Just wanted to know if anyone has drank castor oil to induce natural labour and your experience or advise please ladies
The amount of times this is getting asked lately is mind blowing. No no no. It's incredibly dangerous for you and the baby and more than likely just gives you the uncontrollable shits.
Two friends of mine tried it. Both of them got a case of diarrhea and one of them got a baby that aspirated her meconium and had to be put in the NICU. Sounds like a great idea!
OP, you really should have searched this topic before posting about it. get ready to be ripped apart, which you deserve for even considering this method.
1. let baby come when baby is ready. we are all uncomfortable & miserable. we all want it to be over with. deal with it & don't be selfish. 2. castor oil is ridiculously dangers to try. it makes you violently sick, which is basically what sends you into labour. it can also cause your LO to have a bowel movement inside of you, & then inhale it. this means a possible emergency c-section & a stay in NICU for baby.
I may have only started posting a week ago, but I lurked these boards for 2 months to learn them before I did. Even a relative newbie like me knows how to use the search feature and subsequently learned from lurking what castor oil even was. I had never heard of it before and now all I see is people asking about it.
DON'T DO IT!!! Let that baby come when he/she is ready!!!!
I just watched the friends episode where Rachel is having a baby and the doctor advises her to drink castor oil. So whenever I see this question posed all I can think is that this episode sparked their interest. I mean friends is how old? Lol

I actually read an article in parents this weekend that said to drink like 2 tablespoons of it, but it also warned to be prepared for explosive diarrhea. I was shocked.
I kind of feel bad for these babies I mean i'm hoping for the best for them but I just worry if the moms are on this level of thinking and considering these types of crazy, rash ideas this can't be good for the little ones
I apologize for my previous comment. I've been a snarky grumpface all day and I think its cause i've gotten to the point in my pregnancy which is at the end and I am just done. I normally would never say something like that so again i'm sorry. That was rude and inappropriate of me. Just please don't take any drastic measures or follow any OWT because its just so dangerous
I feel bad that the person who posted this got so attacked for asking a question. I know someone personally who always went at least 2 weeks past her due date with every one of her kids (she had 5). Once you are that late you don't have much choice but to try to get the baby out. She took castor oil almost every time to induce labor (with her last baby she tried castor oil, acupuncture, herbs, and only the second time taking castor oil she went into labor). She had every baby at home with a midwife, so she wasn't going to have a doctor induce her at a hospital.
Obviously if you are 40 weeks by NO means should you take it. If you are 2 weeks passed your due date and your doctor or midwife says its okay I think that's a different story. Regardless though you shouldn't try anything without getting your Health Care Provider to okay it.
It's even less safe to do this at home and NOT go to the hospital. Clearly you don't understand the risks or I'm assuming common sense would prevail and you would agree.

If your DR or midwife says it's okay, then it's time to get a new doctor or midwife.
BTW - OP didn't get attacked for posting a question, others pointed out that this has been asked and had she done a quick search she would have gotten her answers. Others reiterated that this is a TERRIBLE idea and listed all the VALID reasons why. If you are 2 weeks past due, castor oil still should not be used.
Seriously!? This thread was brought up so someone could be a white knight?! This has got to be some sick joke or maybe a troll. If you are 2 weeks past your due date there are many things that your doctor would recommend to help baby come sooner none of which would be drink castor oil. Like pp said if your doctor or midwife recommends that you should look for a new one who won't endanger your baby

i just want to grab you by the shoulders & shake you & your friend until you get SOME sence. if you are 2 weeks past due, you get medically induced, you DO NOT drink castor oil. your friend is incredibly stupid for trying it & lucky that trying it didnt cause harm to her child.

So, instead of going to the hospital and being induced safely, she tried to induce herself in a way that could have legitimately harmed her baby? Homebirths are an amazing option for mother and baby *if done safely*. In my country home births are an accepted and empowering decision but it has to be a low risk birth needing no interventions. At 2 weeks plus post due date, that only applies if the baby's being monitored regularly and is ok. That being said, I doubt at that stage they wouldn't want to induce.
Using castor oil is not a safe alternative. If the baby had aspirated meconium, which is a real possibility, they would need help to breathe. They could need further treatment. So, no, her only option was not castor oil. Not helpful to OP and I'm seriously side-eyeing your friends midwife.
Re: Has anyone tried castor oil to induce labour
If you want to try to jump start labor... And you're at 40 weeks... Have sex, go for long walks, and eat 7 pineapples.
But avoid castor oil.
