We are having a girl and DH and I have always been very divided on girl's names. We actually already had two full boy's names picked out for awhile, but we just don't agree on girls. We decided on Eleanor for our first because that was literally the ONLY name we both liked. This time around we seem to be more on the same page because we figured out we both like names with French origin/spelling. Also we have already decided that the middle name will be Patrice after my mom (Patricia) who passed away less than 2 years ago (her birthday was in August and I am due the 31st).
SOOO I am stuck on Vivienne Patrice and DH is stuck on Olivia Patrice. I love the name Olivia, but just can't get on board with it because it has been in the top 5 for the last few years. Imogen is also on our top 5 list, so that is probably what we will end up agreeing on. I am still fighting for Vivienne though.
@TheTamedShrew do y'all like the nicknames Vivi and Livi? I adore them both, and they're so close..maybe you could sway him to Vivienne! They're all pretty names though!

I LOVE the nicknames Vivi and Liv. I love Liv so much that he almost has me persuaded. We never did agree on a nickname for Eleanor so we call her Eleanor. I wanted to call her Nora, but it never stuck because DH wouldn't use it and I didn't want to call her something different (we didn't like Elle or Ella or Ellie). My side of the family (and some of my friends) were still calling her Nora through her first year though. Even my OB asked "so how is little Nora doing?" at my first appointment, and I had to stop and think for a second. Long story short, this time around I have to make sure to get DH to agree to the nickname as well.
We have a boy's name picked out: Julius Arlen. For a girl, we are thinking either Avalon Anastasia or Adeline Anastasia. We are definitely using Anastasia, since it's my maiden name and we've planned on incorporating it somehow for a while. I'm leaning toward Adeline for the first name.

@sunshineinmay09 ah! One of the favorite movies of my childhood! Anyway the main Character in the movie is Eglantine Price, that is where I first heard the name & I've loved it ever since.
My husband hasn't been very helpful on this topic yet, but I'm totally in love with Aurelia Rey for a girl. He likes it too, just not as in love with it as I am, but he doesn't have any name he likes better either lol.
Boy name is totally up in the air, neither of us has been able to come up with a name we love. Names we like are Luke, Ronan, Leon, Noah, Titus, and Tristan. Tristan is currently my fav...but we'll see!
My husband has always really loved the name Aurelia, but it doesn't pass the "middle school boys" test.
@TNgoldengirl we've always been team green. I usually have names that we both like on a list but usually we will have an ah-ha moment and know when the name is right. That didn't happen until our second was actually born and we were like "he's definitely a Simon" we just don't feel like we need to decide very early on bc we don't share our name choice with others and sometimes it does take us the whole time to decide. Or we thought we likes a name and then don't at the last minute. And also we have not talked about names for #3 for more than 2 minutes this pregnancy.

@linzandjer11 I am genuinely curious about those who don't have name choices until the end.. Does it take you the whole time to decide? Do you not think about it until closer to the end? This is my first time being team green, and we are nowhere close to picking a name! I feel less in a hurry, since we can't use a name until baby is born anyway.. But ideally i would like to go ahead and have the names picked. I also like the idea of choosing after they're born, but not sure I could wait..plus I'd be stressed about still disagreeing with DH.
@TNgoldengirlWe talk about it, but our goal is to have two full names for each gender before the baby is born. We're on the look out for a long time, listening, researching and watching for new names. Certain ones tend to keep popping up and they get added to the short list. We don't feel the pressure to have the exact one right away. And the names we picked last time we were so confident about because we both loved them and we had explored every aspect of them (nn, origin, popularity, etc) Everybody is different though! And I've seen a few people who were dead set on a certain name or style at 10 weeks and went with something completely different when the baby was born.
@JuliaDeeS We want earth/nature names, too. For now we have Inara Fern for a girl, and Rowan Siham for a boy. Inara was an ancient Arabic goddess of protection for the wild animals of the forest (my husband's heritage is Arabic), and Fern is my grandmother's name. Rowan is the name of a tree in Scotland and Ireland (my heritage), and Siham is my husband's dad's name. Let me know if you guys come up with any other earthy names!
@VeraMali We also love magical/literary names and I love what you're going for with Lupin James and Magnus!
@RedMar I also am a teacher, and I also lived in Spain, and wanted a Spanish sounding name because I speak Spanish.... but our families are also English-only speakers. I feel your pain. I'm thinking Carmen maybe. Certainly not Angustias. I wanted Pilar, but H said no. HAHA Thought I would give you a shout out!

Inara is so pretty! I love Fern too. DD watched "Charlotte's Web" for the first time yesterday, and I was all "ooooh, Fern! I wonder if DH would like that name."

Inara makes me think of the show Firefly. Very pretty!

@guitarra1614 I love Carmen!! Where did you live in Spain? I don't think DH would go for another Spanish name this time around. Ironically, my DS wound up with blonde hair and blue eyes and isn't so Hispanic looking lol, so I'm kind of glad we went with the English version of the name. My DH has a dark complexion, dark brown (almost black) hair and brown eyes, so I was thinking that gene would dominate. He's sure it will this time around, or else there will be questions...haha. We are having a horrible time agreeing on a name for this LO (esp if it's another boy), so we've decided to wait until the sex is revealed.
@WildMama Thanks! I'm a complete Potter head with no shame Lol! My daughter's name is Penelope which is one of the more obscure names in the books but I couldn't get my husband on board with Hermione at the time.
We are thinking Liam Michael for a boy. I've loved the name Liam since college (kind of bummed it's super popular now, but oh well) and Michael is my FIL's name and DH's middle name. I have no idea for a girl. I suggested Elizabeth (my middle name and lots of family members middle name). When we were pregnant with DS we talked about Olivia if he had been a girl and DH liked Madeline, but I'm on the fence and I don't know why. Girls names are hard!
@TNgoldengirl in my last birth group one mom didn't pick a name till the end, then they couldn't agree. I guess there is a time limit to pick one. So they were literally sitting at the table at the soc office trying to pick one. A couple weeks later she said she didn't like the name. Eventually they grew to like it but for a while her husband just referred to the kid as baby because he wasn't into the name. lol funny but not at the same time.
@TheTamedShrew- I fully support Fern for the reasoning of Charlotte's Web alone. What an awesome character to associate with a little girl - kind hearted, animal loving, tough little thing. I should admit - being a Mainer I have a special love for E.B. White (Who had a farm in Maine that inspired Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little). Now I want to read those books again!
I've officially banned myself from changing my mind about names after flip-flopping on a second boy's name about 10 times.
We've (finally) officially decided on:
BOY / BOY: Logan Avery and Aiden William
GIRL / GIRL: Logan Alexandra and Harper Elizabeth
BOY / GIRL: Logan William and Harper Elizabeth
I was hesitant to go with Aiden since it's so popular, but I asked my husband what boys' names he liked and it was the only one he came up with unprompted (he never gives input on anything) and it was actually one of the first names I considered before ruling it too popular, so I took that as a sign.
William is after my late uncle, so we're using it as a middle name if we have a boy, but which first name it goes with will depend on if it's one boy or two (since Avery doesn't work with Aiden, IMO, and I'm set on that as the other boy middle name of choice).
Alexandra is after a friend I used to be very close to. She named her cat after me and I'm potentially semi-naming a baby after her.
DH is set on naming a boy Louis Gabriel, after our grandfathers. It's taken a while, but I'm cool with it. He'd be Louie/Lou 99% of the time and I definitely like that better. As for a girl, he won't even discuss names. Lol. He's convinced it's a boy. (He "knew" DD1 was a girl and was right so we'll see). I've suggested Louisa and Josephine, which haven't been completely shut down so I'll take it as a win. As for girl middle names, I'd love to honor my grandmother, just haven't figured out which way yet. Her name was Baraba Ann, and my middle name is Ann, so it's a likely candidate. I've also liked Norah for quite some time but DH still isn't sold. We had DD's name ironed out by the time we found out she was a girl but if it's another girl I don't see us being so sure this time around. I even had a dream the other night that we had her and still hadn't decided. Ha! Let the paranoia begin!
DD1 is Cecilia Mae so clearly we favor older names. Mae was my aunt's middle name, family names are big with us, too.
Sooo, fwiw, I would pronounce Louis as "louie". If you're going for "lou-is" I'd spell it Lewis. I get that as a family name that might not be an option, but figured I'd mention the possible pronunciation issue.
I like Norah, but with Ann it kinda flows into one word, so I would personally keep looking.
Personally, I'm working on swaying DH to just go with the Louis as Louie spelling. I'd prefer it that way, especially if he'd be Louie all the time anyways.
And I'm with you on Norah Ann. It's never really been a natural flow.
We've decided on names. Amelia Ann or James Francis. Ann is for my husband's great-grandmother, James is for father-in-law, and Francis is for my grandpa.
@LeahKnits my husband's names is James Francis! He is named after both his grandpas....but he wouldn't let me name a Jr so we just used James as a middle name
