The Names You Want Opinions On Thread

Re: The Names You Want Opinions On Thread

  • @Nerdchild I 100% agree with you. A discussion would have been fine. But it wasn't a discussion. It was "Nope. Just no." I felt like that was negating/ attacking.
But I do agree with you- discussions are fine!
You and I must have been reading a different thread, because I read those as 'Yikes, no, let me tell you all the ways that could go wrong', not 'No, your opinion/personhood is invalidated because of its incorrectness'.
  • Loading the player...
  • @Nerdchild well then I guess we read into it differently. That doesn't mean either of the ways we took
    it were invalid.

anyways, like I said. In the future I will
offer my opinion and if others disagree with it and @ me saying my opinion is wrong I will ignore it. I gave my opinion and that's all that matters
  • @mandyjulie agreed. 100%.
I will continue to not voice my opinion on other opinions that differ from mine. But I'll also keep in mind that others don't do that. Even when they @ me saying they disagree with me- I will ignore it. After all- life's too short!
Um. Not anyone's point. Every single person here gets or has gotten tagged or quoted with dissenting opinions. I do not understand why that's an issue for you.

  • @mandyjulie I guess I should clarify dissenting opinions do not bother me in a discussion. But when people @ me saying "nope. Just no." I do take offense to that and feel attacked. Especially when my opinion was directed at the person asking for opinions and not anyone else.
  • @MrsRo731 I wasn't asking for your opinion!! OP asked for all of our opinions and just because mine differed from yours you didn't have to say "nope. Just no"

  • @TattoosandLace I realize you created this thread but the OP I was referring to was not you. It was the poster asking opinions on the very names that started this "discussion". I assure you it's not just me clogging up this thread. But alas, I am done here.

  • HCRussell26  That is my niece's name! Hers is spelled Kerrington though. Everyone has ended up calling her KK. Initially, the general consensus from both sides of the family was that it was definitely unique but no one hated it or had any resentment towards it. Once she was born, no one seemed to care anymore and it fits her nicely!

I love the name Leo, I think it's awesome!!

were having an ordeal settling on the spelling of this little ones name. It's not 100% decided but it is on our short list. We are having trouble spelling it either one of two ways:
    a) Brookelyn
    b) Brooklyn
Personally I'm more prone to the first version with the E in it, esp when it's shortened to just Brooke. But my mom thinks it's weird and so does LO's dad. Pssssh. What do y'all think?
I, like most people it seems, prefer the spelling of Brooklyn. Even if it is spelled like that, you could still use the nn Brooke (with the 'e'). Nicknames aren't limited to the letters used in the full length name. Examples include Jim/Jimmy for James, Rick/Dick for Richard, Maggie for Margaret, etc.

We are currently thinking about Alice, but it seems to be growing in popularity and we were hoping for a less popular, but easy to pronounce name. Thoughts?
  • @IB113 I think Alice is lovely. I don't know many kids, but I didn't know it was a popular name...

  • @IB113 I like Ivy instead of Alice. Slightly less common (I think).

Thanks for the suggestion @ButterMyBiscuit.  I like Elise but my friend named her daughter that last year, so kind of a non-starter for us.

  • @IB113 Alice might be popular but it is pretty classic and a really nice name
  • @IB113 Alice is definitely gaining popularity, but not as rapidly as some of the others (Olivia, etc). It's a really sweet and classic name, you can't go wrong with it.

  • Whoa.....I feel like my IQ just went way down reading all of those misspelled name posts....

OP, go for Brooklyn. You can still totally use Brooke as the nickname. My cousin went with Brooklynn for her DD (who is now 6) and she regrets it because she is always having to correct people. She wishes that she would have just gone with the more popular Brooklyn spelling.

@IB113 I love Alice! It would be my frontrunner if it wasn't for the fact that my grandmother has that name and I don't want my child named after her. Even though it is getting popular, it may not be popular in your area (or it might be REALLY popular in your area. You can check the SSA name list and see where it lies overall, and where it lies when it comes to your state. Take the name Isla for example, in 2014, it was #150 on the list. In my state, is #89 for popularity. However, I am right on the border of another state, and in that state, it is #72. So between both states, it is breaking the Top 100 for my area. When it comes to Alice, between the kids that I worked at a daycare with, friends kids, family kids, and kids of my FB friends.......I only know one little girl named Alice (she is five, and named after her great-grandma).

  • @IB113 love Alice. I only know one adult with that name, no kids. Other simple names: Grace, June, May, Jane, Claire, Iris, Jenna, Joy, Mara, Cora, Paige, Uma
  • All I have to add is that if anyone fucking mentions naming their daughter Lincoln, I'm lighting everything on fire

Didn't Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell name their daughter Lincoln?

    **running for my fire extinguisher**

(For the record, I think Lincoln is a ridiculous name for a girl. Right up there with Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher naming their DD Wyatt. Yuck.)
  • @DobbysSock Yes. And I think they named their second daughter Delta. After a Delta Force joke?

  • @DobbysSock Agreed. I mean, Lincoln is no "Pilot Inspektor" but it still gets a side eye.

  • Lincoln just makes me think of the sexiness that is Andrew Lincoln and I wish I had the skill to post a super hot Andy Lincoln GIF now but I'm on my phone and can't even stay logged in for a straight five minutes.
