to pass for the blood draw after drinking the glucose drink.  It's going to be a long hour.

I've only had a mini-seizure after a draw once but I feel you on the "fun-ness" of labor.  I've gotten really close to passing out at every blood draw appointment thus far so it's only a matter of time before I full on pass out.  Feeling better now, once the dizziness passes I'm 100% okay.  It's just waiting for my body to get its shit together.
  • I had my glucose test on Saturday as well.  I'm assuming I passed because they sent me my results and there were no flags and I did not hear from my doctor yesterday, which I figure I would have if I had failed.  I had to take the two hour test and the drink didn't taste so bad going down, but the aftertaste was icky.  And I still have a bruise on my arm from all the shots.
  • @CourtJack- full on pee? Wowza. I just leaked a bit- enough to change my undies, but still. I can't imagine a whole bladder's worth :-/

Yep. Puddle on the floor. It only happened that once, but still - so odd.

I have my glucose challenge tomorrow. I feel like I'm the only one not freaking out about it! Maybe it's because this is my third time doing this...??

Also, I really love peeing my pants when I sneeze....said no one ever, especially an already uncomfortable preggo.
I'm not freaking out either-but this will also be my third time doing it. Last time my midwife sent me for the three hour one straight away as my first baby was 10lb+. No GD on either kid and my second baby was 10.2lbs. I have to go for my test at some point soon I guess, but I'm not worried.

I recall after my second baby was born, like a few days after, I was in the kitchen and I sneezed and full on peed my pants. Like there was nothing I could do to stop the pee, even after I was done sneezing. It was the oddest sensation ever. Cant WAIT for that to happen again. So magical. So special.

    Ded.
    LOL. yes!!!! captured it perfectly.

Good luck to all with upcoming glucose tests!

I'm not freaking out, but am hoping I pass the 1 hr--though my midwife didn't mention anything about scheduling the test for my next appt about 28 weeks? I am not a huge fan of blood draws, and the tech at my dr is an ice cold, rude, beyatch. Ugh. I'd much prefer to limit contact with her for fear of snapping, and pissing off the lady with the giant needles.

    @CourtJack: :(
  • I hate the glucose test.  Last time I attempted the three hour twice and I threw it up both times.  I haven't done it yet because its not as big of a deal with everything else going on.  One perk of a multiple pregnancy!
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • Best of luck to the ladies either getting their glucose tests or are waiting on results! And for the ladies who are experiencing snissing and cough-peeing...may I recommend Always Discreet "for sensitive bladders?" I don't go without them at this point.

I had a dream last night that my baby came out Japanese and then my doctor apologized and said they accidentally used the wrong sperm.  (I am a single mom by choice and had an IUI with an unknown donor to become pregnant).  My donor maybe unknown, but I do know a LOT about him, including his race and lots of health information.   I had to say, besides the shock, it was one of the best dreams I've had in a long time because it was basically just me taking care of my baby boy and I loved him so much!  Granted, we were at Disneyland, but dreams are weird.  I woke up this morning so excited for my baby to be born.
We did IUIs too and a small part of me worries that the vials of sperm were mixed up.

@ahernandez16, yeah, that episode is rough.  I think if I was pregnant the first time I saw it, I'd have the same response as you.  And for what it's worth, I really liked the show--but because so many of the doctors deal with pregnant patience you are going to see a lot of things that will scare you or make you worry.  Remember it's just TV and they bring out the dramatic things that can happen/go wrong because it makes for better tv.

I talked to the midwife I saw at my OBs today about if I could breastfeed on my current medications--I haven't found any really sound information either way online for one of them.  She looked them up and told me they were both L3 medications, but at that lebrl
the benefits outweigh the risks--especially since they are medications for depression and other like issues and she said that breastfeeding helps slow the hormones returning to normal which helps keeps emotions more stable.

  • I'm so jealous that so many of you have the option of refrigerated glucose drinks. I had to have one early because diabetes runs in my family and it wasn't just room temperature, but like... warm. So gross and I almost vomited.
  • @ahernandez16 I bought a Snuza off craigslist and my husband absolutely refused to let me go by myself for that reason. I totally know what you mean about the possible crazies out there.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, there were several stories about crazies cutting babies out of third trimester moms.  I freaked OUT.  One story involved a woman who attacked an expecting mom in her garage while she was unloading groceries.  The mom was able to start running and yelling and a neighbor helped her.  For the rest of the pregnancy I locked my car doors and closed the garage, watching for people running in the entire time, then got out.  Ridiculous, I know.  I haven't done it recently, but considered it the other day.  :O

RE: sperm vials being mixed up, I started watching Private Practice (Grey's Anatomy spin off) a few weeks ago and that was one the topic of the episodes on there. Yikes.

The last episode I watched ***spoilers, maybe, if you're currently watching but I'll be super vague, no names*** was about a pregnant woman being attacked in her home and given a botched C-Section by a lady with serious mental health issues who had lost a pregnancy and was convinced the aforementioned lady was carrying hers. I told H when he got home that night that I was making zero new friends until after June and shouldn't be allowed to go anywhere alone or be left home alone. I also should probably stop watching this show until after June but that's not happening.
This almost exact same thing happened in real life recently. The woman went to meet up with another woman for baby clothes (they met through craigslist) but the woman who put out the add used it as a lure to get the 7 month pregnant woman into her home where she attacked her, cut the baby out of the womb and left the woman for dead. The attacker brought the baby to the hospital and said she had the baby at home and told her Bf and family she had kept the pregnancy a secret. The victim was able to call 911 and survived but the baby girl did not =( the attacker WAS NOT charged with any type of murder because apparently an almost full term baby isn't a human.

ETA- she was 8 months not 7
  • @lilwatz @alysemciver the real stories freak me out too! I watch a lot of true crime stuff so I had heard of women stalking/befriending or luring pregnant women to them via craigslist and cutting out term or near term babies and claiming them as their own well before I got pregnant myself. That's why I haven't really bought any baby stuff from craigslist or buy/sale things on Facebook. If I do have to go out alone I usually try to wear bigger clothes that don't make my pregnancy look as obvious. Crazy that anyone even feels the need to take precautions like that.

I can't believe that woman didn't get charged with murder though! Like 10 years ago in CA there was a case of a man who killed his wife who was 7 months (I think) pregnant and he was charged with 2 counts of murder because the baby was considered viable outside of the womb.

@ahernandez16 YES that's exactly how it should be. If a baby can live outside the womb how can you not count it as a person?! She would have been alive and well had the woman not cut her out! I can't imagine the pain and injustice the mother feels

  • @MamaNicoleof3  I think I had the baby at Disneyland.  I'm not sure exactly.  But I do know we were at Disneyland and baby was like 2 days old.  One of the people in my dream (a coworker in real life) was very concerned that I had enough diapers.
  • Just left my 24 week check up & they gave me the glucose drink to take home & refrigerate... It's fruit punch flavored, I hate fruit punch!!

Also, the scale was not my friend today... Woof. I'm blaming it on being mid day, having eaten, drank 4 bottles of water, and being backed up... If that # is reality I just hit my max desired pounds for my whole pregnancy!

I'm not a huge fan of fruit punch either but at least the one my office had (easydex I think) wasn't too bad, especially cold.

  • I think the baby being counted as a person thing is on a state by state basis. My best friend is an ICU nurse here and they have a lady that has been completely brain dead since Christmas that the state is making them keep on life support just  because she is pregnant. She was 17 weeks at the time of the accident and they will take her off of life support as soon as they deliver the baby at 37 weeks. It isn't even up to the next of kin (her mother did not want this to happen). It is very sad especially since the baby likely has developmental issues as the mother was not breathing at all for 30 minutes after the accident.

That happened to someone in Florida too I think, but her family sued the state and won the right to take her off life support.  I think they determined the fetus wasn't developing normally anymore too, due to lack of oxygen, but I could be wrong....
  • @ahernandez16 I'm on season 4, episode 11 of Private Practice. I recently finished binging all of Grey's and moved on to PP to fill the void ;) That scene was so intense!!!
