  • I have gained 7 pounds since finding out 5 weeks ago. :( It is all my fault...giving in to the awful cravings of junk and sweets and not feeling energy to exercise. I know it is normal to gain 1-5 pounds in the first trimester so my goal is to not gain anymore and take advantage of any energy I have once it comes to walk my dog more and do chores around the house. I just need to get moving. I live in Michigan where it is a high of 12 degrees today so I am praying the Spring warm-up in the next few months will help me out of my winter hibernation too.
I feel you. I live in upstate NY and it is a high of 1 degrees today, lol.
  • Or should I say, 1 DEGREE*
  • I've been so lucky and have had few symptoms so I've been able to stay active and haven't gained. Weight gain should even out once passed first tri for those who are concerned. First tri just sucks.

  • I've lost 5 pounds from being sick:( I can't wait for the 1st tri to be over. I haven't gotten sick in a couple days so hoping I'm coming out of it.

  • I've had such bad morning/all-day sickness that I've actually lost 3 pounds. If I eat too much, I feel sick; if I don't eat, I feel sick. I've been living off of Teddy Grahams, dry Chex, and quesidillas. Last week I would actually cry because I was so hungry and then start to dry heave because I thought of food that I wanted to eat. This past week I was able to eat a little more - thank goodness!
  • I stay away from the scale (for multiple reasons) and judge my weight loss/gain by how my clothes fit. But, considering everything is tight and uncomfortable at this point, I know I've gained unfortunately. It doesn't help that I've been exhausted (going to bed at 8) and nauseous. DH keeps reminding me though that, after the first trimester with DS and DD, my energy picked right back up and I felt better. Here's hoping!

  • I've lost weight because MS has left me with little desire to eat. I'm overweight so the loss isn't a big deal. Happened with my last pregnancy as well. But whether any of us have lost or gained so far or in the future, its not a big deal. We are growing a freaking human. It's normal and healthy to gain weight.

  • I'm curious about this and wish I would have weighed myself when I got my BFP. I can't even remember the last time I weighed myself or was weighed so no clue what my starting weight was. I'm almost 8 weeks now and I'm sure I've gained weight because of inactivity and increased appetite.
  • I've been teetering around the same wait that I never lost from DS. I really shouldn't gain more than 15 lbs this pregnancy. Hoping this baby sucks the fat off.  :p

  • I've been pretty lucky and while I've had symptoms, they haven't been bad enough to keep me from working out yet. I haven't gained at this point, but to the ladies who have, don't stress about it! As PP said, you're growing a human!
  • Even though I have been nauseous I have only thrown up twice, so that is not that bad.

Still managed to lose a solid 5-7 pounds tho. weight varies a little everyday. But I am overweight for my height (5'4' and now 168 pounds) so it is easier to lose a little since I have been eating less due to nausea, and trying to eat better too.

  • Ive stayed the same give or take a pound or two, but I am the same way with eating only dry bland food bc the thought of most foods make me want to vom.  So its been a lot of carbs: bread, crackers, potatoes, etc. Some cravings that I had with my first are starting to kick in like strawberries, oranges, and cheese so maybe the nausea from 1st tri is almost over and  I can start to enjoy eating again!  I gained about 30lbs with my first and it was mostly in the 3rd tri.  But most women, myself included, lose quite a bit of baby weight with breast feeding, fyi :)  So im trying to not sweat it too much.

  • I've gained 7 lbs since I found out BFP.
which is very strange because I've been nauseated 24/7 the last three weeks. But I have been trying to snack every two hours as to help the nausea stay at bay.

  • I'm looking to only gain 15 or 20 pounds as I am already overweight. I've been really bloated and constipated so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw I hadn't gained any weight at my doc appointment. I had a couple of days of crappy eating though and allowed myself all the fried foods which made me more constipated and then saw I gained 3lbs! I've been eating better so I'm hoping to lose those 3lbs if I haven't already. I have been so sick with MS that I haven't been doing any physical activity other than sleep and I can't exercise due to a medical condition, so keeping track of what I eat is huge for me.

  • So far I have maintained which surprises me with how much I've been eating and how tight my clothes are getting.

  • So far I'm the same but I think it's because my muscle is breaking down due to not working out as much as I used to due to fatigue and nausea :( So once the muscle melts away and the fat continues to accumulate pretty sure I'll be on the gaining track lol :/

@mom2adoodle I'm in a similar situation . My bloat caused me to get need larger clothes, but the loss of muscle tone means I've lost weight. I haven't had a break in running/exercise in three years! I'm looking forward to the 2nd tri comeback.

  • I don't own a scale... not noticing much weight gain but the bloat is bad, currently I'm just happy when I can still do up my pants at the end of the day.

Just ordered some Prego exercise DVDs to start on as I have been seriously neglecting the gym the past few months....I feel if it is in my own home it will be more convenient to do after work. We will see, I'm pretty good at making excuses to avoid these things!

  • I have lost weight and I can tell that a part of it is lost muscle mass. I have been too nervous to keep up with my normal lifting routines and I can tell I've lost some muscle tone in my arms and legs. Considering I have lost about 1 net pound, I would say I have probably gained fat too. Giving in to cravings, ugh
  • I haven't stepped on the scale since BFP.  Went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and I'd gained 1 lb in 2 weeks.  I've lost about 60 lbs over the past 3 years and the idea of gaining weight (even though I am fully aware that I will gain a healthy 25-30 lbs during pregnancy) is very difficult for me.  I figured I'm better off not weighing myself and letting my doctor tell me if I'm gaining too much or too little.  Fortunately, I haven't had much MS and have been able to continue my gym routine.

@Thscary I feel ya with not following my normal lifting routine, though :(  Too worried so I've just been sticking to walking mostly and I can definitely tell my muscle definition in my arms and legs is wasting away.  Damn cookies.

  • I think I've gained 5 poundsish. I definitely needed too. With breastfeeding and being pregnant my body seems to need so many calories! I think I gained 35 with my first and only around 28 with my second. Most of mine is always in the third trimester. I never worry about gaining too much or too little. my body seems to gain as much as it needs when it needs. I usually gain a pound a week in the last 10-12 weeks.

  • @blondie080300 I am right there with you! I gained about 5 to 7 pounds too- though I do blame some of it on the holidays, and the rest on me being exhausted, sick for a couple weeks, and then giving into the cravings. It's so crazy cold here in NY too- doesn't help. I've been trying to walk more- I have a watch that tracks my steps so I know I'm doing more than before so I don't gain much more in the next four or five weeks of this dang trimester! And I thought sure cutting out wine and beer would make me lose weight lol!

  • @ahackett1990 I totally understand. I lost about 35 pounds over the last couple of years with Weight Watchers so the thought of gaining more than half of it back makes me more nauseous than morning sickness! Just think though- you lost it once, and you can lose it again ;)

  • I haven't been weighing myself but I know that I've gained.. Prob about 5-7 pounds at least. The cold weather combined with my symptoms had not been my friend. Basically sitting on the couch every night. I Had recently gained about 15 pounds and so I really wanted to keep the weight gain at a minimum, I just didn't realize how hard it would be during the first trimester!
today I went back to the gym to a prenatal yoga class and it felt pretty good. Hoping to keep it up and be walking a lot more when it gets warmer out!

  • I've lost about 11 pounds but I'm a bit overweight going in so I'm not worried. I haven't had much MS but general nausea and *other stomach issues* have made me eat a lot less.  I'm hungry all the time but I find when i do eat I can barely finish half of what I used to.
  • I went up 4lbs only to weigh this morning and be back to starting weight when I got my BFP. I eat but get full really fast. Hopefully it will change and I'll have more of an appetite soon.
  • Thank you for asking this!  I forgot to weigh myself before my BFP and just did.  I've lost weight since the last time I checked (before Christmas), but I also went on a 2 week vacation in that time where I walked an average of 7 miles per day.  Now I'll be better about keeping track!

  • Thanks for sharing ladies!! It's so interesting reading all of your different experiences.

Ive lost 3 lbs. Mainly bc of all day MS and when I do eat, I fill up super quick!

I am am hoping I will have the energy and be able to handle going back to the gym soon. When I have tried to go once or twice in the pat 2 weeks I wanted to faint and puke my brains out.
  • I don't know exactly what I weighed before I got pregnant, but since 12/31, I've gained 3.2 pounds.  I've gained and lost few pounds here and there, but that's what I'm currently sitting at.

I seem to get full very quickly, but at the same time, I'll gain 1-2 pounds overnight on a semi-regular basis.  Obviously, it's water weight and/or poo, since I'm not eating enough to put that much on that fast in terms of food consumption.  Very little in the way of MS to deal with, so I'm not throwing up (aside from when my reflux makes me cough until I retch).

  • About 5 pounds here.....   :# hope to hold off on any more this trimester.
  • I'm up 5 lbs. so far (9 weeks 4 days.)  Bloat and MS snacking are responsible. Mostly bloat. It happened almost overnight.

I gained about 6 lbs. in the first trimester with DS and worried that I would gain too much by the end of the pregnancy since I was at the higher end of 1st tri. weight gain reccomendations. I ended up staying on the low end of total pregnancy weight gain (26 lbs) because I didn't crave junk food so much after the first trimester. I seem to be on the same track so I'm not stressed about it.

I am a couch potato in the 1st tri. but get energy to work out later on. Working out isn't just a weight control thing, it stabilizes my mood and gives me muscle tone so I handle pregnancy and labor better.
  • I am up about 4 pounds according to my scale, 8 pounds according to my doctor's! I swear this always happens to me...scales at the doctor's office weigh me so much heavier. It must be the bloat setting in as the day goes on haha...Anyway, I am going with the 4 lbs because I know my scale is accurate (used it for weight watchers). I started this pregnancy about 20 lbs less than I did with DS which is encouraging. I gained about 45 lbs with him and it was hard for me to lose. I was pushing 200 lbs at the end of my last pregnancy, which was a lot for me at only 5'3 with a small frame. I am hoping to gain within the recommended amount this time.

  • I've lost 6lbs so far...& im already skinny. The Dr didn't really listen to me when I told her I'm eating A LOT more than I was...so not sure why I'm losing but trying to gain!
  • @Thscary @ahackett1990 lifting is ok ladies!! I'm a power lifter (non competitive, just for fun), and I have kept up with it, within the limits that my fatigue will allow of course. The biggest thing for me is really listening to my body, taking longer rest between sets, and not pushing through if I'm feeling less than great. I also haven't done any max lifts, but have kept up with a moderate amount of weight. If it was normal for you before pregnancy, it's ok to keep going! Of course, listen to your body like crazy and modify, and also of course follow your doctors recommendations if they're different. Just my two cents!
  • Down 30 lbs since I found out. Pregnancy nausea sucks.
  • @SLou24 thank you for the reassurance!! I love lifting and I'm missing it big time.  I tend to do mostly super sets but since finding out I'm pregnant I'm sticking to resting longer between sets and doing a lot more machines and less free weights.  I normally spin twice a week too but I'm holding off on that until I'm about 12-13 weeks. Just feels uncomfortable right now.

  • Aaaand I gained 2.6 pounds since yesterday morning, just in time for my OB appointment tomorrow, where I'm sure I'll get lectured for my (temporary) weight gain.

I knew this was going to happen.  My weight's been holding steady for a week and then decides to make a big jump right before I see the doctor.  Hoping it miraculously comes back off by tomorrow morning.
