Castrol oil to induce labor?

I need some advice. I have been reading on ways to naturally induce labor and this is one that I am iffy on. Lots of women say it works, but all have different side affects. I already have diarrhea on a daily, so that part would not bother me. My doctor says I can go any day and me and baby would be good, but wont set an induction yet. I am beyond miserable and can hardly sleep, and that's why I am considering this. Please anything helps. Thank you

  • Don't try the castor oil.... basically all it's going to do is make you violently ill. The heaving/tightening of the abdominal muscles is what causes some ladies to go into labor, basically just have a really good orgasm and see if that does anything. P.S. get used to the hardly sleeping part, think of it as practice for when baby is actually here.

  • I would try bouncing on an exercise ball or sex. I would never try castor oil.
  • It works for some ( my mil did this with my husband in the early 80s) but it's incredibly dangerous. I have heard of several stories where it caused such distress and caused the baby to inhale meconium and resulted in Nicu stay with respiratory issues. I know it sucks and it's uncomfortable but just try to wait until your baby is ready.

  • Except there are no actual "good" facts or it would be as accepted as sex and those types of things. I think comparing it to standing on a cliff is actually on point because the terrible risks/consequences that go with the mentioned method can be life threatening to a newborn.

  • If she was as irrational and desperate as someone standing on the edge of a cliff, she wouldn't be researching and asking online about her concerns with side effects of castro oil.
Besides, I stated that there are severe risks involved with it. Unless I know otherwise from prior posts, im going to assume that OP is of at least average intelligence and understands what the risk I stated means.

Even though so many people are against it.... I know 3 people that used it and had their baby within 24 hours. It can cause you to get nauses but I worked in labor and delivery it won't harm you or baby. Also I've heard from moms that have delivered on my unit it worked for them... (i think its just all about timing but if you want to try it and past 39 weeks go for it you might throw it up right away worst case)
  • When I was overdue with my daughter, the midwife actually suggested I go home and drink a bottle of Castor oil. A whole effing bottle. Yup. That's what they recommend you take to induce labor. I was just reading on Kelly mom how this method is considered "Fail proof"

I bought 2 bottles of Castor oil because my Midwife did mention I may have to drink a SECOND bottle, but after I read all the crazy side effects, I just decided it wasn't worth it. In hindsight though, I wish I would have tried this in lieu of a medical induction, which was probably a lot worse than what I would have dealt with with the Castor oil- 60+ hours of labor, that ended in a C-section of my OP baby.  Cytotec + Pitocin is no walk in the park.

  • Castor Oil does not stimulate your reproductive system to do anything (Uterus contracting, water breaking) directly. It puts your digestive system into distress which can cause abdominal contractions to get it out of your system. When your body reacts this violently to something I would NEVER consider taking it. Medical Inductions aren't fun, but there are plenty of "Home Remedies" that have been shown to help bring on labour.

Semen contains the hormone used in induction to loosen the cervix (can't remember hormone names right now) and nipple stimulation releases the hormone that causes uterine contractions. Both of the hormones are used in Medical Induction. These would be the methods I would suggest first.

I left L&D after 6 years to finish school for my masters in nursing 2 years ago. Now im in trauma 1 emergency. Say what you want but alot of babies have bowels when being delivered its not from castor oil. Im the uneducated stupid one? My grammar might not be perfect since after a 12-18 hour night shift ill get home and check the bump out and get sloppy with my typing but hey im 26 with my masters and I am not uneducated. Being a RN you don't sweat the small stuff..... like Castor oil it wont hurt you im not commenting on this feed again to be bashed you are all ridiculous. If your 39 weeks and want to try few sips of the oil and bounce on a ball go for it! About half the babies swallow poop while mom is in labor....it happens. Personally I rather have sex all day once I get to 39-40 weeks to help get the labor going.... But if it came down to it I'd try it. Like I said 3 people i know personally have used it and it worked for them... plus I've seen handfuls of women have babies and say they drank caster oil the night before and they didn't have a single issue. Do and say what you want just find it ridiculously funny how everyone thinks it's so bad for you on here.... I will say these ladies that said they done it didn't drink a whole bottle they had few sips or spoonfuls as they say.

You most definitely should not ingest motor oil. For any reason.
You mean you don't ingest this on a regular basis?!?

This is actually how I plan to get my pre-baby bod back. Too bad I'll be spending my days on the toilet so I won't exactly get to enjoy having a newborn at home, but c'est la vie. I'll try anything for the sake of convenience! And hell, a nurse with a masters says it's ok so I've basically been given the green light to do it!
Days on the toilet, try days in the hospital.  Although MSDS seems to not give any direction.  But the fact that you should call a physician immediately if dangerous quantities have been swallowed.  Please define dangerous quantities...
