Hello ladies! @tmk0325 and I were lurking on the July 2016 board and noticed they had created a board for names and spelling suggestions.
We liked it, and thought some of you might be able to give good insight on names and spelling ideas. Especially since middle names are hard
DH and I are trying to decide between the following for the girl:
Hattie Faye Hallie Faye Hadley Faye
For the Boy we really like Camden. But the middle name isn't my friend. Any ideas ladies?
Can't wait to hear what names you are thinking of!
Of the three, I think Hadley is my favorite, with Hallie coming in second. Those are all cute! Can you steal a middle name from a family member? We're naming our son Isaac Tyler. Tyler is my DH's middle name, so that was easy!
Me: 25 DH: 28
Hubby's little boy - my wonderful step-son - born 5/23/10
BFP#1: 06/2010...my beautiful baby girl born 3/7/2011
BFP #2: 10/24/15...mc on 10/31/15
BFP #3: 11/27/15. EDD 8/6/16

@1faceinacrowd Faye is my DH's grandmother's middle name. All of the men's middle names don't really go with Camden. I was kindof thinking Lane, but I can't really decide.
Isaac Tyler is adorable!

@Tnallen107 I personally like all your options. as mentioned before Hadley was on my list but SO has vetoed it. I also know a couple Camdens and the middle name John/Jon has been used.
So... We are having twins and not finding out the sexes. For girls I think our top contenders are Claire and Caroline if we have two girls and even if we had just one, I think it would be one of those two. Middle names would be after each of our mothers. Others on the list are Evelyn (although getting to popular imo), Callie, Mila. I do prefer more of the classic girl names.
Having a a much tougher time with boys. I personally like: Charlie Henry Beckett Bennett
SO has vetoed all of those for various reasons. To get an idea of what he likes, he has said: Cale Clay Colt Barrett Lincoln
i have vetoed Cale (can't stand it and I think of lettuce plus we already have a Cole in the family and it's too close) and Colt. I'm not a huge fan of Clay either. I do however like Barrett and Lincoln (somewhat). If we have two boys our fathers names would be used for middle names.
Sorry for the long post, but does anyone else have any suggestions? Keep in mind they are twins. Open to boy/girl suggestions and definitely boy/boy suggestions. We are not stuck on the letter C, just so happened we liked those names. Last name starts with a K and is one syllable.
I like Hattie Faye the best, but I'm partial to old school names. I live on Camden Road, lol, so I feel like Camden Lane is a bit too address-y! Maybe Camden Theodore or Camden Arthur? Camden Lucas, Camden Liam, and Camden Oliver all sound nice too.
A girl I went to high school with just had a son and named him Camden Lee. It's cute but I also think lee is kind of a go to middle name for boys when nothing else goes.
We have had our boy name picked out since we were pregnant with DD. We haven't even discussed girl names really. The middle name if it's a girl will be Marie after my grandmother who passed away last June. Our boy name is Emmett David. David is after both of our grandfathers. DHs grandfather passed away back in 2012 and mine passed away last May. I'm not quite sure how we will spell Emmett though.
We are partially set on names and want to have it locked down when we find out sex. Our current options are Boys- Edison James Edison Clark Girls- Maisie/Maisy Christine Maisie Abigail
What are your thoughts on spelling? I love Edison James but apparently that's the name of a terrible prime minister in the carribean
Any suggestions on middle names, or thoughts on our first name picks?
@tmk0325 I like classic, somewhat unusual names too! My daughter is Cecily, if you are looking for another girl option. If this one is a girl, we will likely name her Iris. I think Cecily and Iris sound nice together..
For boys, our list is Lochlan, Felix, Theodore, Solomon, Malcolm, Campbell, Oscar, Irving and Arthur.

Do you live in the Carribbean? If not, no one will likely make the connection, especially as he gets older, unless the guy is so terrible he's like Hitler or something.
I like Maisie over Maisy for some reason. And I think Maisie Christine has a nice ring to it!

We are having a boy and have settled on either Cam or Cass--we are having a hard time picking the middle name though (needs to start with a C as well) And ideas?
We have chosen Elliana Leeyami which is dh and my middle name combined and for a boy was thinking Ezra Ethan Ezekiel we aren't set on one for boy either and you all are choosing some cute names as well ☺
Here's our current boy name dilemma. We both like the name Jack. We're pretty much agreed that if the baby is a boy he'll be Jack. However, I would want his real name to be John, as Jack is a nickname for John. Also, I have some Johns in my family, including my brother, so it would be nice to honor them in that way. Many famous Jacks are actually Johns, like John F. Kennedy.
DH is dragging his feet on the John thing. He just wants the kid's given name to be Jack. He thinks he'll spend his whole life correcting people. I have a longer full name, but have gone by a diminutive of it my entire life, and it's not a problem! Whereas DH's all of his siblings have just one name with no nicknames/diminutives. I think that's why this is a foreign concept to him. I'm trying to convince him that this John/Jack thing will not be an issue -- just ask any William/Bill, Catherine/Kate, Anthony/Tony, etc!
Anyone else having formal name vs. diminutive issues?
acciobaby123 My maiden name is Smith, and my mom was insistent when I was little that I be called by my full first name rather than Kate/Cait because Kate Smith was a singer (I think?) and she was overweight and my mom didn't want me associated with that. The singer died when I was 3 or something and no one in my life (as far as I know) ever made the association. I wouldn't even know who she is if my mom hadn't had the hangup.
Married May 2014 DD born August 2016 Baby #2 due December 2017
@Snaps816 I also have always loved the name John with the nickname Jack. My Uncle Jack is a John. If we didn't already have several Johns/Jacks in our family, I would have loved this name for my son. I'm also a fan of having a more formal full name and then a nick name - almost everyone in my family is like this: Daniel/Dan, Jacob/Jake, Andrew/Andy, etc.
When we had our first son, I really loved the name Christopher/Chris. My husband agreed with Chris but liked Christian better. We agreed on Christian but have since found that the nickname Chris does not seem as natural. So the nickname didn't stick with our first.
We're team green. Our girl list is the same as it was last time, but we haven't been able to narrow it down at all. My grandmother's name was Jane and we will definitely be using that as a middle name.
Genevieve Jane - My Great-Grandmother's name was Genevieve and she went by Genny. I've always loved the name. I'm aware of the French pronunciation (which is very pretty) but wouldn't be using it. Jennifer Jane - Again, we like Jenny. Kathleen Jane - "Kate"
We're having a much harder time with boy names this time around. We considered Patrick and Andrew last time, but neither of us would put them on the list now. I currently really like Isaac - MN Paul or Robert - but not sure DH is sold.
@snaps816 Something to keep in mind too - if you name him "John" he may decide to use it someday.
My parents named my brother Edward (he's a sixth or something.) My grandpa goes by "Red," My dad by "Ed" so my parents called him "Ted." (Teddy when he was really little)
When he was about 8, he decided he was "Ed." Now all of his friends know him as "Ed" and "Ted" is a family / pet name. As long as you see that "Jack" may become the name he uses only with his family / closest friends, and are okay with that, that's fine. My brother was grateful he had a more "grownup" name to shift to (at the ripe old age of 8) but my parents were a little miffed (and my dad a little annoyed because it creates confusion now!) when he stopped using the name they *wanted* him to go by.
@Allisun85 that's not a bad option, however I have a name association with Clayton that leaves me kind of meh! Doesn't it suck when you know someone with a name and it totally ruins the name for you?!
@Snaps816 , just personal opinion but I like just straight up Jack. If you think that's what you are going to call him, it would be less confusing to call him that. I know a few people that have names like that Jason/Jake, Henry/Hank, etc and always wonder why even give the child that name if you don't plan on calling him that.
@jacmkelley isn't Peter Brooks a famous person? I have no idea why I think that but it sounds so familiar! I really like the name Brooks in general but wouldn't use it because a friend just named her baby that.
@tinkerbell11210 I like mila, I've also seen it spelled meighla if you were into the non traditional spelling. Piper is becoming a popular name with girls in this past year, I think it's cute!
@Lynnlove28 we are considering Emmett. I have seen it spelled Emmitt, but I don't like it (even spell check gave it a red underline, lol). What other spellings are you considering?
@Hannah0726I love Olive! Olivia is too popular for my taste and I think Olive is a fresh alternative. DH vetoed it (but we're having another boy anyway, so oh well!)
@bananers I was looking through a baby book that had every spelling for Emmett you could think of(emet, emit, emmit). I don't see the name very often so I wasn't sure the traditional spelling. I'm not a fan of names that are spelled crazy, ex. Leigha instead of Leah. I just think all the extra letters are unnecessary. Lol
@Hannah0726 I like Olivia and olive, I like olive more because it's kind of an original name nowadays.
@Snaps816 I'm with you. I think, as another poster mentioned, naming him John gives him flexibility as he gets older if he wants a more "serious" name (though I don't think Jack is a kiddie name, either, so he'd probably just stick with it). I like names that can be nick-named, personally, but my family is also big nick-namers. My mom used to call me Elsa as a pet name--maybe because my middle name is Elizabeth? She also used to call my brother Sean Peter. Sean is his name, but his middle name is Ryan. What can I say, we're weird.
Additionally, maybe not with Jack so much (though some people may assume it's short for Jackson, with that being such a popular name these days), some people will assume you named him the non-nickname anyway. For men named Bill, the assumption is usually that their name is William, for Ed, Edward is assumed (though it could be Edgar or Edwin). I just heard of someone complaining the other day--I think his legal name is Matt, so people assume he's Matthew and some people call him Matthew, even though his name is really just Matt. So, even if you named him Jack, people might assume he's John or Johnathan, or Jackson.
Married May 2014 DD born August 2016 Baby #2 due December 2017
If we have a boy, he'll have the same name as DH. Dh is the 4th so baby will be the 5th. I really don't love naming babies the same name as their parents, but I agreed under the stipulation that the baby goes by his middle name or a nickname so it still feels like he has his own name. Right now we're considering the nickname Quint (for 5, since he'll be the 5th).
Since DH picked the boys name, I supposedly get free reign on the girl's name, but I don't really want to pick a name DH hates. I liked Finley, but he doesn't, so I have a bunch of other options I'm considering. I've always liked the name Brenna (possible middle name: Clare), but I think it only works if she has dark hair. I also had a dream we had a girl and named her Rose, so now I am considering Rose or Rosalie, possibly with the middle name Elizabeth (both my grandmothers were Elizabeths--one was Betty and one was Liz). DH's grandmother died recently, so he did mention using her name as a middle name, but her name was Delores (which I don't like at all), and since he's already got the boy's name locked up with a family name from his side, I think I'm vetoing that.

Ouh I love this thread.
We have a 9 mo DS who is named Nolan James (Nolan was my maiden name, and James is a family name).
This time of the baby is a girl, we will name her Sawyer Lillian (that's what Nolan's name would have been if he was a girl).
For a boy, we are stuck. We both love the name Silas but can't decide on a middle name. We are thinking either Silas Michael or Silas Craig (after family members). I also haven't told DH that I'm not 110% sold on Silas to begin with. We are in Canada and I seem to gravitate to southern names. Any suggestions?
The only name DH and I can agree on is "Claire". We both originally said that for a middle name and the ideas so far are: Eva Claire (the first one we agreed on) Vada Claire Everly Claire (he only recently decided he likes this) My original/pre-preg pick that he "can't connect with" is Maggie Ellis... maybe next time...
However, now he has decided he likes Claire as a first name, which I do too, but I can't think of any middle names that go well with it! Any ideas? Thoughts on the original ideas?
He also likes Claire without an 'e' but I like the 'e'...
@jskarr7 DH and I did that with our DD we had a name picked for the middle name, couldn't agree on a first name, so we used the name we picked for the middle name and used a family name for the middle name. I like Claire Elizabeth, but it may not flow with your last name. I like the say the entire name to see if it all flows.
@Lynnlove28 Do you think BethAnn or AnnaBeth (as one name) goes with Claire? Or is it too much? I ask because both are family names so if they were combined...? idk Our last name is one syllable...
@jskarr7 Claire is my top choice too, I personally don't think it looks right without the E. Do you like Clara too? That could give you some more options. I really kind of like Vada, it is a name you don't hear very often! Middle names could be Claire Anne, Claire Ellis (since you liked this previously)... Do you have any family names you want to use?
We we are using Claire or maybe Clara because SO grandmas middle name was Clara..
Re: Names You Want Opinions On
I love Hadley Faye!
We are having another girl. Our daughter is Caroline. I chose that name.My DH believes that he gets to choose this baby's name.
He loves Dorothy Mae - It is actually a family name on both sides. I love the name too but not sure I can commit. I like the nickname Dorrie
Can you steal a middle name from a family member? We're naming our son Isaac Tyler. Tyler is my DH's middle name, so that was easy!
Isaac Tyler is adorable!
