So today at physical therapy I decided to weigh myself. My next ob appointment isn't until next week and I was curious. Well, big mistake. I've gained 25 pounds. I'm 21 + 4. So now I'm super nervous my ob is going to tell me this is too much. Ugh. Why did I get on that scale!!!! Im pretty petite, 5'4" and 120-125 pre pregnancy. I hope I'm not gaining too much but I was cleared to start my prenatal yoga and Pilates DVDs today.

Also paying my doula deposit today and I am freaking a bit about the cost. Seems like way more than I've seen mentioned on here. They came highly recommended and I really clicked with my team but it's a lot.

Ive been so relaxed lately but now I'm so anxious. I keep hearing my mother in my head telling me I'm going to get fat and that using a doula is a waste because I'm not tough enough to try for natural birth. (The main reason I'm using one is because I do not want my mother around and I think the support will be great).

ugh. I need chocolate and a caffeine free Coke stat.

OK, OK, OK.. you guys convinced me. I will not knock the nose frieda for now, but I think I might make DH try it out first!
I promise that if you can scrape poop off your LO's hinder, sucking snot out of your LO's nose is far less gag inducing by comparison.
I just giggled at my desk and people turned to look. Lol

I had the same doula experience yesterday when I paid my deposit! Most of the ones I have seen people on the board talk about are $300-$400 but mine is around $1200 so the cost is a little scary (especially for H who is just going along with it because I insist). Likes yours though, mine came highly recommended from a friend who is  L&D nurse and my doctor was even enthusiastic about me hiring a doula from that group. I just keep reminding myself that when the day comes, I will appreciate how worth it having her there to help was.
  • @kjo79 I know how you feel. I am 23 weeks and have gained 21 lb total. Things were progressing fine weight-wise, but the number shot up more than they'd like this last interval...so now I'm really trying hard to be more conscious of my choices. They did say, though, that sometimes the baby has a growth spurt that accounts for a bigger-than-average jump some months. But as much as I'd like to rationalize it that way, I know I have been too liberal with the concept of "eating for two." So anyway...you're not alone! And we can get back on track! I'm on day 7 of my new and improved nutrition plan! Still enjoying my food...just not quite so much of it, and choosing healthier options.

  • Bah!  I just caught up.  It's my last day at my job (new job Monday!) and have been slammed transitioning all my work for the past few days.

I have the crazy thread open and READY to dive into when I get another moment to breathe.  As for the nose frieda it grosses me out SO BAD, but my husband does it and works SO WELL.  So, I am a fan, if I am not the one sucking or cleaning it.  :)

    @MeganF08

That's exactly how much mine is. Thanks for commenting. I already feel a bit better. They offer unlimited support via phone and one more in person meeting before birth to go over my birth plan. I think my contract covers 12 hours of labor ($40 an hour over that, due 30 days after delivery) and one pp visit. Everyone I personally know that has used a doula has used this service and raves about them so I'm going for it. My bf is super supportive since I have made him aware of how much pressure this will take off of him in the delivery room. I think he would be great support but I want him to be able to enjoy it and not be so freaked out taking care of me.
  • @parsonsperson YUP!!! Talk about a lucky day!!!!!

@kjo79, I think we paid $1,200 (!!! WTF) for our doula last time. Honestly, it was worth it for our first birth, and we don't feel like we need one this time. We did not end up with a natural child birth (induction with epidural followed by C-section) but it was still totally worth it.

  • Oh my..I'm appreciating my doula prices  so much more right now! Maybe it's regional?
  • @MsBeachNJ those are super cute! LOVE!

My doula is certified (whatever that means) and typically charges $1,200 (NYC). That's fairly standard here, but in less expensive locales I'd expect a steep drop!
  • My doula was $800ish I believe. (Ottawa, Canada). And she is certified. I think that is a normal price range around here
  • I was supposed to meet with a lady to buy her rock n play for like $30. I was so stoked! She didn't show so I went to the mall to drown my sorrows and buy something cute for baby instead and only accomplished eating an entire Cinnabon roll by myself.

I blame the beezy that stood me up.
I would probably kill for a Cinnabon right now. I live in a tiny town and the closest one is over 100 miles away. Le sigh...

I wondered if maybe that was the case. I'm in the Midwest.

They are also certified and do placenta encapsulation. Not sure if I'm going to bother with that yet. It is a little extra $$$

Mine is certified and is actually starting a training programa around here. She is charging $500 with a monthly meeting, meet the OB, hospital for labor plus 2 hours and pp help afterwards. (MS) she is really great and I hope she will help withy stress :) we have so few options down here. There are literally less than 10 midwives and nor many more doulas in the entire state.
  • Why, why, why can't Taco Bell be closer?? Im about to get really sad because there is nothing at my house to eat and I'm so hungry for Taco Bell...

I think Starbucks could rule the world (even more than they currently do) if they delivered. Why isn't this a thing?!

About what I'm paying for mine in Edmonton too
  • @MamaNicoleof3 He hasn't said any of these things but sent straight to H!!!!! HILARIOUS!
  • Totally random and just needed to whine about it... On Wednesday I hit my head on a cabinet while trying to change the garbage bag in our kitchen trash. Swear I thought I cracked my skull open. (Thankfully I didn't; but, I now have a giant lump and a bruise on the corner of my forehead.) I cried hysterically when it happened. And for the last two days I've had the most god-awful headache and off and on fatigue and ringing in my ears. Realized in hind sight I should've gone to the doctor to get checked out because I think I have a mild concussion. Good grief I'm a hott mess.
  • Yeah, @ashleyrobertson0113 I would definitely go get checked out, expecially if you are still having headaches and fatigue. Ringing in your ears? Girl, go call your doctor.

Um yes - go to the doctor.
  • So I just got this text from my mom saying that a local hotel got new beds and they are giving away 22 king size beds. Um, thanks? I've worked in a hotel before and I don't even want to imagine all the nasty shit that could've gone down on those mattresses. I think I'll pass mom.

ha!!! this made me laugh out loud. Totally something my mom would do - meanwhile you'd probably get about 20 stds and ebola.
