Re: Wednesday Check-In

  • Thought of a question! What toys (if any?) are you putting on your registry for your baby?? I am at a complete loss other than a play mat... advice appreciated!!

  • @MeganF08 I agree about getting all ready/makeup and hair done nicely for work. I also admire women who spend the time on it. I just don't care enough and there are other things I want to do (eat a leisurely breakfast, take my dogs on an extra long walk, watch Married with Children, lay in bed...)

  • @mkemommy totally a symptom. H said I look like a tortoise trying to roll over in bed. He's great.
  • @MsBeachNJ We added a few toys that can attach to the stroller/car seat...& a few other more sensory things that looked like fun. H went a little crazy in the toy section at BRU, lol.

I haven't put any toys or books yet. I kind of figured people who weren't going to buy off my registry were probably going to go for items like that or clothes. So I was thinking of just bypassing toys all together on the registry.

I totally forgot about a play mat though. I'll have to throw one of those on there...

  • I did a play mat and very few items since I figured people like to get kids toys. Toys that play annoying tunes might magically disappear...

TOY SUGGESTIONS: Lamaze pond symphony motion gym (read- fancy play mat with musical mobile).  It was worth every penny when my daughter was a baby.  She spent so many happy hours on it!  It's the one thing that stands out for me as an amazing baby toy.

Shoot- the mat mentioned above was discontinued (which I should have seen in the link I originally posted!  Duh!  Doing too many things at once).  That's terrible- I hope ours is still functional for Baby #2.
  • Y'all, I did not know there was such a thing as the gray hair trend.  Where have I been?

Don't worry...it just means you live somewhere awesome where people don't try too hard  B)
  • How far along are you? 25+3

    Rant/Rave/Symptoms:
Rant: this facking heartburn!!! It needs to stop! There's only so many times I'm willing to get up and take tums at night.
Rave: I am almost done with the 3rd skating dress I'm making for next weekends competition!! It's a Little Mermaid theme and the little girl LOVES it!! I'll post pictures in the crafty thread of all 3 once they're done and all sparkly :)
    Symptoms: heartburn and leaky boobs....

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
Her nursery is almost done, but we need to lower the crib mattress one peg. DH cleaned out his crap from her closet, so now I can organize (or start to) her things that my mom, mil and my sister have all purchased. Signed up for target cartwheel, and Dreft baby detergent is on there in case anyone else is using it.

    Questions?
Who else has super bad heartburn and what the hell are you guys taking for it that doesn't require multiple tablets?!?

GTKY: What's one thing you think is completely overrated?
french macarons. Like seriously. The mall where the rink is that I teach at has a "lette" macaron stand, and sure, while they're delicious, I can't justify spending $2+ a PIECE!!! I make them at home too, but they're time consuming, finicky little facks that even one too many folds of the batter can make or break your cookies. Grr.

  • @catherinekate I like the poutine at Utopia- and actually I had amazing vegan Poutine at Fresh recently... but yeah, we used to get it at a truck stop near the Ontario/Quebec border when I was a kid and that was WAY better than anything I've had since.

We added a few classic books (goodnight moon, etc), things that attach to the stroller, an exersaucer that later converts to a play table for when baby can stand, and some things that play noises and music when buttons are pushed.

How far along are you? 25 Weeks today!

Rant/Rave/Symptoms: Rant: I went to dentist this morning to get two fillings but only ended up getting one because the bottom of my mouth would not get numb. So my dentist told me I might need a root canal on that tooth a long with two crowns. On top of that I got a splitting headache from laying on my back even with wedging something under my back and I really don't want to get all this dental work done while I am pregnant. Rave: After the dentist I was so stressed I gave into my craving for Panda Express, it was amazing!

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
Not much, my husband is supposed to get out of the military two days after the baby is due so we are waiting to see what he decides to do after to set up nursery etc.

    Questions?
Has anyone gotten a root canal during pregnancy? How was it? How long does it take?

GTKY: What's one thing you think is completely overrated? football.

Edited because it kept only posting half of my post...

  • I thought of another toy suggestion (since my last one was an utter fail): Jolly Jumper.  I can't wait to see another of my kiddos bouncing in my kitchen doorway.

I LOVE that Jolly Jumper!!! So cute how much my son was into it- he would jump like crazy and then even start to nod off in the jumper- it wore him out!
  • I'm adding to my overrated listed based off a lunch conversation today:

Baths!  Like, how long am I supposed to sit there in my own dirt? It doesn't relax me, even with wine. And eating food in the bathroom is not sanitary, in my opinion.  An ex once tried to surprise me at home with a drawn bath/candles and music on just for me.  I didn't know who to react or how long I was supposed to sit there.
I just much prefer showers.  Those are relaxing.
Hot tubs and baths aren't the same either.  I can sit in a hot tub, but not a bath.  I know, it makes no sense. Obviously, my lunch table conversations are VERY riveting.
  • @KOR121 NO NO NO I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!! I don't understand the bath allure. I feel like the water starts getting cold immediately. H LOVES taking couples baths and I'm like, NOPE. Not for me. Yay for you agreeing!!

Amen!! We aren't totally alone :)

    Rant/Rave/Symptoms:
Insomnia. Feel like the walking dead. Also work sucks lately. Rave is that it's Wednesday which is halfway to the weekend. And it's supposed to be in the 50s on Saturday!

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
Picking up small things at the store. Finger nail clippers, burp clothes, ect.

    Questions?

GTKY: What's one thing you think is completely overrated?
    Cheesecake.
And any award show. I hate award shows.
Award shows, YES! But CHEESECAKE!?!? CHEESECAKE!?!?!?!?!

@MsBeachNJ - totally with you about Adele.  If I hear "hello" one more time, I may lose it.
@Sgoldberg247 - oh my goodness, that quilt.  It is incredible!
@SMLmom - I had an eye doc appointment on Monday, and suddenly have an astigmatism.  She said not to worry about it, that it was probably from the pregnancy.  Seriously, pregnancy is weird.
@MeganF08 - what supplement do you take, if you don't mind me asking?
@shannonrnbsn - I took a two month break from Facebook, and it was wonderful!  People are so glued to FB now that it's unsettling.
@Kballew10 - the news about your friend's loss broke my heart.  Appreciating our LO a little bit more this morning, too.
@annaf2011 - I used to hate dark chocolate too, and then my husband found the brand *Greens&Black* and it is DELICIOUS.  And super healthy for you.  You should try it!
@chelseay416 - getting husbands to see any kind of medical professional seriously deserves a medal.

    How far along are you?

    Rant/Rave/Symptoms:
Rant: Still sick.  Still crabby about it.
Rave: I woke up early and did the dishes this morning, which means I don't have to do it tonight!  Woo!
    Symptoms: Headaches.  All day.  Erryday.

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
Feeding her lots and lots of yummy food.  I might eat lunch early...

    Questions?

GTKY: What's one thing you think is completely overrated?
Bridal showers.  You're going to get gifts at the wedding, so why do you need another "look at me" party just for gifts?  Note: I may just be pissy about it because I'm in a wedding this April that I want nothing to do with.
Showers, bachelorette parties, when will it stop? ;)

I'm not even answering the ?s, but I have to say I agree with so many of you on the overrated stuff: purses/wallets, awards shows, cheesecake (have never liked it), the gray hair thing (whyyyy???).....but baths are amazeballs.
  • @dennyandlee I'm glad someone else doesn't get the Trump thing either!

@crdo Good to know about the Ameda! I thought it was an  open system, so I'll have to consider it.

@huskerfanz Thanks for the input in RLP and the Spectra! I'm seeing my ob on Monday, so I'll follow up with her then. I hope your contractions/BH go away soon!

Rant/Rave/Symptoms: back pain from this growing tummy.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Since I can't do the nursery yet just preparing for next steps with the house buying process.

Questions?  What was is thing from your registry you can't wait to try ?

GTKY: What's one thing you think is completely overrated?
    soccer lol

FYI I know topical stuff isn't proven to prevent stretch marks but I know it helps with the itching. Who loves the smell of bio oil. I just got it from Amazon and I find myself smelling my tummy lol. Awkward !!!!
  • @MsBeachNJ here are a few I added: kind of random but had solid reviews on amazon lol
Munchkin Float and Play Bubbles Bath Toy, 4 CountNuby Bathtime Fun Bath Toys, Octopus Hoopla, Purple
