So I know that Mackenzie is a name that most of you on the bump dislike. Can you tell me why ? (And if you like Mackenzie please feel free to share your thoughts too!) Thanks!

Do you mean for a girl? Most people here don't like it for a girl because "Mac" means "son of" which means it is literally a boy's name. This board tends to frown on using boy names for a girl.
Firstly it's a surname, and when used as a given is masculine like all Mac- Mc-. (Son of Coinneach) and it's super trendy, along with all the other mac,Mc names.
Finally. Every single Mackenzie I've met/seen has, well, fairly dumb vapid parents. Like the "I've made bad life decisions, and continue to make bad life decisions because critical thinking is hard" kind. So, yeah there's my reason for not liking it.
It is my absolute least favorite name. It's cute when the kid is 3 but at some point they're an adult and may as well be named lollipop or sugr cube IMO.
I've known a boy named Mackenzie and a girl named Mackenzie. The boy went by NN "Mac" and it suited him. The girl went by NN "Kenzie" and she was a heavily makeup-ed, vapid, skanky, Barbie wannabee. So I have a good association with a boy and a poor one with a girl.
At this point it feels very dated to me but I mostly dislike it because it's not very attractive or feminine sounding. Plus it reminds me of the Budweiser dog, Spuds Mackenzie.
To me it's a last name. As a girl first name, it sounds trendy/trashy to me, popular with the "dance moms" crowd. I've actually known some perfectly nice girls with the name (seems popular amongst those that are now teens and early twenties) but I still have a subconscious association with that trendy/trashy vibe.
I'm bias because my DD's MN is "Makenzie". I personally think it's a pretty name and it went well with her first name (Kiera). If it's a name you truly like, go for it. No trend or strangers personal opinions should take that away from you. GL!

Masculine, totally dated on a girl and nothing attractive about it. I find Kenzie about the most forever three year old name out there. I just don't think Mackenzie screams classy it's about as opposite of it
To me, Mackenzie is like "We had nothing better and finally had to put something on the birth certificate and its kinda neutral and popular enough that it's not going to confuse anyone." Maybe it's because it's become so unisex it makes me feel that way. I've heard worse, it's just so...boring.
I don't feel that way at all about the name. I know about 3 or 4 little McKenzie's and they are all adorable. I would not use the spelling MacKenzie (to avoid Mac), it just doesn't look as nice as MaKenzie or McKenzie.

There is a second letter capitalized in names starting with Mc or Mac because it means "son of" the subsequent name. Ie, MacKenzie means "son of Kenzie", where Kenzie is a proper noun. While you could use Makenzie without a capital K, MaKenzie is not grammatically correct, and the capitalized K is totally random and unnecessary.
It is a surname that means "Son of Kensie". A name means "son" and yet gets plastered on a little girl. And this positively screams "I want to be trendy but I'm actually just a vacant follower who doesn't actually know the meaning of anything I do."
My best friend and I swore we would have daughters and name them Mackenzie. We were in 7th grade. That's what it makes me think of. Silly girls in 7th grade dreaming of naming future daughters.
It wasn't really used as a name until MacKenzie Phillips got famous. So it's a 'Miley' name that came from nowhere with one celebrity. Poor MacKenzie Phillips was on so many drugs and having an incestuous relationship with her dad. So in all addition to seeming fluffy/lacking substance, being masculine, being a surname, etc. it has such a tragic past.
And, i was thinking more about this, don't you find that there are just certain names that people choose because they're THERE? You know these people choosing this name would never have been the one to COME UP WITH mackenzie or dig it out of a trunk of forgotten baby names. The person who ressurected Violet was brilliant but then people just sort of hitched their wagon to the star.
I'm late to the party here, but I'll throw in my $.02:
--It's a last name, and I dislike the trend of using last names as first names. I think people who do this want their kid to have a "cool" name, but it's just unoriginal and therefore uncool. --I have known more female Mackenzies than male, but it IS a male name and it sounds masculine. --I think when you meet an adult Mackenzie, her parents were probably inspired to choose this name because of 1970's TV actress Mackenzie Phillips who starred in the sitcom "One Day At A Time." She later died of a drug overdose. I think it's lame to name your kid after a TV star with an unusual name. --I think parents of Mackenzies who are elementary school or younger are probably just being trendy. While Mackenzie Phillips seemed very tomboyish and tough, today I feel like people think the name Mackenzie is cutesy and girlish and it has the letter Z in it, which people seem to like. I just think it seems like the parents are trying to hard to be "different" without actually being different. That's what defines trendy names for me: it's the "different" that everyone wants to be. Yuck.

(Only because I just looked it up because I didn't know who she was). Mackenzie Phillips' real name was Laura Mackenzie Phillips.

Know what i mean?
There are scientific studies that prove this is correct! Read a piece by a socio-economist about it.

Re: Tell me why you aren't crazy about Mackenzie....
Another factor may be trendiness.

Ah yes, dated, thank you. It's the 2001 version of Tiffany.
It's my automatic, knee-jerk reaction. I feel the same way about Crystal, Brandy, Jasmine, and Heather. It's just in there with those names.
