Weekly Randoms go here...

Re: Weekly Randoms go here...

  • Thanks ladies! I'm just going to keep my doubts to myself, keep a running list until she gets here and hope that once I hold her I will just know.

I also have been thinking about hyphenating the last name. Which I know is not going to go over well, but we are not married, I do not ever see us getting married and I don't want a completely different name from my child. I feel like that is the fair way to go. Could cause ww3 but I'm going to keep it to myself for now and cross that bridge when we get to it (especially since I could change my mind on this too! Lol. Damn hormones!!!!)

@CourtJack - I have a TON of sick days and since I am probably quitting this job after maternity leave is over (since we are moving and the commute would be 1.5 hours), I have seriously considered being "sick" a few random days here and there.  You don't need a cold to have a "cold" and sleep on the couch!

So true. And it may get to that point very soon. I just have serious guilt issues when I'm not actually sick and I spend a day at home. It's so stupid and it annoys me.

But c'mon, my daughter has been sick on and off now for a few weeks - and when I'm home she is super-glued to me - HOW have I not caught even a little sniffle yet? Damn you suppressed pregnancy immune system - start living up to your reputation! :)

I was literally just telling H how a lot of ladies on here seemed to have gotten sick this winter because of a weakened immune system and I got shit. My entire family got a nasty bug that landed them in the hospital puking for days and nothing.

Not that I wanted THAT, but sniffles and an excuse to stay home would've been accepted.
  • Oh and I just caught up with the baby shower post. It was worth the read. I found myself sympathizing with OP and chuckling at the reactions of some posters. Major kudos to her for coming back like that (even though I think there were more people than her who should've been apologizing).

Ha! Right? I'm going to start licking people soon.

    (just kidding. that's gross)

  • @lunagirl79 I love the name we chose but I can't say it out loud. I don't want to buy anything personalized and it drives me nuts that people already refer to him by his name. I don't know, I just feel like it isn't his name yet if that makes sense.

So I lovingly refer to him as baby, little man or "the kid" lol and plan to until he's born. I'm sure I'll feel weird the first time I call him his name.
We don't choose a final name for baby until after birth for that reason. It doesn't feel right until you meet the baby to me. How do you name someone you've never met? I've heard of parents changing their minds after birth and others have already bought/made personalized items.

  • Speaking of names... over the weekend I went to dinner with one of my sisters (she has 2 little girls). She was trying to guess my baby names (which I told her there was no point in doing because I wouldn't tell her even if she guessed) but she wanted to play for the fun of it just so she could "say she guessed it" if she was right after the birth. Anyway... during the course of this conversation, she drops like 5-6 names that she was considering naming her second daughter (obviously none of which she used) but one of them is my top girl name. It totally threw me for a loop. I had no idea she considered the name, its not popular, and its not a family name either. Now I'm kind of annoyed that if I do go with this name (its been our front-runner forever but there is 1 other name that is also really growing on me) that she is going to think I took it from her list. She is (we think) done having kids... but still... would anyone else feel weird about this?? Let me couple it with... the middle name of a our girl would be the same middle name she chose for her first (because it is my maternal grandmothers name and I've always loved it so I felt like she couldn't lay claim to a family name & only allow her to use it when we all had a special relationship with our grandmother and it would mean a lot to my mom (whose name she used as her 2nd daughters middle name). This could all be a mute point if we have a boy... but its weighing on my mind and I wanted to hear some opinions?

  • @MsBeachNJ - How annoying of her.  I wouldn't let it bother you though.  Who cares what she thinks if it is the name you guys love.

On the names thing, H started using a name I wasn't 100% sold on and it irritated me...until he started using the diminutive form of the name (her nickname) and I fell in love.  I still made him sit down with me and discuss all our name options but once he started using the nickname, I sort of new the discussion was moot.  Blast him!  ;)

Anyone else having labor dreams already?  I had my first last night.  I had no way to get to the hospital and my husband was gone somewhere out of town (and it was early to go into labor).  So I walked miles to the hospital...with a cat in my arms who kept biting me (I don't have a cat either).  I kept tripping, falling and getting back up again to keep walking and no one was helping me.  When I got to the hospital, some lady shoved me aside at the front desk and thought I was homeless or something because my clothes were so dirty from falling.  When I got called up to the desk, the nurse didn't take me seriously that I was in labor and told me to go home.  I woke up feeling pretty crappy after that fun dream.

I understand your concern, I'm imposing a blanket ban on "guess the name" for that exact reason, I just dont want people to think they were the one who picked the name when we've been set on a name for months  (we think).  As far as the middle name, I wouldn't feel weird about my daughter sharing that if it's a family name.
  • MsBeachNJ I would still stick with it if it is what you love.  If she turns around and says anything, you could just smile and say, I was totally shocked you guessed it for XYZ reasons.  Could you tell by the look on my face that you guessed it?  Or did I do a good job not reacting?

If she brings it up, I would want to make it known that you didn't steal it from her.. because I am protective of that stuff too.

  • @mkemommy What a terrible dream! I've had a few labor dreams already, but I'm terrified of labor and so I know that's why I keep dreaming about it.

My random today. H bought me a prenatal massage for my birthday a few weeks ago. I called today to book a time to have it done and was informed that they only have men certified to massage pregnant women... this seems so strange to me, and I kind of want to ask H if he knew it would be a man giving my massage. Ha!

  • @gray51015- that would make me so uncomfortable, and I have no shame about that random stuff!
  • @gray51015 On the bright side, men have stronger arms and hands for better massages...
  • @mamanicoleof3 I haven't decided how I feel about it yet, the girl who scheduled the appointment was all "Do you prefer Paul, George or Trevor.."

    @kwife15 You're right! I didn't think about that.

I haven't gotten many massages in my life, but they've all been from men.  Even our couples massage on our honeymoon, I had a man and H had a woman.  As long as they do a good job, I don't mind!

  • I had such a hard time using DS's name after his birth because it was a secret for so long but I've never felt that it didn't fit him.  I think almost all people kind of grow into their name.

I wish we could wait and see these babies before finalizing names but there is going to be so much going on with their birth, I think it will be easier for everyone if we decide their names before.  I'm having a hard time with the order of the names but birth order seems the easiest even though we won't know that until they are coming out.

  • @mkemommy @Sgoldberg247 @NicknShan Thanks for the thoughtful replies... it didn't seem to bother DH at all when I mentioned it to him so I wasn't sure if i was being hypersensitive to it or if it was a valid concern. I just always loved the name and thought it was original to us so I don't want her thinking she thought of it!!

Thanks for the heads up! I usually buy this brand, but a different one was on sale last time. We go through it so fast that I'm sure I had a box that would be considered in the recall, but I would no longer have the box.

  • I'm starting to grow out of my maternity pants and shirts.  Thank goodness it is getting nicer as I can wear maxi skirts and put the band under the bump.  The best part, is peeing is so much easier!!
I love maxi dresses or dresses in general while pregnant, but my thighs rub together so bad!

Ugh I never buy these anymore because there's always a recall on them somewhere! And of course I bought them this weekend as a good out of town snack for DS.

  • So we had a new hire start today after a month of me working essentially alone. Up until last year I had worked with the same two women for 5 years and we all got along great so I'm super nervous about warming up to someone new plus sheI'm *technically* her manager and about 25 years younger than her which also makes me nervous.

Anyway. She genuinely seems nice but she is just WAY too energetic for me. Like, I was sitting in her chair setting up her computer and she was making coffee and the phone rang and she literally wind sprinted from across the office (it's not that big) and practically leaped over the desk and me to answer the phone. She also keeps calling me Kim. My name is not Kim. My name is not even close to Kim and I can't decide if I want to correct her now or wait a few weeks and make it awkward.

If awkward is what you are going for, just print and frame your signature photo and place it on your desk.

  • @lilwatz oh man. That comment made me laugh so hard.

I'll just send her an email in a few weeks with the subject "My name's not Kim" with my signature attached.
  • I don't see crumbs, but I can't believe we are nearly at the third trimester.  Mine starts on Saturday, 28 weeks.  I also have my hospital tour that day.  Remember when we all were just finding out?  Seems incredible that we are nearing the final stretch.  Sometimes I feel like the time has gone really fast....most of the time I feel like I've been pregnant for like 10 years!

Stain on my boobs and crumbs on my pants.  I'm eating lunch...so to be expected.  I swear my have lost all food to mouth coordination during pregnancy.  DH just laughs, it's become a daily thing.

So much yes. My belly has stayed clean thus far, but I did get taco sauce down my sleeve somehow.
  • Crumbs from some tater tots I was scarfing! Yep...tots.  I blame this thread.
