3rd Trimester

Should i have baby at 39 weeks on daddys bday? Or wait till 40 weeks and have baby on leap year?

i have two unique options i can get induced and have my baby boy our first child at 39 weeks on daddys bday! Or i can try to hold on and try to wait to have him at 40 weeks and 1 day on leap year! I think both would be neat and special but I'm torn cause obviously i want baby to cook as long as possible but he's big and ive had lots of contractions and labor symptoms and I'm veryyyy uncomfortable.. but I'm worried if i try to wait for leap year that i wont make it and ill end up missing the chance of having him on daddys bday and miss leap year aswell.. i don't know what i should do?

  • I'm past my due date and have my induction date set up in case she doesn't come on her own. I'm not allowed to pick my date, maybe if I was given options possibly but I wasn't. They said the hospital would check on 3 different dates and I was assigned a date and time of when they could fit me in. I wouldn't worry about the date, can you pick a date? I would just see what happens.

Why not just let nature take its course?  Induction is not even a topic of discussion with my Dr unless we foresee myself going beyond 42 weeks.
Baby will come when baby is ready....why not just wait for that and plan for induction only if baby goes beyond 40 weeks?  Pregnancy isn't meant to be 'comfortable', so being uncomfortable is really just part of the process.

  • Obviously you should try to let baby come naturally unless medically necessary. Also, I don't know how much experience you have with inductions, but they can last a long time. I was induced at 5 pm on a Monday and DD was delivered at 3 pm on Wednesday. She was delivered with vacuum assistance and afterwards my OB said it could have taken at least two more hours of pushing.
So really it's unlikely to plan to give birth on either of your planned dates.
  • is it still special if you've handpicked the date your baby will be born?  Also I was induced with DS on a Monday and he was born on a Wednesday so it doesn't exactly work like that.

  • Ugh.  I seriously hope this is MUD.  Inductions are not fun and should not be used to pick the birthday you want.  Personally I wouldn't want my baby born on either day.  Having an over due baby sucks but the befits to baby out weigh all the discomfort and once you have gone through it you'd rather go late than early.

  • PS not inducing doesn't mean your baby will
    come on leap day anyway
