Dirty lurker here...
Foil has worked for keeping my kitties off things. I crinkle it up then flatten it back out on the surface I don't want them on.

I have also done tape, but only when I am home. So I can help get the tape off of them if needed.

Does it keep them off of the surface after the foil is removed? If, for example, I cover my kitchen table with foil will the jerk stay off of it, or will he go back to his tricks after he realizes it's been removed?

My cats stayed off of it. But we put the foil down as soon as we brought the items into the house and left it on for about a week. They never created a habit of jumping on the furniture, just jumped up a couple of times and didn't like the foil. I'm not sure how well it would work if we tried it on a surface they regularly climb on.

Random thread calls for random post, right? Totally don't feel guilty about being in PJs all day (and maybe eating a handful of Thin Mints earlier) after being up until 2:30am last night. We both fell asleep on the couch and when we woke up, could not locate our indoor/ outdoor kitty anywhere. Cut to an hour and a half search, a crying pregnant crazy lady and finally finding her up in a tree on the other side of the 8 foot wall in front of our property. Poor baby went through something because she came home limping. I swear this should not be allowed when mom is 8 months pregnant. Little monkey slept most of the day with her foot elevated on my pregnancy pillow - smart girl.

Poor kitty. I haven't had an indoor/outdoor cat since I was a kid, but I remember how stressful it was sometimes. The cats would sometimes go a week at a time without coming home, and I hated it. Mama kitty would make up for it by bringing us "presents."

As I'm sitting up wide awake with insomnia at 3:20am, does anyone else get annoyed with their DH when he complains about not having a good nights sleep, meanwhile is out like a light right next to you. I love him dearly but I so envy how "bad he sleeps at night"

So this is my first post on this thread--I'm not sure how I missed the previous FOUR THOUSAND posts. To jump into the conversation:

Sex-selection of embryos: This is a tough one for me. I am extremely disturbed by the skewed sex ratios which are currently playing out in parts of India and China due to sex-selective abortion. Having spent a few years in countries which severely limit (through law or custom) how the sexes interact I strongly believe it is bad for modern societies to keep men and women apart. Even worse, we will soon watch a generation of men in these areas enter adulthood with an inadequate number of heterosexual partners and I'm guess the results won't be positive. So while I generally don't favor society intervening into personal reproductive decisions by using the heavy hand of the state, perhaps I would support encouraging a strong social taboo against this. Also, I obviously recognize that sex-selective IVF would likely be used far less often than sex-selective abortion given the expenses and difficulties involved.

Strep B: I have no recollection of a rectal swab, but perhaps I've blocked it out.

Renters with pets: We have a couple of rental properties and accept pets to avoid limiting our population of potential renters, but it is a negative for us because the damage can definitely exceed the deposit and not all tenants will actually pay out of pocket. We recently experienced this and all you can really do is damage is the tenants' credit, which depending on their circumstances might not be a top priority. And these were tenants who had had good credit and paid their rent on time for three years.

@JadaBlue and tennants like that make it difficult for the rest of us to find a place to live! I don't like the huge pet deposit fees in my area but I definitely understand them. One more reason to buy after I know we're done moving around.

Possibly silly middle name question:
we want to use Rose as DD middle name after my husbands grandmother who passed recently. Her name would be Adalynn Rose.
I still have a grandmother that's living and so does DH.
would it hurt feelings of the grandmas that are still living if we gave baby a middle name after one grandma but not the other ?

edit: I know this belongs in the baby name board but I really only value Aprils opinions

I don't think so. You may have more kids and get to use more names, if you desire, someday. Plus, it's a beautiful middle name and in memoriam of someone close to you that you lost. Go for it and don't stress!

that's a beautiful name. I do not think anyone's feelings will be hurt and if so it probably won't be for long

@jonesl12 I don't think they would be offended, and it sounds beautiful together - plus I think there are "rules" (I'm using quotes because rules isn't the word I want to use but I can't think of what I actually want to say) against naming someone after a living person...

I picked the middle name Teresa after my mom. My MIL made a comment about it when telling someone what we had decided to name our DD and threw in that she was being named after my mom. Meanwhile the first name we choose is DH side which she forgot the mention. I personally like the middle name to honor a family member. This is our first child and DH and I plan on having at least another one if not 2 kids, God willing. Therefore we may be able to use her name for our next.

I think Rose is a beautiful name and a great way to honor your DH grandmother.

I think this depends on the family. In my family, mn are always namesakes and there's no competition or jealousy around it. My family is very chill about it - honored, but never expectant. ILs are a different story. We're giving mn Jane as a nod to his mom...it seems namesakes are a very big deal to them, as they are calling LO "baby Janie" and strongly encouraging us to name any future boy after SFIL. I don't have words to adequately describe how much I hate that idea and their little nickname.
At the end of the day, she's YOUR baby. Her name shouldn't depend on anything but what you and your husband want.

Eff insurance. Like, seriously. We have Aflac to pay us when I go into the hospital, which is awesome. But now DH is telling me this baby can't come before April 1st (and I have a EDD of the 6th, so its very feasible she will come prior to that if she wants to). Aflac won't pay us if I was pregnant when our coverage started. Our coverage started July 1st. July 1st is the date I started my last period. Um, scientifically impossible to be on my period AND be pregnant. But since we got pregnant SO CLOSE to when coverage started I guess there could be potential eye raises due to timing. I know my doctors would back me up, as I've measured spot on since the beginning, but to think that if they deny our claim, they would not pay us close to $2,000...I can't even...

@jonesl12 - I have 2 living grandmothers. Baby will be named Margaret Theresa, after my favorite grandmother and his (deceased) favorite grandmother. My other grandmother hasn't made a peep about it (or, if she has, she hasn't directed the comments towards me). I think at the end of the day having a great-granddaughter should be exciting enough that it doesn't really matter whose namesake she is; baby Maggie isn't going to play favorites.

Adalynn Rose is a beautiful name, and if you're worried about hurt feelings, you can always either not comment on the link to the other grandmas, or (if questioned), hedge and say that "Rose" is a beautiful name on its own that you would have considered anyway, and that the fact that it was your DH's grandmother's name is just an added bonus.

@jonesl12 No one has made a stink about LO's first name not being a family name or that his middle name is after DH's grandfather. Then again, his grandfather on his dad's side is the only grandfather that he has a decent relationship with, so naming LO after MIL's dad would be an odd choice. My family absolutely loved the fact that DS is named after my great-grandfather. If you like the name, go for it. There's always the potential to use someone else's name later down the road. If not you, someone else might.

Personally, I hate naming after the living--especially if the first and last names will be the same. LO's middle name is DH's pick. If we have a third boy later down the road, I'll have to deal with DH's name pick, which is Rhys Mathew. DH's uncle (with the same last name) is Reese (I told him that I was willing to compromise on the name if we went with the Welsh spelling for my Welsh uncle). DH's dad is Mathew. To me, naming after the living (for first names only) makes things EXTREMELY confusing... Is someone yelling at LO or grandma at your Christmas gathering? Which Mat are you talking about--young or old?

@fbanke42 I agree on first names. Apparently in Hispanic culture (at least Mike's), it's common to give same fn and different mn if you don't want a junior leading to him having a ton of cousins with his same fn, as well as Marios and Victors. Very confusing, and probably part of why my sister's wedding invite came addressed to Mr. & Mrs. Michael ---- family, as he's always gone by Mike to differentiate from cousins. His dad was big Mike, he was little Mike. Neither is actually named Michael. I would be so confused if they all got together!

@AmadorRose As much as I love DS's name, it's really confusing when talking to people because they always ask "big Erin or little Aaron?" since my sister is named Erin. As a joke, my family likes to call him A A Ron to differentiate.

If the poor kid wasn't a ginger, I would probably call him Ron or Ronny as a nickname.

At least LO will have a name that NO ONE else in the family has!

This skews sex ratios as well AND increases the population more, so maybe sex selection is a better option than what we currently have.

If I have only boys, I have only boys.

My parents wanted two, a boy and a girl, got two girls. They divorced, remarried each other, had another girl, had a boy finally, and two accidental girls lol. They had planned on stopping with my brother... 6 kids later...

Ok, so here's a random...

My DD is now afraid of my belly when its bare. She is all about the baby, will tell anyone who asks her where the baby is that she's in my belly, hugs my belly, kisses my belly, etc, etc. But that is only if my belly is covered. On Friday LO was being super active, so I had my shirt up watching her move while I sat in the recliner. I showed DD...and she freaked out and ran to daddy. So now any time when I'm changing and my belly is exposed she grabs my shirt to pull it down if its partially on or starts yelling "Mommy shirt, Mommy shirt!!!"

I didn't bring lunch today. DH just dropped by my class with yumminess! And I haven't had soda since the beginning of November. Maybe I should treat him in the shower more often! Hahahaha

That is amazing! Probably not a story she'll love as she grows up but definitely worth telling

I have had two charlie horses thus far; the last one was this past saturday and my calf is still sore... It's the charlie horse from hell; once the pain goes a way another wave of pain starts, and it does it for 4-6 cycles. UGH.

So my final shower was this past weekend and I just realized that there was an item purchased from my registry that I didn't receive. lol random. Maybe someone is having it shipped but I don't recall anyone who was invited that didn't come.

My Bestie's parents got me something, delivered it to their house, and didn't come to the shower. To be fair though they are both super forgetful old ladies, and I'm sure I'll be getting it eventually. (Probably with Bestie's help lol)

How do you text someone politely to see if they are coming to your shower (they didn't RSVP either way?) Or do you just assume since they didn't RSVP, it's a no? I was thinking a 'hey, it would be nice to hang out with you soon! If you can't stop by the shower this weekend, let's make other plans to hang out!' I genuinely just want to see my friend but afraid it might come off as, hey lemme get that gift, girl....

@emgee27 I think the way you phrased it is totally fine. Honestly, I think it would be fine to be even more direct along the lines of "hey, hoping to see you on Saturday/Sunday at the shower; do you know if you'll be able to make it?" It's just rude when people don't respond to invites one way or another.

Yeah... They've been off and on this entire pregnancy. With DS, it only started happening third tri. I need to just give up and try compression socks.

Oh my goodness. My mom and I found a bra store that has bras that fit me. I got two so far. I'm also floored at what sizes I had to buy.

@imrachellea DS told me this weekend that he hates my belly because he can't jump on top of me after his bath in his towel and cuddle. Homeboy weighs 50# so there's just no way. I told him it wouldn't be much longer. It actually made me sad because I know he won't want to cuddle his momma like that forever.. he's 5 going on 15. :'(

@AEG84 @yodiggity Thanks, ladies! I actually went midway thru what I wrote and what was suggested as more direct....glad I did, she never received the invite! She was on vacation and said she felt a lot of her mail went missing (there didn't seem to be a big enough pile when she got back.)
