One of my students (6th grader) told me not to bend over and pick up a pencil "in my condition" and scrambled over to do it herself. LOL. At least she cared?
From my aunt: Don't lift your arms above your head, because if the cord is wrapped around the baby's neck, it will strangle baby.
When I was pregnant with my first, we did a full house remodel in my 3rd Tri. At 37-39 weeks, I was hauling out chunks of carpet, moving/lifting furniture, lifting heavy boxes, etc. Every day, I was getting the stinky eye from everyone, and them telling me not to lift anything, not to touch anything, blah blah blah.....because it will put me into early labor. Also, that I shouldn't haul firewood (it was in a cart, so I was just pulling it). They all don't want me lifting over 5 pounds, because I will go into labor. Yeah, right. I had my membranes stripped twice with no change, had to be induced at 41 weeks, and then had to have a c-section to get that kid out of me.
The lifting things one is my favorite. I've been weightlifting for five years. I've lightened WAY up (basically lifting what would be warm ups) but still get comments.
09/12/14 BFP (EDD 5/15/15)
10/06/14 US #1 showing baby at 6W1D w/ no HB (rather than 8W4D)
10/13/14 US #2 confirming miscarriage
10/28/14 800mg oral cytotec (very good experience)
I get a lot of general parenting advise of what to expect when the baby comes from random women we don't know. Like what labour is like or how small the baby will be etc. They're always very surprised when we tell them it's our third baby because we look very young.
MIL is constantly saying what to not eat or not to lift too
No one has been giving me crap so far, but DH acts as though every parking lot is a mine field. He's certain I'm going to slip on some ice even though I'm wearing rubber snow boots. Also curbs are potential death traps and I can't take a step up without holding his hand. It's cute but I'm pregnant not learning to walk...
Was told today that we should consider getting rid of our cat because cats are known to lay on babies and smother them. That cat keeps my feet warm at night, not happening.
@noelietrex My husband does the same thing. I think it has more to do with the fact that I have slipped and fallen twice already this pregnancy. Of course both times were inside so not ice related
@Lyssiana I get eye rolls for refusing alcohol too. By friends and co-workers. I have been told "if you were having your baby in Europe you wouldn't worry about having a glass of wine when you want! Your doc would encourage it." Even if that is true, it's my baby, my body so stop telling me what I should be doing!

My SIL mentioned this to me, and that if our cat needed a new home she or the in laws could have him. I calmly responded that we're keeping him, but I'm still overly angry over the suggestion.
I made my dh help me to thr car this weekend. Our drive way has ice on it. I live in Ga, so this is not normal. My New Balance shoes are not ice friendly, but I can't do ice when NOT pregnant. He did not mind.
We have a cat and she is still to this day deathly afraid of my son wont go near him. I would just keep the babies door shut when they are sleeping just in case.. i have heard of cats smothering babies while they are sleeping.. ours never went in his crib but that was the only thing that freaked me out.
1. I can't eat spicy foods because my baby will look ugly if I do 2. I can't climb up onto chairs... ok to be fair, I am very clumsy 3. I can't carry ANYTHING. This includes plates of food, I have to admit that I take advantage of this when it's laundry time 4. I shouldn't be angry because my baby will look ugly 5. I shouldn't talk bad about people because my baby's will have the personality of the person I am complaining about. (If this is true, I am already screwed so I should just go ahead and complain anyway) 6. I shouldn't squat, because you know.. the baby will fall out
DH has seriously scaled back this time around with what things I can't/shouldn't do, but the one thing he's sticking to this pregnancy is that I shouldn't work out at all, except maybe doing some light cardio. I tell him that it's not like I'm doing 205lb deadlifts right now - I'm primarily doing body-weight exercises or lifting 25lb max. He still doesn't like it, but he can deal. With DS I had a threatened miscarriage due to low progesterone, and I was restricted to lifting nothing heavier than a gallon of milk. With this pregnancy, so far, so good, and I have no exercise restrictions, so I'm going to try to keep moving as much as possible. Funny part is, DH has no problem with me carrying DS all around the house/out on errands - DS weighs 30 pounds and doesn't hold on. So... suck it.
@HMcDade1when I was pregnant with DS, I was under ridiculous stress with my job. I was working 16+ hours a day. Everyone told me the same thing. My son was the most laid back baby EVER. So now everyone tells me that this LO is going to be super colic-y and difficult because DS was so easy. Can't win!
My grandparents don't even want me to lift my purse or my 10 lbs dog, yet they know due to issues with them we have to move in the next month or two, and we don't have anyone around to help load our stuff. So who do they think is going to be at the other end of the couch? My husband can't load it himself. I can do it, I was pregnant already when we moved in, and I did it then!

My doctor wants me to have some extra ultrasounds between now and birth. When my father heard this, he freaked out. According to Dad, it's NO BIG DEAL that I might have been exposed to Zika virus on our recent vacation. But ultrasounds ordered by a doctor are super-dangerous, and I am irresponsible for letting a doctor monitor my son's cranial development. Riiiiiiiiiiight.

I guess the US that I had every week to 2 weeks with my 2nd would give him an heart attack.
My DD and the cat play together all the time. We were told that he would suck the air out of her, apparently my aunts cat almost killed my cousin and the smothering thing. He hid upstairs the first 4 months of her life. We were obviously bothering him. Then she started rolling and playing the play gym and he became interested. Now they are friends and play together. She can't pick him up yet so when that happens it may be a different story.

Oh I just remembered that my mom told me not to wear tight clothes because then the baby won't grow. If only tight clothes prevented me from getting fat....
My husband threatened to bring home the winter saftey video from his job for me to watch. All it kept saying was the best way to prevent falling in the winter is to use your brain. DH then fell on the ice 3 times the next day. I told him it was karma and that he was clearly not using his brain. -- side note I am super clumsy normally, he does now hold my hand over icey spots in parking lots and such, its kinda cute.
I have the Ovia app as well, which I love, but today's "bit of information" was about giving up caffeine altogether during pregnancy. Ugh.
I will say I gave it up completely during the first trimester just to be safe, but now I'm making a mug of half-caff each morning before work, because I teach first grade all day.
I'll probably only do this during the winter months more so for the warming effect more than energy, but my doctor told me from the beginning that it was fine.
If you are receiving oral, don't let your partner blow into your vagina. It can potentially detach the placenta and cause an air embolus...and you will die. I thought they were joking, but a brief Dr Google search confirmed it. I suppose I will have to break this unfortunate news to my husband. Although my burning question is...who blows on a vagina like a trumpet?
Wow I read most of these and am kind of surprised! We've been moving into a new house and DH asks me to help him move furniture allll the time, super annoying. He's also very laid back about things i.e. lunch meat, sushi etc. I also have my 1 1/2 year old glued to my hip all the time. Old people haven't told me shit either, maybe they know me too well? IDK @kcossey528 the blow in the vagina thing is hilarious, I couldn't imagine that actually happening lol

@soberkfell My DD is so easy going too, I think my entire family is actually hoping and praying this LO is a complete terror just so I know what it's like!
