TTC After a Loss

TTCAL check-in 2/22

Re: TTCAL check-in 2/22

  • I'm sorry for picking a question that wasn't a good fit you guys. I'm trying my best to be optimistic because I have been so down for so long, but it's unfair to project that outward. Sorry if this brought anyone down :(

    2. Status (WTO, TWW, Benched, etc.)
WTO, cycle 2 after second loss (21 months TTC total)

    3. Rants/raves
We are renting a cabin for the weekend - I'm so looking forward to some down time with DH! And if I ovulate like I did before loss, it should also be my FW.

    4. GTKY: what holiday(s) are you most looking forward to celebrating with your kid(s)? Why?
I'm really looking forward to Christmas with my own LO. The excitement from my own childhood is something I remember like it was yesterday - I can't wait to see that excitement in my own childrens' eyes.

    1. Introduction: Hello all! I haven't introduced myself yet but have been sort of lurking in and out since my MC in Sept. and am finally adjusted enough to want to join in. Im Britney, DH and I are 25 and 26. We were married in Nov. 6th 2015 and have two fur babies!

    2. Status: Currently on the TWW, hoping for some good news this week to lighten my mood!

    3. Rants/raves
As for rants, I have a couple!
@babyroper16 I literally have started to take such an offense to anyone saying any variance of either "your turn next" or the opposite of "don't have kids too soon enjoy life", its gotten to a point I've caught myself biting my tongue and giving nasty glares instead of answering because I cant even find classy enough words. I know they usually mean well but its so hard sometimes.
You handled that shower better than I would have myself and props to you for going!

    @reneeannemm
I have a coworker that has the same EDD as I did coming up in a few weeks and I just know its an emotional ticking bomb. To top it off, I have another co worker who is 19, has a 1.5 yr old now who complains that her SO doesn't watch or properly take care of the child while she's at work, that he has other women over the house, and sells drugs out of their home. My DH and I currently both work there and she knows that we dealt with a loss and are still grieving, yet she thought it proper to announce to us together her new pregnancy, make constant remarks about how sick she feels and phone calls to family to talk about ultrasounds. Congratulations on getting KU by dad of the year? Yeah, that's another bomb waiting to go off.

and last one I promise! I have to have gallbladder surgery on Friday due to gallstones caused from the pregnancy. (again the pain and reminders don't seem to stop) AF is due Saturday and Im hoping to goodness that it doesn't. Everyone say a little prayer for my DH if he has to deal with me post surgery and AF!

Raves: My DH finally got the phone call for the pharmaceutical job he's been wanting and starts next week!

    4. GTKY: what holiday(s) are you most looking forward to celebrating with your kid(s)? Why?
This is a hard one to answer but I think Christmas would have to win because its more of a season so there's much more magic to celebrate!
  • @chloe97 and @bornready - OMG I lurve you guys! I know it isn't a promise or anything but it means we're not out of the game this month. As a friend at the office (who it turns out has had issues conceiving) said (who usually isn't in the office the same days as me this semester - so lovely way to start a week) - you're not out of the game for the month until you're out of the game.

@booksforme23 – my DH thinks I'm obsessed/BSC with baby stuff.

@riversong15 – the 3/10 is in Fahrenheit or Celsius?

@silentP and @honebeewebb2424 – woot on the new jobs! Congrats

    @AL_TwinCities – hugs and love

Edit - figured it out .3F - which works out to .54C, for the Canucks on the board

Yes, Fahrenheit! I forgot we have Canadians on the board.... Ooofff. Sorry guys!
  • 2. WTO, hopefully any day now, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up

    3. Same grumpy rants from WTO in TTGP: I can't seem to sleep through the night so my temps are all wonky, and my body is giving some annoyingly ambiguous signs that I might ovulate soon, but not enough to be very confident. I'm so tired of waiting already. First waiting to miscarry, now waiting to ovulate, and hopefully soon I'll be waiting to test vs AF. Sorry for the grumpiness today. On a happy note, I had my first day back at work yesterday and everyone was so great. They all asked first before hugging me, which I declined each time because I knew I'd start crying. A couple of them shared their MC experiences with me and commiserated at the awfulness of it all. I felt very loved and supported.

    4. I was really excited to have a baby for Halloween his year, but I'm good with the thought of having an older baby for Halloween next year. I think Christmas will be really fun with kids, and also Easter. My family always did a treasure hunt in addition to the Easter egg hunt and I can't wait to do that for my kids

@BornReady Ugh, that's annoying that your TTC clock started over. Hopefully you won't need to see a specialist anyway. Also, thank you for mentioning your weird sleeping patterns and that they're getting better. My sleep is awful right now and I've never had sleeping problems before. Good to know it'll hopefully get better with time.

@chloe97 I'm sorry you're having such a rough time with everything. I hope the snowstorm won't keep you from seeing your counselor. I'm seeing mine Wednesday too and I feel like it's helping.

@catiecatp My implantation dip was 7/10 of a degree (F), still above the cover line, and was the same day as my BFP. I'm still confused how that was possible

@AL_TwinCities I for one liked the question. It's nice to think about happy things in the future and get my brain out of obsessing over temps and CM and whatnot

@honeybeewebb2424 Welcome! Good luck with the gallbladder surgery, and I'll keep FX for you that AF stays away

    2. Status (WTO, TWW, Benched, etc.):  CD1, didn't even know if AF would come since this is the first cycle post D&C.  Hopefully I'll be back on Clomid for the next cycle and we'll be TTC, but I won't know until I see my RE again in a few weeks.

    3. Rants/raves: Glad last week was over... I finally went back to working full time (self employed so I make my own hours but had been slacking as of late).  Also was able to talk to my RE about the fetal pathology report...feel 100 times better after that.  She explained the genetic abnormality and told us the baby's gender, it was the final piece I needed for closure.  It was really sad, but I felt slightly happy too which is weird.  Just emotionally all over the place.

    4. GTKY: what holiday(s) are you most looking forward to celebrating with your kid(s)? Why?  Birthdays!  Birthdays were always big in my family and if we ever do have a healthy baby to hold, a birthday will be that much more important to me and DH.  Christmas too though, I love everything about it and seeing it through kids eyes will be amazing.  It does make me sad every time I go by baby clothing that celebrates their 'first holiday' and know I may never put a child in one of those... but I am hopeful!
  • @Aera11 I felt the exact same way when I was told the genetic result. It was like a bit of sadness to lose my baby girl, and a bit of happiness to get an answer. However, with my first loss, I was told it was inconclusive, which gave me a much worse feeling. Such a weird and emotionally conflicting experience.

FX for all of you ladies on the TWW!

Hugs to all who are having a rough time with pregnant acquaintances, inappropriate comments by others, and medical issues following the losses. I am thinking and praying for you ladies :)

    2. TWW also, 8-10DPO. I stopped temping halfway through this cycle. It is way too stressful for me, I think it does more harm than good in my case. I continue to chart (ie BD, CM and AF). Last two pregnancies were conceived without temping so I am not too worried. I am trying to follow my New Years resolution: "To chill". I will update you all this weekend when AF is due.

    3. My rave is that I just came back from an awesome trip to Vienna! I had a conference and spent a few days beforehand sightseeing. It is such a beautiful city, I felt in love! Lots of fancy buildings and architecture. I also enjoyed so many cappuccinos. I recommend it to everyone. My rant is that I now have jetlag, haha, posting at 5am is not normally my thing

    4. I really hope to celebrate all of the holidays with my rainbow (I have no live children) and probably go overboard lol. I am specially excited about dressing him/her up in matching costumes with his/her momma for Haloween, it's beautiful to picture (tears).

  • catiecatp With the cycle I became PG, I’m pretty sure I had an implantation dip, because it was right around day 7.  It dropped down pretty far, to my cover line, if not below. (I was paper charting there and don’t have that with me at work currently, but can let you know for sure what it was after I get home if you’d like!).  It was lower for 2 days and then shot back up.

@zrain I find that individual temps don’t mean as much as the overall theme for me.  I’d get discouraged if I had a temp that was seemingly too low or too high, but have lately tried to relax and just write it down and know that a week later it usually makes sense.  But between me getting up at night to pee, some sleepless nights, waking up at different times on different days (anywhere from 4:30am to 9am), I try not to stress too much over any individual or few days of temps.  It helps keep me sane!  Maybe try not to focus too much each day on it, but just write it down and dismiss it in your head and then look back to get an idea?  Plus the first few cycles after my MC I had some REALLY weird temps that have finally started to settle down (on my 4th cycle after MC).

@klauerinaking So happy for your trip to Vienna.  I've always wanted to go there (and the countryside of Austria, of course)!  Super excited for you!

  • @klauerinaking Vienna sounds amazing! It's definitely on my list!

@aera11 I'm glad that you got th closure that you needed. My Dr wouldn't test my fetal tissue, so we have no idea what happened and it's the worst.

    Question*************
If you're have an anovulatory cycle, when do you count yourself out? My temp is still very low (97.19) in CD 20 and the WONDFO lines have gone from pretty dark to pretty light, but CBE is still flashing smileys. I'm just wondering if it's worth it to keep BD-ing. I'm not in a great place right now, so BD-ing is not on the top of my list. My CM went from watery to dried up. Cp is firm. Is there any hope for this cycle?
  • @Chloe77 How many days of smileys have you had at this point?
  • @BornReady It's been 5 now.
  • @chloe97 based on your other signs, it doesn't sound like you are going to O anytime soon. You probably could take a breath from the sex if you want. But if you notice your CP getting soft and open again, and/or if you see fertile CM again, I'd start having sex again.

  • Thanks @AL_TwinCities not what I was hoping for. TMI alert***** I've noticed no EWCM since my MC. I've gotten watery CM that maybe stretches .5 of an inch which I really have to dig for. I'm starting to wonder if I even ovulated last cycle at all.

This is is so frustrating. H wants me to call the doctor and tell her all this (the not sleeping, not ovulating, migraines etc)  but I'm positive that she is going to blow me off as "it's just your body regulating itself". I have a call into an RE, I'm hoping they will see me. In the meantime, I decided to cut out all refined carbs/sugar etc. I've gained 7 lbs in 3 months. I'm worried I have a mild form of PCOS, but bc I conceived right away she won't test me for it.
  • @chloe97 I'm sorry about your symptoms, that sounds really rough. Have you thought about seeing an acupuncturist? Seeing an OB or RE they will try to treat your symptoms, but TCM (Traditional Chinese medicine) is a holistic approach - they look for root causes of symptoms like your migranes and lack of sleep and EWCM, and treat the cause through food therapy, herbs, exercise recommendations, acupuncture, etc. I am reading a book right now that is called The Infertility Cure that might be interesting - it isn't just for people who meet the definition of infertility, but does a great job of explaining why TCM is different (and maybe better?) than the Western approach. I've been seeing an acupuncturist since November and I think it's a big part of the reason I got pregnant in the first place (14 months of no luck, and the cycle I see an acupuncturist I got KU naturally), and I am also guessing she helped my cycle regulate after loss. My OB nurse was shocked that I had ovulated within a few weeks after my loss, because it essentially my loss was like labor. She hasn't had any other patients who regulated so quickly in her 20+ years of experience. Might be something to consider!

  • @AL_TwinCities I've been seeing an acupuncturist for 2 months now and taking the herbs. I know that you are a big believer, but I'm actually concerned they are making this worse. Since I had my formula changed again on Saturday, not only have I not improved, but I'm 100 times worse- crying constantly, not sleeping, and not ovulating. I have nothing to compare it to, so maybe I would be worse off if I hadn't started, but I find it hard to believe.
  • @zrain - thanks for telling me your dip went pretty far down - I was counting myself out of the game before I should have. And I'm glad your coworkers were so good at acknowledging what you needed

@aera11 - I'm glad you were able to get some closure - hugs

@klauerinaking - you trip sounds lovely - I love European architecture - the cities have a nice old feel to them in a way that most Canadian cities do not.

@dpjennifer - thanks for letting me know your dip lasted two days :)

@chloe97 - your symptoms sound rough - at some point regulating itself needs to not be the response anymore, like you I understand that how long it takes varies, but at some point is becomes a lazy response from the doctor. Some are impacting your quality of life and should be taken seriously... Plus not to poke at a sore wound, but after 35 doctors are supposed to be more on the ball with helping you (aren't they?) In theory it could be PCOS, and you just so happened to have a good cycle or two and got a BFP. Perhaps it isn't statistically likely, but that doesn't mean it is impossible. Hopefully you are able to get in with a responsive RE

    -----

I really appreciate y'all listening and cheering me on about my temperature dip -
I went up a bit today (.4C, which I think is just about .22F) so the yoyo of emotions continues. My posts could be interpreted as symptom spotting on some boards but for me was really about understanding what might be going on (I've never had a temperature dip so large that didn't result in AF) and also comfort - DH doesn't know what to say, or have the knowledge, when I told him my temperature dipped and AF was likely coming he said "ok" ...

    2. Status (WTO, TWW, Benched, etc.) WTO

    3. Rants/raves: impatient to join another DDC

    4. GTKY: what holiday(s) are you most looking forward to celebrating with your kid(s)? Why? Easter. Because it is coming up soon & we have a huge egg hunt with the entire family.
  • @Chloe77 ugh, so frustrating. I actually stopped seeing my acupuncturist last cycle. Oddly, perhaps just timing wise, this has been my most "normal" cycle since my MC @4 months out. I stopped going when someone filled in on the day my provider was off. I was just into my luteal phase and got my period that night. I imagine it was just a coincidence, but I was annoyed that she didn't seem to ask about my cycle which put me off.

Also, are your digital OPK measuring LH or just estrogen rises? I use the advanced ones and I get several days of flashing smileys before a solid.

I hope you get some answers soon.
  • Thanks @bornready I'm using the Advanced CBE which measure both. I'd be more apt to believe it if I had any fertile CM, but I've had nothing. You had acupuncture and it shortened your LP??? That is the thing about starting acupuncture right after a loss is there is no way to know if acupuncture caused the issues or if your loss caused the hormone issues. It just seems weird that I'm worse 3 months after my loss than I was 2 months after it.

@al_twincities What's annoying is that this is a practice of 4 women who specialize in fertility issues and they change my herbal formula  EVERY time I go and charge me between $40-$60 for it. I'm paying $160 a week in total and got nothing from it- I've spent at least $1000 for no benefits that I can discern. I may try another place that charges on a sliding scale-$50 at the most.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to me. I've had such a bad go of it lately. My one friend told me to take my temp in the am and not look at it until I get up, so I may try that. I have a call into an RE new patient call center to see what they can do for me now under my insurance since I'm pretty sure I have to wait till June before my insurance will cover RE. I also called my Dr, but I'm not expecting much more than "your hormones are fluctuating and maybe you didn't ovulate-oh well". Standard OB stuff.

I was just looking at my TSH results and I noticed that they were 2.4733. The new " at risk" numbers are supposed to be 2.5, but My Dr uses the old numbers of between1-5. I'm pretty concerned that wasn't highlighted despite my concerns of hair loss.

  • RiverSong15RiverSong15 member
    edited February 2016
@chloe97 - the TSH is worth following up on. Have you had multiple draws close to 2.5? If not, I'd push to get another TSH test (1 high test alone isn't enough). If it's  higher than 2.5, you should look for a doc that follows the new guidelines. My doctor wanted me below a 2 before TTC, and when my one draw was 2.8 at the beginning of my pregnancy, she increased my dose. My OB said its better to slightly over control than under control. She also said my high TSH likely didn't cause my MC... So who knows? But that's my experience with thyroid issues.
  • @chloe97 YIKES. I would definitely stop going there. Hugs girl, I'm so sorry you have been having such a tough time!

    3. Rants/raves: Clicked on my old BMB last night, bad idea. Will not do that again. I'm also getting anxious because I have OB clinical next week. I'm pretty sure I can handle it, but I'm not sure. If there's a stillborn or something like a mom having a baby addicted to drugs, definitely not. I will be talking to my instructor beforehand to let her know I had a miscarriage last semester and I'm excited for OB because I love that specialty, but if I need to leave, that's why. I hope it goes okay because we only get one OB rotation and I've looked forward to it this whole time, but now not so much. I really like this teacher and know she'll be understanding (she lectured on IF last semester and said she was okay with people leaving if they need to) but I don't like to feel weak or something.

    4. GTKY: what holiday(s) are you most looking forward to celebrating with your kid(s)? Why? Do summers count? H Is a teacher and I'm hoping to get a flexible job so we can have summers off to just road trip and have fun. Otherwise not a big holiday person.

  • @cooaladoll FX for a lucky cycle for you!

@FiancB It must be such a comfort to have such a kind teacher. I'm sure she will handle that with ease.

@chloe77 Awesome! Maybe you'll get either good news or answers soon!

@Af2013nl I'm so sorry for your losses. I know not having answers is super frustrating.

I think several people have asked about the homemade detergent... here is the link!

I halved the recipe so it would fit into an antique glass container I already had. I absolutely love it!

@chloe97 The types of herbs you’ve been taking may not be quite right for you.  I went to an acupuncturist several years ago for problems unrelated to fertility… and I loved it.  But then my acupuncturist suggested herbs and I decided to give it a go.  I already have GERD and within a week I had heartburn so bad I thought my esophagus was melting, and my heartburn meds had the equivalent effect of taking M&Ms.  So I had to stop it because it wasn’t the right mixture for me.  It can take some adjusting apparently, so talk to your acupuncturist about it if you don’t feel right.  When I mentioned it to mine she suggested tweaking the formula to something less 'hot' for my body, but I decided to leave well enough alone and not bother.

My herbalist friend has recently given me some other herbs to deal with some of my heartburn and cycle symptoms and those things have worked great, without giving me a melting esophagus!

    Good luck to you!

  • GhanimaAtreides I got it sorted after a huge headache of a situation. So I guess since I'm on an aspirin regiment and it's only periodic medication, that its fine. But CVS was confused on how she wrote the prescription and they were supposed to call yesterday morning to confirm. All of a sudden my prescription was posted online but it wasn't correct. Turns out they never called and just assumed what she wanted me to have. So they had to call again to figure it out. Now it should be coming in this afternoon which is crucial because I'm already on 3 DPO and should have started it already. Hopefully the extra day doesn't cause any issues. Thanks for following up.

  • @GhanimaAtreides I see the RE in a week and a half so hopefully they can figure out what's going on. I've had sleep issues before, but never like this!!!!
  • @GhanimaAtreides :) My betas are back down to negative, which I didn't know was possible. My hemoglobin is strong as ever. No thyroid issues. Ultrasound clear, except those pesky fibroids. The appointment was hard. The early pregnancy clinic is also a breastfeeding clinic and this time around there were no fewer than 8 newborns in the waiting area with me, so I spent the entire time sobbing. I was supposed to see an obgyn but I didn't have the energy to wait for the one on call, so I'll get an appointment to check up on the fibroids while I wait for this endless spotting to wrap up so I can get my period back.

Your daughter is the sweetest. Good on you. Adorable.  <3

Also, I will have to look into the light exposure you've mentioned.  I heard something recently about light exposure to change sleeping habits or to help one have better sleep.  I'm going to have to check into it.

Although the long period doesn't bother me that much.  It's kinda bummy that I have less 'chances' each year to get pregnant than if I had a 'regular' 28-day cycle, but since I've been temping at least I know more about my cycle and that my luteal phase is long enough to not be considered a problem and that I at least ovulate!  So, that's all good news.

  • @GhanimaAtreides Thanks for the CS! I've had the thought of no O, too. I've been having some severe PMS symptoms and some spotting today, which of course could be purely coincidental. Also, after I posted my chart on Monday, I was looking into ways I could make temping better, and I realized that my thermometer itself has been reviewed as problematic (CVS BBT). I've noticed a few things wonky with the BBT I have (always reporting Low Battery even after a battery change and never shows the right "last temp"). I didn't think these things would have an effect on my temp, but better safe than sorry, I suppose. I ordered a Mabis and will start using it next cycle. Also, RE: DD - super cute!

  • @GhanimaAtreides I think I did. Of course things are messed up after a MC but I think since mine was so early it didn't screw me up too bad. I've tested every day even after I got what *might* have been a positive and looking back I think I can say I O'd Monday. Plus I've been having ovulation pain and *TMI* a lot of CM for at least the last week. We did BD a few times.... We'll see I guess.

  • 1. Hi, I m carmen. I'm in my first cycle ttc after my daughter was born still December 10.

    2. Currently in the tww. I am 4dpo and I'm hoping af won't show tomorrow like she did last cycle.

  • @cjs260 I say cd19. I only use FAM settings as I find it more accurate. You had good coverage either way!
