@caitlincunn my LO seems the same way. Not really sure how to know if she's getting enough milk since I'm mostly breastfeeding. I don't know how to tell if your milk is drying up other than less production when pumping. My supply has gone down after I was sick for a couple weeks & I don't feel engorged at all anymore or leak at all. I don't have too much frozen milk, maybe 150 oz. My LO tends to eat 7-12 oz while I'm at work but I'm only pumping 5-7 oz right now while I'm away. May have to start with formula at some point. I'm going day by day here.
Less production when pumping may not mean you're drying out. I was never, EVER able to produce for a pump but I was still producing something. Women on my local bf page have also report producing less for a pump but still their babes seem to be happy on the boob. I dunno, breastfeeding was half a fail for me, so I really have no wisdom to offer - except support that producing less for a pump doesn't mean the end
@upandbelow maybe you just need to find the right formula. Maybe ask your pedi's office if they can give you some samples? Also, you know they tell us when we are trying purées that if they don't like something at first to wait a little bit and try again at least a few more times, sometimes they decide to start eating something the third or tenth time they try it.
Thrush has been confirmed but LO doesn't have it. The worst part is I've probably had it since Thanksgiving. I had no symptoms other than decrease supply and pain/discomfort pumping. And it didn't become really painful until I had a milk blister. Now I'm probably on the last few weeks of breastfeeding. Thrush sux, yo.
@mellymar that was just a guess on my part. I really don't know. I assume since I used to get more when pumping and I'm not getting engorged anymore like I was that my supply has probably dropped. I hope LO is still getting what she needs though.
I read that pumping production/leaking/letdown doesn't tell you about your supply. It's so hard to tell though since she won't drink out of bottles, so I've never known how much she has had at one feeding. We're going to the doctor Thursday for more shots so I'll ask then and maybe do a weight check a week later depending on what the dr thinks.
I'm really struggling with how to continue feeding LO solids. I feed her pre made purrees because I'm a bad mom but don't know how to progress into real food. She chews and doesn't gag.
You're doing just fine!
We've got their whole lives to get them on "real food." Don't worry that you're not there at 6/7 months. She'll be ok.
If I recall correctly, you were pretty worried about her rolling over. That turned out ok. Food will turn out ok, too.
I love this! Its so true! I haven't yet heard of anyone later struggling in life before their parents didn't introduce food properly. Go with your instincts and you'll be ok
The past three days LO has seemed to get a handle on this finger food thing. Yesterday she scarfed down chicken, brisket, pulled pork (all without the sauce), collard greens, mac and cheese, corn bread, and a handful of puffs while we were out to lunch. Today after nursing she loved Apple toast. I just smeared applesauce on two sticks of toast, and she gobbled it up.
Awesome @cait7425 !! We had pulled pork the other day. Yesterday though we finally did banana. We left peel on and cut off the hangy bits so there was a handle. Cut in half so two shorter pieces. He ate all of it and licked the tray
Anyone's LO just not that interested in solids? Will be 8 mo next week. She likes puffs, we know when she hates food, but she really doesn't get too excited over any purree and would rather chew on the handle of the mesh bag than what's inside.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
@dancegurl1118 Mine was very indifferent to purees and finger foods even before she quit eating anything because of teething. Then just yesterday I gave her her first baby food pouch and she downed it and had two more today. It's crazy because she won't suck on a pacifier or bottle nipple at all but she's very into sucking pouches apparently. Maybe yours would be more interested in a pouch, too.
Hi again- I've been so out of the loop for the past few months. A few questions:
1. How many times a day are you giving your LO solids? My guy (8mo) loves food and eats 3x a day, plus gets 4 bottles of BM a day. Is that ok?
2. Does anyone's LO still spit up? Mine spits up a little bit after every bottle. Usually 10-20 mins after while he's crawling around. I though by now he would outgrow it but there seems to be no end in sight.
@kristenk727 The important thing at this point I think is that LO is taking as much milk/formula as before solids. Other than that it doesn't matter. We do one meal a day right now but will increase in a month probably.
We give her about 2 "snacks" worth of solids a day (she refuses to take more). She hasn't gained much weight in the past month so we're really focusing on the BM (she still eats every 2 hours about).

@dancegurl1118 my guy doesn't love any solid but one - pears. I've made all kinds of things and he just doesn't get too hyped about it but I just keep shoveling it in. Also he hates any kind of cereal (flavored or not)
And here's why I keep shoveling it in.... Everyone and their mom says "eventually he will love food" lol
My kid still spits up. Not every time, and maybe more lately due to his cold. But especially if he fills up on "solids" then wants to nurse for a nap. It's usually if he hasn't burped, but not always.
He's fine. Healthy poops and eating (breast milk and real foods). I'm not worried. But if you think you have reason to be concerned, ask your doc @kristenk727
She had an allergic reaction to carrot puree last month, so I have been hesitant to introduce new foods. She has been eating about 1/2 of an organic egg yolk, boiled and mixed with breast milk, every other day or so (when I remember) since her reaction to carrots. Egg yolk contains easily - assimilated iron and choline, among other things.
EBFing for the most part. I can't believe how much puree some of you ladies feed your babies! Solids are a pain in the ass -- messy and time consuming.
...but then again, LO's top teeth are coming in and she bites hard. We might be increasing solids soon.
I think she was asking because you referenced specific nutrients in the egg yolk and were perhaps suggesting that people are feeding their kids too much ...... @wheresilenceismusic
@virginiaunicorn11 -- No. Why do you ask? Are you one? Or are we both just mothers, trying to do what's best for baby?
Slow your roll, girl. A question about being a nutritionist is not an attack on you. It seemed a valid question given the content and tone of your post.
I think most women are following the direction from their ped to do purees. Mine personally says 2 a day. I think you should mind the way you pull the "You ladies" comment. It sounds very judgey.

Agreed. Especially since my LO is almost two months older than yours, so I'm feeding him a totally appropriate amount of solids for his age. A month or two ago, we were all slowly introducing purees also, so don't be surprised if we're not enthusiastic about your criticism of moms with older babies.

Well considering that my baby doesn't sit, I will very much continue to feed him purees. I can't believe some people feed babies eggs but I tend to keep that to myself and not openly judge mothers for their educated decisions. If you haven't noticed we in fact are eductated and try very hard to do what's best for our babies here. I honestly don't recall anyone asking if they feed their baby to many purees?!?
@wheresilenceismusic My kid is 7 months old and gets purees twice a day, lunch and supper. 2 containers each meal, a veggie and a fruit. I don't find it to be a pain at all. He enjoys it and I love watching him try new things. Our pedi said there's no magic number and to stop once he acted full. He gets 24 oz of formula a day as I unfortunately was unable to breastfeed as my milk never came in enough to get him enough. He tried baby mum mums last night and really enjoyed them. There is no reason to judge what or how much we're feeding our kids. It's one thing to ask questions, but I agree with pps that the you ladies is very rude.
LO has taken one container of purree once. Other than that it's a few bites before her mouth is shut tighter than Fort Knox. It's not for lack of trying, I'd love to be feeding her too much.

My doc said 'breakfast, lunch and dinner' so we do purrees at lunch and dinner. Breakfast tends to be some steamed fruit or veggie in the mesh feeder. Don't ask me how much I feed her because I don't keep track - she eats until she's full. And trust me..she's clear about when she's full, the stains on my shirts prove it
Sorry if this was discussed in a different month... my LO (7 months) is refusing to drink from a bottle, and I'm going back to work so he'll be needing to go to daycare soon.
He's been EBF for the most part. He has had occasional bottles of both BM and formula from day one (usually fed by someone other than me), with the most recent successful bottle (formula) being about a month ago after we moved. We recently moved overseas, so I don't have a BM supply and I stupidly last minute snail mailed my pump, and it has yet to arrive here.
So we have tried the same formula and bottles he's taken before, and he is refusing to even suck on the nipples. At first we thought it was teething related (has two bottom teeth), but he's not even attempting to chew on them. We have several different brands of bottles and nipples, and he has refused all of them. I tried putting him in hourly care to test the waters, and the daycare lady said he vehemently refused the bottle from her and I had to go pick him up (couldn't feed him puree because I was a dumb a and didn't fill out the form correctly).
My next step is to try a different formula (I'll try the Similac suggested in this thread), but does anyone have any other advice for getting him to take the bottle? I've tried holding him in different positions, letting him hold it, different times of day, when he's hungry, after BFING, different locations in the house. Nothing
(I did search to see if this had been discussed but did not find anything relevant. If you know of a discussion, please let me know! )
we're doing finger foods over here! Saw my ped today and he said To keep it up! He said to give fish, peanut butter, and eggs the sooner the better. So I did peanut butter today. We've done eggs already. He said to give him whatever we are eating, seasoning and all, so long as it's soft. We give him 2-3 "meals" a day and he wants consistent 3 meals a day by 9 months. Sometimes LO will eat a lot and sometimes he just takes a couple bites and is done. I don't worry about it.
