@MNturnsVA hello from sept 15! i found what to expect to be not very useful. I just used the bump weekly info for things and google. I really loved Ina Mays breastfeeding book it was full of great advice and what to expects and the tone of the book was educated.

I want to second this. Or something like that... I never bought What to Expect during my first pregnancy because I'd heard that it covers so much that it's terrifying. Like playing with Dr. Google, if you will. The Mayo Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy was recommended to me, and it's nice. But like PP mentioned, most of what I read in it, I already knew from The Bump and my pregnancy app.
I'm trying to enjoy this feeling of "doesn't feel like anything's happening in there" because being in the throws of the first tri can be pretty awful (tired, gassy/bloated, nauseous, etc). I'm working on some very early spring cleaning and decluttering... it feels great!

And I'm so glad that there are others who are POAS because I had been gifted a bunch of Wondfo's by a member on here when I first started on these boards. Well I got them back in May? I think they expired in Aug? But guess what- this crazy lady counted how many there are left and there are 8- just enough to get me through the next 2 weeks at 2 tests a week (give or take) till our first appointment 1/29. ha ha ha
What to Expect When You're Expecting seems to be most useful when used as a reference guide. Reading through the sections that apply to you, skipping the ones that don't, and having it on hand to look things up. I would definitely not read the entire book, and my OB has specifically disagreed with things that it said (example: it says drink orange juice with added calcium; my OB says "don't drink juice, it's full of sugar.")
I also got the Mayo Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy but since I've read through What to Expect, I've been a bit slow about reading through it, too. (I hit the information overload point after a couple weeks of reading!)
I thought What to Eat When You're Pregnant: A Week-By-Week Guide to Support Your Health and Your Baby's Development was a waste of money. It goes over nutritional information that is covered in every other pregnancy book, then it just gives you a food that you should eat more of each week of your pregnancy, which between the nausea and just routine dislike of certain foods (I'm not eating sardines, ever) just seems like a set up to fail (and to feel bad about not eating what you should be).
I ALMOST said yes to a drink with a friend tonight! That's how not real it's feeling for me. It hit me like 2 minutes into the convo and I was like, "ummm oh yeah I forgot I have to get home to the cable guy!" WTF?!
I'm also confused as it took us so long to finally get pregnant that I thought it would be the ONLY thing I thought about. I can't wait to start showing and when I'm able to actually tell people! Then maybe it will feel real.
Last night I was thinking about my work party that I have on Friday and about having a drink. Yeah, I am an idiot. It really doesn't feel real yet though because my period isn't suppose to be due until Friday and I got an early positive. My first two never felt real either though too until my dating ultrasound since I really didn't have any early pregnancy symptoms. I really don't have any pregnancy symptoms this time either except for fuller breasts. I do have fatigue I guess, but my three year has also been up in the middle of the night for the past week.

Love the idea of sharing books. I'm one of those people who likes to research EVERYTHING.
