So serious question. Found the bed bug nest. Spraying apparently does nothing and I'm tired of being kicked out for the spray. I want to bug bomb. I only have to leave 24 hours and then problem solved, no? My old place bug bombed for spiders so I know what to do after. I am just so worried now that I'm 31 weeks. I checked other site boards for people with similar problems and the only issue was from an extreme anti-chemical lady who would have said no even if the asker wasn't preggo. What are your opinions? Bug bomb yes? I'm sick of bedbugs and I don't want them near my baby. And the only other option is for the landlord to give us a different place but who knows whether or not it is infected too... I don't have time for slow remedies. I need them gone now.
@Bubbles3592 I would call the number of the manufacturer of the bug bomb spray. They usually have a customer service hotline and are required to know the answers to these things. Alternately, you can call poison control if you feel like the manufacturer might be biased. They know everything
So I'm pretending I'm a doctor and pretty sure I can diagnose that DD has rotavirus. For anyone who doesn't know what that is, its a lovely little virus that causes our beautiful sweet children to become extras in the Exorcist, with nasties coming out both ends. In addition to the grossness that is, it also has a ridiculously foul smell. Thankfully, I am at work and DH is at home with her because I only a day of sick time left that I will need for appts. He is taking her to the doctor in a half hour to get her checked out (and probably confirmed for rota, if my mama instinct is correct). So now I have to start panicking because, as I said, I have ONE sick day left. DH has a lot, but he has banked 30+ days that he was going to transfer to me during maternity leave to get paid during my FMLA time off and give me more time with the baby. So now I'm super stressing that he'll either have to use days now, or I'll have to take unpaid leave for appts between now and spring break. And on top of that, it SUCKS when your kids are sick, you just want to cry seeing them so miserable! And I know hos miserable rotavirus is, I was a nanny for triplets and their older brother and they ALL got it...I've paid my dues to this miserableness, why must it strike my kid?
@AEG84 I was going to recommend you read that board to turn your day around after the sad update from your friend. Thought it'd be good for a laugh. On a related note, are you saying I shouldn't name my child Vagi? ;-)
@AK118, it's only acceptable if you spell it Vajji

Will the bomb work on the bed bugs? I have read they are really hard to kill. I agree you should call the manufacturing company or call an exterminator. That really sucks you have those things. I would be horrified!
Honestly I would probably do the bomb because I would never be able to sleep with the bugs and would have such anxiety that it's probably worse than some chemicals. Can't your husband or someone take care of most of the bomb stuff so you can reduce chemical exposure? Is there somewhere you can stay for like a day until the chemicals dissipate?
I won't lie, any kind of chemical extermination or fumigation scares the crap out of me right now. There is a local family that recently had it done (within the past few months) that have been ALL over the news with a lawsuit filed because the company didn't follow proper procedures and their son, I believe he's middle school age?, got some serious brain damage and was (still is?) in a coma for a long time. It was a well known reputable company too.
@Bubbles3592 not to scare you, but I would advise you to do some more in-depth research on different methods to kill bed bugs. My experience has been that they are relentless and just a bomb would not work. Additionally a bomb would allow the chemicals to get all over everything, your sheets, curtains, furniture upholstery, etc. We just helped my MIL deal with bed bugs last summer and it was SERIOUS work to get them out of there and we didn't even think she had a bad infestation. The extermination company we worked with had us pretty much pack up her entire place, move all furniture away from walls, bag or store in bins all of her kitchenware (to keep it away from the chemicals) and she needed to bag all linens and clothes as well. Her closets/cabinets needed to be emptied out and they sprayed a chemical on all the edges of the apartment, the bases and frames of all her furniture, including each dresser drawer, her bed frame, box spring, etc. She needed to leave her house completely for 6 hours, then air it out for 3 more hours with windows open (she also left the apt during this time just in case.) As a backup because it was a hot summer and heat is proven to also kill bed bugs, we ran every article of fabric (clothes, linens, pillows) through the dryer, then put all the bagged items in her car and parked it out in the hot sun for extra heat treatment.
Again, not to scare you, but we had to do this twice because after the first time, we still found a couple of bugs and the exterminator fee covered up to 3 treatments total if the first was not 100% successful. I would definitely find someone like that because it was way cheaper than having had 2 separate treatments.
I would also advise you to look into diatomaceous earth, the food grade kind, because it's pretty awesome and kills everything. It's also non-toxic for you and pets (you can literally eat it) and is a nice backup, safety measure. We also used this for my MIL and just sprinkled it along her baseboards and at the leg bases of her bedframe (it looks like flour.)
Good luck, happy to answer any questions if you want. My DH is awesome with researching everything and he is seriously a bed bug guru at this point.
@bubbles3592 I agree with pp's - bed bugs are no joke. A friend had to throw out his mattress and a couch because they couldn't get them clean after his roommate (accidentally) brought them into the apartment. It's actually against state law to sell mattresses second hand to avoid transfer here. I would seriously look into the new place option and have the landlord pay for an inspector on the place before moving. I know you're stressed about the timing of a nursery, etc. but ultimately the peace of mind and the potential expenses are probably worth not having the nursery you envisioned.
Also, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. It sucks. A lot.

I lived in a complex a few years back that was plagued by bed bugs depending on which building you stayed in. Fortunately I didn't have bed bugs in my building. Unfortunately we had the little house roaches. YUCK. We didn't know this until we moved in after signing a year lease I specifically asked the manager on site about any bugs problems to which all were denied.... ANYWAY, this post is about you not me lol from the monthly bug guys trying to fix our place I asked about bed bugs, and he said yout can try to bomb the place, but in the end you may have to fork the extra money for brand new furniture. But then that brings the question if the bed bugs are in your carpet.
I would definitely call a pest company to get all of your questions answered.
Ok, so update on my daughter. She does NOT have rotavirus (failed me there, mama instinct...!) but rather a really nasty double ear infection that got her to the point of serious throwing up. The doctor said that she must be a trooper because most kids that have infections this bad are screaming in hysterics all night, and she only woke twice and needed to rock for a couple minutes. I honestly don't think I've ever been so relieved to hear "ear infection" in my life. That means it is a) treatable and b) not contagious! So we get some extra snuggles while the antibiotics work their magic, I'll get a day off work this week (since, surprise, I have advanced sick leave available!), and there's no risk to DH, myself, or LO of getting sick too!
Omg! I just found out that a friend of mine is pregnant and due May 16! She *just* found out about a month ago! holy crap!
That's a long time to not know... I know that there are ways to make it so you don't realize you are pregnant, but it always throws me off guard when you don't know that you're pregnant past the 2 month mark.

lol right? Her periods have always been irregular so aside from her boobs hurting (lately) and hip pain she wouldn't have even known.

I cannot imagine how hard it would be to come to terms emotionally with being pregnant PLUS prepare everything in just a few months. Maybe because I didn't get excited until after my a/s, but I feel so bad for anyone who would have to cope with that on top of planning like a psycho to have life in order before baby arrived. I really, really hope she's happy to be pregnant!

Oh I know. I'm still pretty terrified and I've known since like week 5! Plus, this is her first as well as her bf's first. She's 37 and he just turned 41. Totally unexpected.

The lack of time to wrap your head around it would be crazy! My friend with the twins didn't find out she was having twins til the a/s at 20 weeks, and they were born at 31 weeks. So like 15 weeks to wrap her head around having her first baby, then 11 weeks to get used to the idea of TWO babies... and then she had two children. I can't even imagine.

I wish I hadn't known so early (<5 wk) honestly, because time has just been dragging. I don't know if I ever posted this on here before, but my cousin had a legit surprise baby this past fall. She went from planning on never having kids to being a mom in less than 12 hours. Now THAT is terrifying.

I wish I had known earlier simply because I got trashed a day or two before I turned the BFT at about 6 weeks. I only found out because I was counting the days until if start BC again after giving my body a cycle to normalize after a loss. My research says alcohol molecules are too big to cross the yolk sac but I'd never forgive myself if something was wrong. So 12 hours would have me up in arms, looking for issues for the next 3 years.
@AmadorRose I feel the same way, I was on my honeymoon with DH and we were basically drinking all the freakin time and we were invited to a huge party with his friends in Cairo where I got completely hammered; basically drinking almost every day for two weeks. Few days later, BAM bfp. I would never forgive myself if there was anything wrong.
@Knottie9983816 I think I remember you saying you used to be vegetarian, but maybe it was just that your family is vegan. Anyway, we're trying to do more "alternate" proteins like beans and lentils while DD is on a meat strike (plus - cheaper!) but all the recipes I'm finding are for soups or sides. Do you have any favorite recipes with beans as the main protein that are a little more toddler friendly?
I found out the Sunday after my birthday party. SO had lost count on how many Jager Bombs I had to drink as they were 2 for $10 that night. I was shit hammered. I cried when I told him that I probably gave our baby FAS.

QBF
I cried for about 6 hours while I waited for DH to come home from work. Now we laugh about it as I watch my stomach go all alien and we talk about how freaking excited we are for April!
I feel like I'm gonna die. It's almost 1 am over here and I have the biggest craving for pizza. Like I feel every cell in my body is currently crying and I can't think of anything but pizza. But everything is closed so it's impossible for me to find any. I tried convincing my sister of making pizza dough now so I can make pizza myself but she's out of yeast. Help. Me.
@elasticheart13 I make pizzadillas - two tortillas with just a little sauce on them, then cheese, meat in the middle, grilled on the stovetop and dipped in pizza sauce. It's my Mexican-American fusion
Omg...has anyone ever heard of these rainbow bagels? A video of how they're made randomly showed up in my FB feed and I WANT one! It even has cream cheese funfetti frosting! I feel like this is what unicorns eat! But alas, they are only from NYC

Yeah, I felt terrible after my BFP since I was drunk pretty much all of July, since that's my wedding anniversary, DS's birthday, I got a new position at my work, and summer means wine + naked all of the damn time. I also drank for early August because I was depressed about the anniversary of our second loss... I found out a few days after that date that I was pregnant and I had drained a bottle of wine a couple of nights before.
I remember drinking the cycle I conceived DS, too. Not nearly as much as with this little one, but I still felt terrible.

Yes to both of those. I used to be a vegetarian (OMG so many years ago now) And my parent's household is vegan. Other than black bean burgers I can't think of anything off the top of my head... I'll ask my mom tonight though and message you when she gets back to me. (My two nephews 4 and 6 have been at their house for like a year now)
Add me to the list of alcoholics during early first trimester I ovulated on my birthday, the day of which I drank a ton. The whole following week I had a bunch of birthday related outings with different social circles, and I drank on all of them. The next month, I went on a 7 day cruise and bought the all-you-can-drink pass. So I basically spent every day drinking all day that week.
I had no idea I had ovulated, and no idea I was pregnant, because I was on the pill (my epilepsy medications apparently negated the effects of the BC)... So I found out later at 10 weeks pregnant. My only "clue" was some food aversions. Baby looks great though and at my early ultrasounds the egg sac was still very much there so I am thinking I found out early enough that it was still feeding the baby - before it was reabsorbed.
Thank you ladies, my sister ended up using sliced toast with chorizo sausage and cheese. I was so satisfied that I fell asleep right after I ate. I had never craved food like that in my life, it was weird and very sudden lol.
I decided to start hinting to one of my best friends planning my surprise baby shower how busy I would be around the time of the baby shower, indicating there's no way I would be in our home town that time. He cracked and admitted he had been planning my baby shower since November and now he was pissed I told him there was no way I would travel 5 hours away from my hospital when I'm 38 weeks pregnant, I wouldn't take the chance of going into labor in the bus ride and that he should have thought of that. So now they will consider making it in the beginning of March or turn it into a Sip and See. I was instructed to still act surprised so that I will do I feel so relieved now.

@mrstrax DD has always been funny about meat (she's definitely getting better, everything is "chicken") but we did a lot of Greek yogurt, hummus, and peanut butter to get protein in her. She LOVES hummus. Eats it by the spoonful, we even did hummus sandwiches that she devoured. Same thing with Greek yogurt/ Also, cottage cheese has a ton of protein (we use it instead of ricotta in recipes for this reason).
My doctor is going to yell at me at my appointment tomorrow... I've been losing weight. It's probably just from changing my diet, but I'm also panicking and worried something is wrong with LO's growth. I've lost six lbs since my last doctors appointment.

As for solid bean recipes, this is a favorite: https://ohsheglows.com/2011/07/13/our-perfect-veggie-burger/
I use navy beans instead of black though, cause I like it better.
