We might have finally settled on a name: Ada Jae. DH's middle name is Jay; I'm Korean-American so we thought using the Korean spelling, Jae, (unisex, meaning 'respect') would be lovely. Our last name is quite fussy so we're leaning toward short and simple for first and middle.
I know kids will tease each other for all kinds of things but are we choosing low hanging fruit by naming her Ada? DH and I were both chubby kids (and chubby adults!) so, while I hope this little one doesn't have to deal with fat shaming, if she does, will people say "Ada horse, Ada house, Ada hippo, etc.?" I still love Ada but I just want to be sure I'm not missing something terribly obvious. If no one else automatically thinks of "ate a..." I will stop worrying!
P.S. @ashleighhughes, there's a name column on the master due date list.
@randypluskate are you planning on pronouncing it like Atta? Or Ay-duh? Do you think that if your last name is fussy, people might get the first and last name pronounced wrong? We have a short last name, but it is always pronounced incorrectly. So we had to scratch anything off the list, where people might pronounce it wrong, if it has multiple ways of pronouncing it, or any of that stuff. That way, they will at least get the first name right, even if they totally butcher the last name, and he/she wont have to correct them on both the first name, and the last name, and the spelling.
First, when someone posts that they have a unique name but don't say it I always really want to ask. But stranger-danger and all so I don't (could have saved this for FFFC).
Second, opinions on Connor Lawrence? Our last name starts with M and is 3 syllables. Connor Is just a name we like, Lawrence is my dads middle name and DHs uncle. Super bonus points for hitting both families since we are likely one and done. We both like this name, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something.
I can't name this kid. Let's hope the 15 week elective ultrasound was wrong and we actually have a girl, not because I want a girl more or anything but because a girl has a name and a boy doesn't. I think it might come down to delivery before we decide on this boy name!!
@megstervt I love Connor! It is our second choice boys name if we randomly decide we don't like Duncan anymore (or I suppose my grandpa because we are naming our son after him). Connor Lawrence sounds great to me

I approve of Lawrence, we're going with the English spelling Laurence and hitting my dad's middle name, my gramps first name and my moms first name is Laurie. I feel I'm done now with my side all at once.

@elenabrent my first post on this thread was for opinions. However my second post on this thread was to update and say "we have an official name!" .. After many commenters saying they disapproved of the spelling of my official choice- my 3rd post on this thread was to say well that's the name I chose and I happen to love it (considering its MY child that I'm naming).. Then I get told that this thread is for opinions and that they weren't sure what I expected. Well I'll tell you what I expected. I expected opinions first and then once I chose my child's name I expected congrats! I didn't expect so many negative posts on the choice of name for my child. What's ruining the supportiveness of this community is not me getting my feelings hurt, it's people thinking they have the right to bash me for getting my feelings hurt. I would never tell an excited soon to be mom that I didn't like her name choice, or that she should go elsewhere if she didn't want people not to like it.
@ButterMyBiscuit I'm sorry you don't think I'm cool. But I don't think it's cool to come to a place where you should be supported and encouraged and instead get put down and be told "sorry I don't know what else you expected".
You you listed other spellings as well, so it seemed like you still wanted opinions in the Names You Want Opinions On Thread. Good gravy.
Ella Grace ... Too simple? I'm in love with it, my husband won't 100% commit... He continues to say that he wants to keep his options open but gives no suggestions.
Girl names we've picked out so far is as follows: Brooklyn Grace Olivia Grace (we really like Grace as a middle name) Brielle __________. Carsyn Elizabeth
Boys names is a much shorter list.. William (Liam) Noah Landon __________. Ethan __________.
I still don't know what we're having but will find out next sunday and one of these lists will be tossed out the window.
I love William/Liam. My dad was William (though no one called him that or any variant) and I would love to have a son with that name, but DH vetoed Liam hard. I think it pairs okay with Noah.
@oneliloaktree13 you laugh but you realize I have to hide those names, even jokingly, from my husband. Because he'd think I was serious. And then I'd end up with a Grayson Deception and a Jaxon Bumblebee

William is a family name on LO's dads side. Both his father and grandfather were Williams. I told him I could get on board with it, even though it's not necessarily my FAVORITE, and only if we call him Liam, bc I like that name a lot! I like it with Noah.. he likes it with Edward (as that's his father and grandfathers entire name) and I told him yesterday there's no way. We can have a little variance.
@hallgire out of the girl names the first thing I thought was Elizabeth Grace and how I'd call her Betty for short but I love Mad Men so I just have a soft spot for Betty.
My son's name is going to be Optimus prime and I don't give a flying fish what you all think.
And that's how you let everyone know you don't want opinions.
When my husband told his coworkers today it was a boy his boss suggested Optimus Prime. Will it be weird if our sons have the same name, @oneliloaktree13?
My super unique name was found in the soap opera section of the TV guide after my mom gave birth. It can totally be a game time decision!
DH and I both have unique names and I'm so sick of people asking how to spell it. So our baby will be Maggie or Jake...easy peasy!
@sboston06 MAGGIE! I love love love Maggie. DH doesn't like it (what else is new) but I think it's the cutest. I have an Auntie Maggie (Margaret) who is really special to me, and I used to nanny a little girl Maggie (Margaret) who was just the cutest, most spunky, spirited little girl ever. I have only great associations with that name.

@randypluskate I couldn't figure out what you were worried about until your last line when you clarified "ate a..." so in my opinion you're safe!

I love Olivia Grace, so beautiful! I would consider Olivia (I love the nickname Liv) but I have a nephew Oliver and they're too close for me.
William (Liam) is on my long list, and I like Landon and Ethan (but DH vetoed as usual)

I feel the same way, the nickname Liv is so sweet!!! I like Brooklyn or Brooke over Olivia. But either are lovely! He ended up vetoing my Carsyn to we had to toss his Adalyn as well. Meh. And right now he's really on the name Madison - which is my cousins name. And I feel that name is incredibly common at the moment and don't want to use it.

I agree with you! Middle name can be different and you can have a little more room with the middle name. For us, I picked DD's first name and he chose middle name. This time around he wants first name and I'm fighting for more say in middle name then.
My husband and I have decided on D@isy Leigh (pronounced Lee ), initials DLA, same as my husband's. Is it weird that I want him to wait to tell his family? Is it weird that his mom wants to monogram stuff?

Actually D@isy or Daisy?
I am pretty sure she put the @ there so it wouldn't be searchable, instead of putting a period in the middle of it.

It's not weird. We don't tell previous to birth for a couple of reasons, one being that we don't want anyone's opinion to sway us on the name that we like. Some people wont get it into their head that it is already picked out, and will still try and offer up different suggestions or say negative things about the name you picked. The other, is because we don't want a ton of monogramed stuff...we like to pass things onto the next kid without having a name plastered on it, and even if we did like monogramed stuff, it can be done after baby is born. And the last reason is because we want to be able to change the name if need be. If someone we know, that we aren't a fan of, ends up using the name...we would want to change it. Or if baby looks nothing like the name we picked out, we would change it. My old boss had the name Isabelle Fl.ora picked out for her whole pregnancy. They got monogrammed stuff. Low and behold, baby came out and the thought "Whoa....she looks nothing like an Isabelle Fl.ora! That name doesn't even fit her...." They ended up naming her Piper Le.igh. That has actually happened to a couple of people that I know....they have a name picked out for 20+ weeks, and then end up changing the name in the hospital.
We love Carrington but now my mother has expressed her opinion on the name (she doesn't like it) and it is clouding my judgment. We also like Ella Rose, Eleanor nn Ellie, Ally, Camille and Veda. Not really into trendy names. Any other suggestions?
Finally settled on both names. I'm a little iffy on middle names, but DH is pretty adamant. And I can't think of a girl name that starts with "Dan" besides the two he floated, so it's settled. Now to finish any OTHER baby related task...

If Carrington is the one that you like, use it. Your mom has had her chance to name her own children, now it is your turn. And that is coming from someone who mentioned her husbands #1 pick for our first daughter (to her mom) and her mom's reaction will forever be burned into her memory. Guess what, my mom got over it after a few days, and now four years later, it is no big deal. It did make me second guess the name, and stress about it even more, but then I was more mad at myself for opening my big mouth about what the name was.....because my husband and I already liked the name, and then I had someone (who had no part in making this baby) swaying how I should feel about the name.
This time around, we have said nothing about the names we are even remotely thinking about....because the only people that have to love the name, are my husband and I.
It really is SO easy to be swayed by other people's opinions on names. I was so in love with the name Marcelino until I mentioned it to my family & they just had nothing positive to say & it bothered me so much I don't want to use that name anymore. I have some new names up in the air (in my head) and they're staying there from now on!

I like Veda best, especially if you are going for an uncommonly used name. Honestly, Carrington is such an outlier compared to your other options, I was expecting much less classic choices. Other uncommon names you might like.
