I wanted to introduce myself...My name is Robin, I am 33, married, and have a wonderful 10 year old son, that my husband adopted when we got married a little over two years ago. I am having a boy (Nolan) EDD March 20.
I have used The Bump as a great source of reading to make sure each of my "oh my goodness is this normal?!" moments are indeed most likely alright or at least common (luckily nothing has been a scare). And when I went through my miscarriage, the stories I read were so incredibly relieving to me. In short, I have been quite the lurker, but have found the links found here and stories told to be extremely useful.
I am not the biggest in social media, but when making my to-do list, a site recommended that I join a birthing group, as well as my best friend, a new mom herself. So here I am. I 100% understand the ideas and apprehensions some of you have about letting those who haven't been a part of the group join the FB group, and truth be told, I am just as uncertain for the same reasons.
But I wanted to offer my hello, and smile, and best wishes to you all! And as a reference, my family is vegan, my husband has his MS in Nutrition, we live in Northern Virginia, have 3 cats and a dog, and I know a crap ton about 90210. So if you feel like jabbering about any of those topics, I hope to have some good insight for you

Definitely not considered active I'm sure! More of a "holy crap my doctor doesn't do any of the stuff every else's doctors are doing" posts. :'( I was too scared of jinxing myself to get involved in the beginning... Then just too damn tired! I will say, being involved in a private FB group that is focused solely on breast feeding, has been extremely helpful. My gf added me to it because I've been so concerned about how to be successful at it! I'm actually more concerned with breast feeding than delivery... Although I can't have true control over either! Anyway, from a mostly lurking FTM, I'll try more to get better involved! I live in Key West with no mommy friends with babies who will be the same age as my little guy.
I don't interact much but am getting better. I am actually due in april but never have gone past 37 weeks so I know I will have a march baby I read alot.... like alot of the threads but by the time I do... what needs to be said pretty much as been.... 4 boys 8 and under.... full time job and hubby... and boy #5 on the way... some female interaction on TB or FB sounds super fun.... Hi everyone, I have introduced myself and tried to be involved as much as possible on here, but I am only partially interactive at this point. I'm more of a lurker and stop myself a lot of times from posting because I'm a STM and don't want to come across as a 'sanctimommy' because I hated that on my DD's board.
Also - I found out I was pregnant about 2 months after I found out that my daughter (at 51 weeks) had Down Syndrome, It's been a very weird year for me and I haven't paid as much attention to this pregnancy as I did with my first. I can't tell you how some of the posts make me feel, because sometimes I don't even know how I feel. I have put a lot of time and energy into my mommy blog and writing about things there.
I am a part of the Facebook group that came about from my DD's board and I love those ladies to pieces. I've met some of them in person and they were the first ones to know about my daughter's diagnosis and they were the most amazing support system I could have ever asked for.
I am on Facebook all day because of my job and would be much more involved there. I would love to be a part of it. Also - I feel better about sharing more personal information when someone uses their real name and picture. I witnessed some women be very mean and rude on my other board because they could hide behind their screen names, but once they were in the Facebook group, things changed.

I do have to say, that there is still another trimester to get through and more people will be more active the last trimester and it's never too late to get to know someone. We are all here for support, to know we're not alone, to share knowledge, etc.

The fb group has already been active for about a month and I would say traffic to the BMB has reduced a lot but mainly because the Facebook members were the most frequent posters here. But I don't think it has fully died down, people still post though maybe not as frequently as before.
Okay, thanks that makes sense! I will still check in once in a while and see what's going on here I think, I prefer the anonymous platform rather than Facebook. Good luck to everyone who is jumping ship though!

OMG ETA: you didn't want moms-to-be to discuss their weight if they were losing or not gaining and you didn't think we should even have the avenue to discuss/complain about the lack of maternity leave even going as far saying basically don't have a baby if you're not ~happy~ with your company's leave policy. I am just going to go out on a whim here and say you would probably NOT like the FB group.

I had no intention of commenting here but your explanation for the weight thread has my mind reeling. How is it misleading to say you've gained 6 pounds when that's what you gained...regardless of baseline weight. Honestly this is why you would not like the FB group, we don't judge one another based on things like that and strive to support each other in our choices, no matter how they vary from our own.

Misleading in the sense that that is probably what that person should gain since they were already overweight in the first place. Not at all comparable to someone of a different body type or situation.
That still isn't misleading. Saying you've gained 6 pounds when you've gained 6 pounds is a fact. Not misleading. Your opinion of what a person should or should not gain based on their pre-pregnancy weight has no bearing on fact. Also, that you believe that you can express an opinion on what someone should and should not gain based on pre-pregnancy weight AND that it would be a welcome opinion clearly illustrates why the group is closed. You can paint your comment in whatever light you like, we think it's kinda crappy. Don't even get me started on your heinous maternity leave posts...
