Re: Names You Want Opinions On

  • @cait5413 I really like Rosalie, Rosa, Rose, or Rosalyn... You could also do Brenna Rose and make it a combination of the two.

I like Finley, but I can only picture it as a boys name...

  • @jskarr7 I think that Bethann Claire sounds okay but that's taking Claire back to the middle name. You could always do Claire Ann, I think that's a cute name!
  • @cait5413 are you Irish? Because I am, and my mom always had nicknames for us that didn't have anything to do with our real names - seems to be an Irish thing from the families I know. My mom used to call me Caitlin Mary (Mary is not my middle name) and she also called me Mrs. O'Sullivan (which is not my last name).
  • We're struggling with the spelling of our girl choice (which we probably won't get to use since I'm 100% convinced this is boy 3) and we can't seem to settle on a boys name, as we're running out of names we "love".

Right now we're back and forth between Emmaline Grace and Emmeline Grace.
Our boy top contenders are Tobias Asher and Alexander Lucas.

We we already have a Benjamin Caius and a Zachariah Felix.

  • @cait5413 I really like Rosalie! I first heard it on Grimm and really thought it was pretty but not cutesy.

  • @jskarr7 I know someone who named their little girl Claire Marie. What about Claire Josephine, they're both French. I always like when a short first name is paired with a long middle name and vice versa.

Yep! Irish on both sides. I'm a Caitlin, too--as my mom would say, spelled the right way ;)

Clare Ann is one of my best friends' names! She's a doctor--it's a good name for a smart and kind girl!

  • If it's a girl, we've picked out Julianne and her initials would be J.S.S.  The middle name is important to us and obviously the last name is what it is.  My only hesitation is, and it's a big one, I can definitely see us calling her Annie for short.  In fact I love the name Anne/Annie but I don't want her initials to be A.S.S.!!  So Julianne is my work around (and I do really love the name too).  No one uses initials with a nick name right?  Or is it awful to name her this?
  • Girls I love Sienna, Rose, Gabriella, Kinsley.

We are having a boy and having a hard time with names. I love Logan but too popular in my opinion.

    @Hannah0726 I love Olive too!

  • I adore Hadley Faye. I actually wanted to name the baby Hasley Noel if it was a girl but hubby is so against that name. And for Camden have you considered Camden Joshua.
  • I love Claire, but since our last name is pretty common and we wanted a slightly less popular name, we used it in the middle name slot instead. If we'd used it for her first name it would've been Claire Elizabeth.

I'm really liking Caitlin for a girl name, but I don't think it would go with DD1 name, which also ends on a 'lyn'.
  • @katesirc
Are you set on the middle name?  You could aways change it so the initials weren't that. :)

  • We reserve middle names for family names and give the kids their own first names. We are really stuggling with a boys name. The middle name will be Darrell (DH late uncles name) But we cannot agree on a first name. We already have a Wyatt Elias and a Levi Brauns. Maybe it will just be a girl and we won't need a  boy name.
  • I love Hattie, Olive, Emmett and Rosalie.

If we have a boy he will be named after my husband. The only girl name we can agree on is Viviana. My husband would like the name to be Hispanic sounding at least but I don't think he's liked most of my ideas yet.
     Juliana, Luisa, Xiomara or Oihane
I like unique old fashioned names. If you can think of any Hispanic sounding ones please share!

@Tnallen107 I personally like all your options. :) as mentioned before Hadley was on my list but SO has vetoed it.  I also know a couple Camdens and the middle name John/Jon has been used.

So... We are having twins and not finding out the sexes. For girls I think our top contenders are Claire and Caroline if we have two girls and even if we had just one, I think it would be one of those two. Middle names would be after each of our mothers. Others on the list are Evelyn (although getting to popular imo), Callie, Mila. I do prefer more of the classic girl names.

Having a a much tougher time with boys. I personally like:
    Charlie
    Henry
    Beckett
    Bennett

SO has vetoed all of those for various reasons. To get an idea of what he likes, he has said:
    Cale
    Clay
    Colt
    Barrett
    Lincoln

i have vetoed Cale (can't stand it and I think of lettuce plus we already have a Cole in the family and it's too close) and Colt. I'm not a huge fan of Clay either.  I do however like Barrett and Lincoln (somewhat). If we have two boys our fathers names would be used for middle names.

Sorry for the long post, but does anyone else have any suggestions? Keep in mind they are twins. Open to boy/girl suggestions and definitely boy/boy suggestions. We are not stuck on the letter C, just so happened we liked those names. Last name starts with a K and is one syllable. :)

Xiomara is a cool one--never heard that one before! How do you pronounce Oihane?

Hmmm...Hispanic sounding...Gabriella (maybe too popular?), Marcella, Rosario, Maria, Adela

  • We're having a tough time with names. A girl will have MN Helene to honor my mom. First name is in the air, but we like something Gwen-related (Gwenyth, Gwendolyn, etc.). Boy name ideas include Ciaran, Ronan, Arthur...but nothing has really jumped out at us. MN would probably be a family name.
  • @cait5413Oh-ah-neh is the best way I can explain it. I like marcella!
  • @skelly70 we're naming our boy Ronan!
  • For girl names, our current favorite name is Sadie, but we also like Madeleine and Hadley. Boy names have been a LOT tougher. DH like Charlie, but I don't. We both sort of like Harrison (but NOT Harry). I love Brody, but DH is not on board.

  • @tmk0325  I'm actually more set on the middle names - it will either be my maiden name (the S, which makes it potentially ASS) or my mom's maiden name (Coulter).  If I go with Coulter then you have Julianne Coulter.  I don't need Anne Coulter in my kid's name!

I think we may just need to start from the drawing board on the first name...
  • @katesirc my sisters current initials are A.S.S. Angela Suzanne. She married thus giving her the S last name. Yikes. I think Julianne is pretty.

We we had a small list for a boy but this one is a girl so I guess we will never use these.

    Zander, Kellen and Kayden.

Most people don't use nicknames as initials, so I wouldn't worry about it too much if you really like it. Anything monogrammed would be JSS, and how many people will know her middle name anyway?

Here's our current boy name dilemma. We both like the name Jack. We're pretty much agreed that if the baby is a boy he'll be Jack. However, I would want his real name to be John, as Jack is a nickname for John. Also, I have some Johns in my family, including my brother, so it would be nice to honor them in that way. Many famous Jacks are actually Johns, like John F. Kennedy.

DH is dragging his feet on the John thing. He just wants the kid's given name to be Jack. He thinks he'll spend his whole life correcting people. I have a longer full name, but have gone by a diminutive of it my entire life, and it's not a problem! Whereas DH's all of his siblings have just one name with no nicknames/diminutives. I think that's why this is a foreign concept to him. I'm trying to convince him that this John/Jack thing will not be an issue -- just ask any William/Bill, Catherine/Kate, Anthony/Tony, etc!

Anyone else having formal name vs. diminutive issues?
My 18-year-old brother's given name is Jack. He's only had one or two people in his entire life assume/ask if his given name was John. We live in Chicago, FWIW.
  • DDs name is Riley Rae and her MN is from my grandpa (who's MN was Ray). For this one if it's a girl the name will come more from DHS side with Claire (his grandmother's fn) and then we haven't decided on a middle name. If it's a boy were thinking Anderson (my maiden name) and call him Andy. We haven't decided on a MN for a boy either. I guess we'll figure it out when we find out what we are having. (My parents joke that the boys name should be Anderson Xavier which would be a mouthful since out last name is long too).
  • @Abcd7890 I love the name Josephine. It's old fashioned but DHs argument for not liking it was that it sounds too Hispanic!!! It'll be perfect for you!

I think that could be cute. I've known a few girls named Ryan.
  • @ThisisNumber3 -- I like it. I feel like I've come across that once or twice for girls on the big wide web. And I wouldn't worry about the "meaning". I've wanted Mara for a little girl for a really long time, and the only thing that made me hesitate is that it's "meaning" is bitter. Eff that. I'll name my kids what I want. For me, it's the name of a bad ass Jedi in the (nerd alert!) Star Wars books.

All of our options have to have some kind of nerd reference and be easily pronounceable in Spanish. (We live in Central America most of the time.) I have a pile of nerd names for girls, and then when it comes to boys, I'm like "meh." So we have a couple, and the husband has helped me come up with a few more, but the only reason I even have a list was I was realizing how short six months is, and if I don't at least have a list, I'm going to go into labor yelling at my husband, "WHAT ARE WE GOING TO NAME THIS CHILD?"

  • @ReadyForaB I like Josephine too! My husband is so picky though I'm guessing he'll turn it down. I just got my heart set on Eloisa the other night and he said no way because it was some mean girl in middle schools name. He said maybe to Elvira though, he confuses me!
  • @ThisisNumber3 I really like Ryan for a girl too! Go for it!
