Amazon Mom Diaper Subscription - Do you know about this? Any STMs used it?

So, I have Amazon Prime and learned that, when you're a Prime member, you can get 20% off diapers if you sign up for a diaper subscription. I just had a couple of questions for anyone who has possibly used this service, or knows someone who has. We also have a CostCo membership so I still need to figure out if this saves more money than just getting diapers at CostCo.
1. If you used the subscription, did you like it? Any complaints?
2. Do you think the price was better through Amazon than regular stores, like Wal-Mart and Target?
3. How the heck do you figure out how many to order!? (I'm a STM but my baby turns 5 next month... I can't remember for the life of me how many diapers she used per day/week/month!)

  • 1. I like it a lot, but sometimes (rarely, but it happens) the diapers in the size you want are out of stock
    2. I didn't do any price comps, but it seems like a good price to me.  I am sure you could get better deals if you are a hardcore couponer, or if you are using non-name brand diapers.
    3.  I am no help here because we cloth diaper in the day time on weekdays. :)

  • @acciobaby123 Thank you!! I think I remember Pampers being my favorite, so we'll probably go with that.  I tried off-brand diapers and I feel like they were never the best quality. My hubby checked Costco (he happened to be there right after I posted this) and Amazon Prime is cheaper!

  • We use it and it works out for us really well.  I mean sure, sometimes we come across sales that make diapers cheaper elsewhere, but overall, having a constant 'good' price and automatic shipments (you can adjust how often) is pretty nice.
  • Oh another thing I love it for is
    A) you don't have to lug large boxes around the store and in and out of the car
    B) You can add paper towels and toilet paper and other monthly things to your order for 15% off if you have at least 5 items
  • I'm following this as well. I've been curious about it also, as I've been a prime member for years....

  • I just took a quick look at this. When you subscribe though does it keep sending you the same size? Or do you have to go in and change it?

I was playing around with it and it looks like you have to go in and change it (which makes sense, since you never know when baby will move into the next size). It seems to be pretty easy to change though...

  • Great post!! I signed up for it but wasn't sure exactly how it was going to go.

Another question- when did everyone start their subscription, before the baby arrives so you have some ready to go? Or after so you know what size to get?  Do you get the largest quantity or smaller qty more frequently? Anything else we should add to the subscription? Wipes probably but not sure of there are any other products we need to buy regularly for baby..
  • We've been using it for a year and a half and I love it.

I have a monthly subscription that includes 2 boxes of regular diapers (1 for home and 1 for school) and 4 refills of the diaper genie. Every other month my order includes a box of overnight diapers and a box of wipes. DS is almost 2 and currently wears a size 5. As they get older you tend not to go through as many diapers as say when they are really little and you're changing diapers constantly. The overnights last a lot longer since I usually use 1 or two per night.Other items like diaper cream, bath soaps, etc I usually just pick up at the store as needed.

You usually receive a notice in your email about a week before  your order is about to ship. So if you find yourself needing to change sizes or quantities, no worries you can do that before your order ships.

In the beginning you will likely have a lot of diapers as gifts from friends. I would suggest monitoring how fast you go through those and then create your subscription as you start running low. The subscribe & save shipping is usually about a week, but with the Mom membership everything else is 2 days, I use it constantly.

  • Yes!  This is the only way we purchase diapers.  I'd recommend waiting for baby to be born before you start a subscription.  As a lot of moms will attest, different diaper brands/types work better for different babies, so everyone has their own preference, and you won't know until you try them.  We've always liked Pampers.  I like the wetness indicator for the tiny ones, and they seem to be less blow-out prone for us.

    1. If you used the subscription, did you like it? Any complaints? yes, love it!  I guess only complaint is that you can't adjust the subscription date.  Not a huge deal, though.
    2. Do you think the price was better through Amazon than regular stores, like Wal-Mart and Target?  I didn't do extensive price comps, but the prices are better than the grocery store.
    3. How the heck do you figure out how many to order!? (I'm a STM but my baby turns 5 next month... I can't remember for the life of me how many diapers she used per day/week/month!) When DD was a newborn, we estimated 10-12 diapers needed per day.  We also get a large shipment of wipes from Amazon every 3 months.  That is more than enough!

  • We did it with #1 and loved it, and will definitely do it again. The only annoying thing for me was that it was via my husband's prime rather than my own, so I had to remind him to change sizes, cancel, whatever. (He's a very hands-on dad, but not really a details guy). Make sure whoever has control over the account is the one who's actually paying attention to how many you use, what size, etc.

  • I am super interested in this as well! But my question is, if you stock up on one size, and have, say an extra box of size ones, and your baby is now in a two, can you send them back for the proper size, like you can at Target?

  • For the STMs, how did you decide what brand of diaper to go with?  We're fine with disposable diapers and have no pre-disposed brand loyalty... I just want what works best for baby, contains the mess, etc. the best. I hear it can vary by kid. I currently have a box of NB Pampers, Huggies and Luvs on the registry and am thinking maybe we'll just open a pack, see how it works, and go from there... any tips?  Same question with wipes.
  • @kwilliams3402 be careful how many NB diapers you ask for. All three of the children I have at home went through that size really quick. Two of my kiddos have really sensitive skin so all I could use were Pampers. My oldest was fine with anything so I went with the cheap dollar store diapers lol. I do make my own wipes and would recommend it to anyone as it is better for the sensitive skin and is so much cheaper! Plus mine smell better imo.
  • @kwilliams3402
Pampers were our favorite in the beginning, I especially loved the wet indicator in the front. Once he started crawling, Huggies Little Movers worked a lot better at holding in everything.

  • With my first, I was really rigid about only using pampers/huggies. I tried luvs and hated them. When my dd was daytime potty trained, I thought to myself there is no way I'm buying fancy diapers for her to sleep in.

I tried the HEB brand and was pleasantly surprised at how much I like them but I'm pretty sure the HEB store is only in Texas so it doesn't help as much.
I have also used target diapers and been very happy with them. A lot of my friends however used the Costco brand and I've heard nothing but good things. usually my diapers are between 20 and $0.25 a diaper and every time I have looked at Amazon the average diaper cost more than that.
I would not do the subscription-based things simply because my daughter grew too fast and I found myself going from size ones to two threes very quickly.unless they let you exchange them? but that seems like a pain.
  • Most of you may already know, but if you have a Target REDcard, you can order things online with 5% off and free shipping, plus if you get the wrong size, you can take them into the store and exchange them. Might be good for those of us who find it hard to get to the store and lug those big boxes around with our littles.

  • If you have an unopened box of diapers, most stores will let you exchange the size, regardless of if you purchased it there or not. (as long as it's a brand/qty they sell).
  • Diapers are pretty hard to say what you'll prefer before baby is born. We love Luvs, and on sale at target I get them for $.14 each, using red card and stock up and save discounts. Huggies didn't work for us, but I know that almost everyone I know hasnt like Luvs, especially not for boys. Amazon Prime did not offer the Luvs subscription last I checked and it was much cheaper to buy Luvs at target than Pampers on Amazon.
  • I use it and love it. I think my favorite part is that I don't even have to think about picking up diapers when I'm out at the store. They're just on my porch when I get home!

  • Yes! I don't know how people live without it!!! My DD is 20 mo old and I started using it around 3 mo old for her. I get the largest box option of whatever size she is in a month and then for a while to did overnight diapers - a large box every 3 or 4 months. You also get discounts on repeat items many thing like aquaphor and baby wash and now I'm getting my bio oil and tummy butter too and it's all discounted (and face wash for my hubby)! They will tell you what the most common delivery schedule is for the item you use.

My DD cant wear anything but pampers swaddlers and this was by far the cheapest I could find - even with big box store coupons and sales. I will say when she was smaller I did get an extra case at the beginning at target on sale bc she would go through a bit more then 1 box a month. But since getting in size 3's it's been consistently a box is plenty a month.

You also get prime (free 2 day shipping) on all items you buy from Amazon and free movies - it's amazing and you don't have to take a baby to the store to get it!

@1faceinacrowd I don't use Amazon prime so I'm not help there. I was curious what the other moms were saying. But I did want to tell you just because it still blows my mind. We used huggies and pampers with DD before she was 1. My FIL brought us a giant box of Huggies every month and I loved them. One weekend we were out with my SIL and had forgotten our diaper bag, she has three kiddos and one of them is 5 months older than DD. I asked her if I could use a diaper and she handed me an off brand. I totally rolled my eyes in my mind lol, she's a cheap shopper they just use their money in other ways. So It turned out that the diaper held up great. I was super impressed and asked her where she bought them. It's the Walmart brand Parent Choice. My husband and I can afford to buy huggies or pampers but I'm telling you the Parent Choice are my favorite. I think I pay 19.89 or something for the big pack of 5s and I swear it comes with if not over 100 diapers than 90 something. And their wipes are my favorite too. My daughter goes to an in home daycare and the woman who owns it swears by them too. Just something I've learned and feel strongly about. Diapers are pricey and it's nice to know that there are diapers that are affordable with good leak coverage and dont give my kid a rash.
  • @jacmkelley I can't remember if I tried those or not with my daughter but we are all about experimenting with different brands! I'll definitely be buying a little package to see if we like them.

  • We did diapers and wipes with DD on Amazon Prime and it was really easy. Every now and then Target would run one of their specials where you get a $20 Target card if you buy two boxes of diapers, so that would be cheaper. When that happened, we would just delay a month or two on Amazon. It is super flexbile. We used Pampers Swaddlers throughout with her and rarely had an issue. I know every baby is different, but they worked well for us through all the stages.

You might look into cloth diapering. One of the many perks is never running out of diapers and wipes.
