@sboston06 I don't see anything wrong with that. Especially since they aren't close cousins and live so far away from you. That's nice that you are probably going to ask him though- that way he won't be surprised by it and feels like he has a heads up. Hopefully he won't have a problem with it!
So I am late to this game, but now that we know it's a girl..our two favorite names are Alexa Janelle and Emmalyn Karen. Middle names are after our moms. Emmalyn is one we saw in a baby book and fell in love with, especially DH. But I'm not sure how to spell it.. we kind of liked the one N as its a nod to his grandmother Carolyn who recently passed away. But I've seen it Emmalynn or Emmalynne too, though I kind of feel like that's getting too long..
The first time that I heard the name, it was while watching Army Wives, and they spelled it Emmalin. I think that Emmalyn looks better than Emmalin.
I have not read through this massive thread but throwing my names out there for any feedback. Not sure where the L fascination came from, it's just coincidence!
Theodore Oliver A. (nn Teddy) Lucas Oliver A. Lylah Ruth A. Lauren Ruth A.

Woah. That escalated. I don't think anyone was being a "rude snarky bitch" but offering their opinions, which is what this thread is for. But calling people bitches is definitely tanking the supportive nature of this community.
@pinkpenguin32 - I love Lauren and Lucas. Lucas is actually our 2nd choice (after Jake, discussed above lol). I think Lauren was a popular name in the mid-80's but I haven't seen too much of it since then.
@sboston06 I love the name Jacob! I have a cousin named Jacob, too! I'd probably just tell him we love the name and that we'd like to use it, but wanted to let him know first. You could do the same with your DH's cousin. He may feel honored! I would
@elenabrent my first post on this thread was for opinions. However my second post on this thread was to update and say "we have an official name!" .. After many commenters saying they disapproved of the spelling of my official choice- my 3rd post on this thread was to say well that's the name I chose and I happen to love it (considering its MY child that I'm naming).. Then I get told that this thread is for opinions and that they weren't sure what I expected. Well I'll tell you what I expected. I expected opinions first and then once I chose my child's name I expected congrats! I didn't expect so many negative posts on the choice of name for my child. What's ruining the supportiveness of this community is not me getting my feelings hurt, it's people thinking they have the right to bash me for getting my feelings hurt. I would never tell an excited soon to be mom that I didn't like her name choice, or that she should go elsewhere if she didn't want people not to like it.
@ButterMyBiscuit I'm sorry you don't think I'm cool. But I don't think it's cool to come to a place where you should be supported and encouraged and instead get put down and be told "sorry I don't know what else you expected".
@ashleighhughes the thread is literally called "the names you want opinions on" I think the rest of this community expects to be able to give you an opinion without being called a bitch for having an opposing opinion to your own. If you don't like people's opinions then don't name your child that- but calling other people names for disagreeing with you is immature to say the least. Give support/respect to get it.

I like Emmalyn and when I pronounced it in my head it corresponded to your post later about pronunciation. It's unique, but not weird. I also love Alexa so don't think you can go wrong!
@ashleighhughes maybe I didn't see another post but your post says I think we settled on a name. Then you go on to talk about all of the different choices on how to spell the name. I'm sorry but that looks like you wanted input, especially in this thread. I'm sorry you were hurt by everyone's responses but you may need to reevaluate this whole situation.
@HMcDade1 I've said it 3 times I'll say it again. My FIRST post was the "names I want opinions on".. I took those opinions into consideration. My SECOND post on this thread was to say "we have an official name for our baby girl! It's _____ ______!!!" That was not an invitation to bash my official name choice. My THIRD post on this thread was to say to all the people who didn't like the spelling of my child's name " well I love it. My name is spelled uniquely so I think it's great that my child's name will be spelled uniquely".. Then after that someone decided to tell me that they didn't know what I expected. I EXPECTED congratulations on choosing an official name. NOT people telling me that my child will grow up hating her uniquely spelled name. After all, I didn't. I love my uniquely spelled name. And I love my daughters uniquely spelled name too.
@mckcak23 you're right I said I think we've settled on an official name. I think that's pretty clear that her name is chosen. I did add another paragraph which said "optional spellings WERE _____, ______ and _______. But I liked ______ over ______." I think that's pretty clear also on the fact that these were the choices, but I CHOSE _____. People gave me their opinions on the spelling on the first post that I made. I took those into consideration and came back with an update that we had an official name. I wasn't looking for opinions on the spelling in the second post- just stating what the options had been and which name I chose from those options.
As much as I'm enjoying this back and forth. I also think people were just confused and thought you still wanted opinions since you provided options for alternative spellings. I don't think anyone was trying to be a snary bitch at all. But if this must continue, I'm totally here for it.
@Heathereaddy I guess I shouldn't have posted what the optional spellings were in the 2nd post. They were included in my 1st post- which is where I took into consideration people's opinions on the spelling. After I chose the official name I shouldn't have put what the optional spellings had been. My bad I guess.
@ashleighhughes I'm sorry but if anyone is being rude and snarky, it is you. If this many people don't get what you meant with your subsequent posts, you are the common denominator, not everyone else.
It might be time to grow a thicker skin. And frankly, I think you're getting a pretty good cross section of what people think of the name you love...but will ever actually tell you.
@Natinat6 it's not that this many people didn't understand what I meant by my posts- it's that they never read my previous posts. If they had read the 1st one with the options- then the 2nd one with the final name choice, I don't think they would have offered their opinions on spelling considering that was done in the 1st post. I am in no way being rude. The fact that everyone feels the need to gang up on me is actually rude. No one has said that they didn't like my name choice- they don't like the spelling choice. If my mom had listened to everyone who told her not to spell my name uniquely then I'd have the same spelled name as 20% of the female population and I'm glad I don't! Haha
Well, I think you were rude. Where I come from, calling someone a snarky bitch is rude.
But I also come from a place where we spell names the boring old fashioned/correct way so it makes sense that we don't see eye to eye.
Like I said, I think people didn't pick up on the fact that you had chosen. And I think you had been a bit nicer about it, people wouldn't have piled on. But that's the beauty of the Internet, you can ride off into the sunset with your name and who gives a flying f what we think. You love it. God's speed.
In any case, if you don't like people not liking the name you've picked out and telling you so, I'd suggest keeping it to yourself. This is a forum and people are free to offer any opinion they want, regardless if you asked for it, and regardless if you like it or not.
As it is, I announced our names because I don't give a shit what other people think about my name choices and if they don't like it, boo hoo to them. But I'm going to get all defensive about it to them because what good's that going to do?
@Natinat6 after all the opinions on the final choice- my post was "well that's what I've chosen for my child and I love it." I encourage you to go back and read it. It wasn't rude at all haha.
I never called anyone a snarky b****. I said if someone else had chosen a spelling I didn't like I WOULDNT BE a snarky b**** and tell them I didn't like it, etc. Again, I encourage you to go back and read the post lol.
Also, there's no wrong way to spell a name. If a mom wants to spell her daughters name Xyrntaga (totally just typed some letters there) then that's the right spelling because that's what she chose to name her.

Theodore Oliver A. (nn Teddy) Lucas Oliver A. Lylah Ruth A. Lauren Ruth A.
Love them, except Lucas (but that is just because of popularity, I know way too many of them). We had Lyla on the list for DD, but I prefer the spelling Lilah/Lila/Lyla. There was a little girl named Lauren in DD's dance class, and I remember thinking "man...thats refreshing!" One of those names that you don't hear that often anymore, and kind of stands out (in a nice way) among all of the Brinley/Emma/Ellie/etc that are out there today. I would love to put Theodore on our list, but my BIL (husband's side) is legally Teddy, and we aren't really a fan of him, so I wouldn't want him to think that we named our kid after him!

It looks like the admins beg to differ since they deleted it for violating the TOU.
@Heathereaddy like I said, I never called anyone a snarky b****... Simply said that if someone had chosen a name I didn't like I wouldn't be a snarky b**** and say I didn't like it, wouldn't spell it that way, etc.
honestly I'm over it all. I mean this is my child I'm naming and my husband and our families love the name we have chosen. In my first post I was looking for opinions but my second post was just an update saying what the name we had chosen in the end was... I should have never posted the official name I guess. All this could have been avoided but I was naive enough to think people cared what I had decided? Oh well.
I can't name this kid. Let's hope the 15 week elective ultrasound was wrong and we actually have a girl, not because I want a girl more or anything but because a girl has a name and a boy doesn't. I think it might come down to delivery before we decide on this boy name!!

My husband and I were in the same boat with boy names. The little bean solved that problem by not having a set of frank-and-beans, but I'm telling you the impending fear of not having any idea what a boy name would be is completely relatable.
My parents settled on a girl name a week before I was born. I'm sure you guys will find the perfect name before your littlest one is here!
