How are you ladies handling your weight?

Re: How are you ladies handling your weight?

  • @SuperFudge00 I'm still trying to loose weight from baby #1 too...I was up 7lbs when I got pregnant with baby #2...so far I think I've gained maybe a pound or 2 but it feels like much more!  I'm so bloated too

  • @MojieJo don't don't beat yourself up so much! Gaining weight is an important and necessary part of being pregnant.

  • @mhilpisch10 Oh, I know, I'm just frustrated with the random water weight/poo buildups that make me gain 2+ pounds in less than 24 hours.

I'm just really not looking forward to having to deal with my doctor when he blasts me for having gained so much in between my last appointment and this one (especially since he doesn't know what I weighed before getting pregnant or that I've barely gained so far since I've seen him all of once so far; this will be the second time).

I don't mind gaining weight and I fully expect put on quite a bit more before it's over!  I just don't like these big up and down swings that aren't "real" weight.

  • I've made the decision not to own a scale which is working out well sol far. Oherwise I stress and obsess over my weight. At my last appointment I was down 2 lbs from my weight at my annual, which was in October, and I don't feel like I have gained weight when I wear my clothes. However (and this is for any ftm stressing about gaining) - I gained 60 lbs with DS and excersised a ton and ate a healthy diet (I'm usually a size 4). I was a mess and didn't understand how I could have gained that much! The doctors were lecturing me a ton, but all 60 lbs came off in 3 months post partum without me trying. Some people just gain more weight in pregnancy and as long as it's not due to an unhealthy diet, it's not worth stressing over imo. If I gaim another 60 lbs this time, I won't bat an eye.
  • My weight fluctuates so much, probably from bloating and water weight. In one day I went from 169 to 163. I had to do a double take. I've been lucky with very minimal ms, and have been almost as active as before my pregnancy. The worst is the fatigue. Hope everyone is doing well! :)

  • @SarahMConnors I hear you!  I had just joined Weight Watchers in September and had lost 12 pounds so far and now I know all that will come right back...But like you said, we've done it once, we can do it again!

Luckily so far my MS is keeping me from eating everything in sight so I'm within a pound of my pre-BFP weight, up or down depending on the day lately, but I know it's coming.
  • Friday was 11 weeks for me and as of today I have gained 4lbs so far. My goal is to not gain more than 5lbs in the first trimester. I actually weigh myself everyday, which is something I have done everyday for the last few years since I lost 30lbs to keep myself in check. Some people think its crazy but it helps me a lot.

  • I haven't gained any so far, which is a relief since I gained so much with my son. I'm still up about 20 lbs, so I'm hoping to keep the weight gain off for another 5-6 weeks. Last time, I got pregnant a couple months after our wedding, and I was soooo hungry after starving for months leading up to the wedding!

  • Same here I was 11 weeks on Friday and I have gained 6 lbs, probably due in part to eating an entire package of pop tarts at one sitting and craving delicious carbs like mac and cheese, pizza and Jimmy Johns.

I am already feeling better than I did 2 weeks ago, and I am going to make an attempt to eat the way I did pre-pregnancy and get back to pilates and the gym. Wish me luck!

  • I hate seeing the scale move! I was fine last time but it still terrifies me
  • I hate the weight gain part of this as well!  I gained 50lbs with my first and 40lbs with my second, I have a pipe dream to only gain 30lbs with this one, but I doubt that will happen!  My mom gained around 40-50 with each of her kids as well, so I have to believe part of it is genetic.  Both my boys were good sized as well (8 lbs 15 oz and 9 lbs 2 oz) so this baby will probably be big as well!  I've had tons of nausea, but really only thrown up twice, so that's good, but I've also been snacking a bunch to settle my stomach.  I've made it to the gym a few times a week so far and afterwards, I always feel so much better, so hopefully I can keep getting there!  I'm guessing I'm up probably 5lbs, but I'm too scared to actually jump on the scale.  I have my first apt at 12 weeks and then I will have to face the doctor's scale for sure!

  • I lost about 10 lbs due to anxiety/nausea. I think I've gained 2 lbs back. I was a little overweight to begin with so no complaints from me!

  • I'm about even, maybe down a pound or two.  I gained 30 with my other two and although I would love (and can afford!) to gain less than that, I imagine that's probably where I'll end up.
  • I lost 25 pounds, from just not wanting to eat, severe heart burn and morning/all day sickness. I am over weight, so my midwife says it's not dangerous. I actually went down two pants sizes;)
  • 8 weeks today, and I have gained 3 lbs. I'm calling that a win :)

  • I had my annual exam mid-Dec (after I conceived but before BFP).  At my first OB appointment four weeks later, I had dropped 9 pounds due to severe food aversions.  After a bit of a lecture from the nurse, I tried different things to help maintain my weight and was up 1.5 pounds the next week at my first ultrasound.  Since then, my eating habits have been horrendous and the fluctuation of what I eat, whether or not I'm constipated, the blump, etc have had me all over the scale.  When I look in the mirror, I feel like I look like I've gained a lot.  My next appt is Wed so I guess we'll find out then!  No matter what, I know it'll all level out in 2nd tri when I can be more diligent about exercise and eating healthy.  Can't wait to get to that point!

  • I don't have a scale at home so I'm not sure how much I've gained, but I can tell that I've definitely gained some weight. I usually feel really sick all morning and afternoon so by evening I'm starving and probably eat too much. Plus I've been having cravings. And I'm too tired and feeling too crappy to exercise.

I've been very lucky and haven't had any nausea, unfortunately I am starving pretty much 24/7, so I've already gained about 2.5 lbs. at 10 weeks.

  • Ugh, I think I'm about 5 lbs, but I swear half of it is constipation.  I miss pooping....
  • I think I may be up a couple of pounds, but I'm not worried about it. I'm working out and eating what little food sounds good.

@Thscary @ahackett1990 lifting is still totally fine! With my first I quit doing anything more than walking because I was so nervous, and I hated it. This time I kept going, because logically I know it's ok and good for me even if it makes me nervous. I do crossfit which includes HIIT training with weights as well as weight lifting on its own. I'm not trying to increase my weight right now, and I stop if I don't feel well and take more breaks. I don't necessarily push through the pain like I did before. I even did a competition this weekend (only 2 events, but still). Keep doing what you were doing! (Listen to your doctor of course)
  • I haven't put on too many pounds as of yet (8 weeks along), I am however feeling pretty flabby around the middle and it's been difficult to fit into some pants that I could a few weeks ago! Last year I worked very hard to lose weight - about 30 pounds total, so having to face the fact that I am probably going to gain about that much BACK during the next 7 months is a hard pill to swallow. I've always been extremely self conscious about my weight so I'm trying to come to terms with what is going to happen. I've completely changed my eating habits as well when I lost the weight and I've been cheating a little more than I like. I can't figure out if my uncomfortableness right now is because of how I'm eating or just the changes I am experiencing. My husband is sure getting tired of hearing that "I'm fat", when I know I'm not.

How do you guys deal with the thought of HAVING to gain all of this weight? Especially if you've had struggles in the past!
  • I've gained only a couple lbs, but with my son I gained over 50lbs. I'm only 5'3" so that 50 seemed like a lot. But I gave myself 9 months to get it off without stressing and it had all came off within those 9 months. I know it doesn't always happen that way. But try not stress, you need to gain weight!
  • I haven't assessed the damage yet numerically, but my clothes are definitely tight. My self-discipline went out the window and I've had several weeks now of eating whatever sounds palatable at whatever weird time-of-day the urge strikes me.

Now that my fatigue has kinda-sorta abated, I've signed up for the old gym I was going to before I switched jobs 6ish months ago. I've missed it something awful, my kids enjoy the play/activity center, and holy crap the heated indoor pool sounds absolutely incredible right now. I'm not going to worry about the numbers, I'm just going to try to keep active and feeling decently.

  • Up about 2 pounds...  No more sickness and decent appetite.
  • Also.. I think my boobs have already gained their 2-3 pounds. Woop woop!

  • @AnnaS930 Yes!  I was thinking the other day that mine have probably each added a pound to my total weight.  Then, I was like, "Get real," it's probably way less than that...  But after revisiting the chart above, my feelings were validated, haha!

  • @JennM205 exactly - I keep telling myself that my boobs feel like they've gained the total amount the scale reflects. The blump and tightness of the waist of my jeans says otherwise.

  • I haven't gained any yet which is good since my doctor does not want me to gain more than 10lbs. Fingers crossed that this maintains because these ice cream cravings are killing me.
  • I'm walking on a track or near by trail at least every other day plus trying to drink lots of water
  •  I had been staying away from the scale because I was sure I gained 10 pounds from eating so much and exercising so little. But I finally weighed myself this morning and I only gained 3! Why do I feel so huge?? (I'm 8 weeks, btw)
  • I've lost close to 30 so far with this pregnancy. But I'm obese to begin with. Hyperemesis... yay....

I finally got on the right meds so I'm able to drink water and eat occasionally. We'll see what happens. With my DD, I weighed less when I gave birth than I did before I got pregnant.

  • I don't know if it's worse or better but while I LOOK like I have gained about 15 or 20 pounds I have really only gained like 3 or 4 so far. Bloating is so cool. I can't wait until I start to look more pregnant than chubby! I am not moderating the *amount* of food I take in at all, just trying not to eat too much synthetic crap. So yes to the cheese quesadillas and no to the Doritos, basically.

YES! Yes to all of this. See my post above.

Also, @jas1982is the 1982 your birth year? Mine too! My birthday is this Wednesday, in fact. Yours?
  • @WildMama yes! My birthday not until the end of June (but happy early birthday to you!). Next baby we will qualify for all those extra scans................ I think around 7 and 8 weeks was actually worse for bloating than I feel approaching 11. So maybe there is hope!
  • I had only gained a few so far, and of course stepped on the scale this morning to be up 3 pounds from yesterday. It doesn't bother me in the slightest, my weight fluctuates hugely pregnant or not - but OF COURSE it had to happen on the day of an appointment. Oh well! Took a couple stool softeners and had a coffee this morning and already had a good poo. Feeling light as a feather now!!! hahaha, TMI maybe? Sorry for ya!
