So im not getting close to feeling how you ladies feel...i dont have previa they say but had my AS on jan 8th and when i went to the doc this last wed she said i have a low lying placenta. Didnt think anything of it until i woke up this morning and was spotting. Went to the hospital and they said baby and me are both ok but now.im nervous to do anything at all. FTM and dont know much about this or anything:( any advice? Im 22w6d...
Sorry you have to go through this!!! It's so scary! Can you find out what they mean by low? It's important to know if it's covering or not or if it's only close to cervix. placenta previa comes in 4 different grades from covering entirely to only being close to cervix. The grade makes a major difference! Try to ring up and find out more and also ask about restrictions you might need to follow. also : remember that placenta can move !
@mumbolino i am most definitely going to call my ob tomorrow and see what her opion is on all of this and what exactly she meant with my placenta because i felt the first time she was very vague which i am not..i like to know exactly whats going on...i am soo scared to wake up to bleeding again and know that some may say its normal but i dont feel in my personal opion that it is... thank you for the help i will be calling my ob first thing when they open!!
I just got back from my appointment but there's nothing new really... Doc was an idiot and I could not really find out anything further. Have to wait for next appointment with better doc and ultimately for ultrasound mid March and possibly more another one later. Sigh. The uncertainty us so nerve wrecking!
Don't think bleeding at this time of your pregnancy is normal so it's definitely best to get clear answers. Good luck @erikalee1876
Why are they making you wait on stuff this far into your pregnancy? Thats so frustrating im sorry you have to deal with idiots like that. Is there anyway you can switch docs all together? Im getting ready to call the office any monute and let them know of my scare hope they have some.feedback...
I will see somebody else next time. Basically the placenta can move and you might even me able to give birth naturally but that often only happens very late in pregnancy. That's why it's done so late ( it would be unnecessary to check every week). So it does make sense. It's just not the nicest wait..
just thought I'd share my update with you, it might be of interest. Of course, this reflects my questions and the opinion of my particular OB, so there is no claim to an ultimate truth here at all, just some potential info.
I finally had a meeting with a great doc yesterday, where I could ask all my questions. I'll just list them (the main ones, I had about 30.... poor doc!) as I asked:
If my placenta does not move, when will you deliver the baby? A: If it's a major placenta previa (grade 3 or 4) it will be week 37, most likely. If it's a minor one, weeks 38, very unlikely week 39... Mine was a bad three, so I have a chance, but "not a good one"....
Do I have to expect a bleed in the 3rd trimester, as I read many people start bleeding? A: Not necessarily. There's no guarantee I won't, but at the moment it's looking ok as I had no further bleed after week 13.
Will I need a general anaesthesia, as placenta is slightly anterior and you might need to cut right through it? A: Hopefully not, this will have to be determined close to the day. If they anticipate massive bleeding, spinal anaesthesia won't be an option as this lowers my blood pressure further. (so fingers crossed i won't need a general !!)
He was happy with all my ideas about gentle c - section and delayed cord clamping (keeping placenta and umbilical cord attached for longer so bub gets all the blood / stemcells ), providing they don't have to cut through placenta!
What can I expect if I start bleeding earlier? A: If I come in before 34 weeks, he will try to keep baby inside at all costs and not deliver, as long as my life is not at risk. If my life is at stake, baby has to be delivered. If baby needs to be born before 38 weeks, they will offer steroid injections so that bub's lungs can mature a bit more. (optional, my decision).
So. That's the main stuff for now. As always, now the waiting game continues...... Until the next ultrasound...
At 20 weeks I was diagnosed with complete placenta previa anterior (it was positioned on my prior c-section scar). I had another ultrasound done at 28 weeks and my placenta completely moved!! yay! My placenta is now positioned posterior (in my back) and is no longer covering or even close to my cervix. Try to stay positive, there is a good chance it will move!
Guys... Fasten your seatbelts... I have given up on a good outcome after another bleed at 29 weeks (and at the scan it was still covering the opening of the cervix). I had a scan yesterday and despite all odds (after the last incident, nobody thought it would still move) it has MOVED. Not just the required two cms out of the way. 6. I was so happy, I bawled my eyes out!!!!
I never thought this was possible. So much stress / worry since week 13!
I am keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for the rest of you!
Yay!! Congrats!! Are you going to wrap your head around a vaginal delivery now?
Thank you @JennyS86 :-) Yup! Totally! :-) It's just crazy because I've nearly ruled it out entirely and focused on a "as good as possible" csection. So now all cards are back on the table! If I ever need up with an emergency csection, I'm surely prepared... But if things go my way? Vaginal delivery all the way! :-) Bring on the books and relaxation CDs!
Re: Placenta Previa Scare....Anyone else?
Just in my way now to find out more from my ob...
