So there was a high speed police chase while DH was on his way to work. The road he was on is a country road with only one lane going each direction... Apparently the four cop cars almost hit DH, DS, and my MIL trying to catch this guy.
@AmadorRose@thaisac1 we don't allow our two cats in our bedroom, we have always had a closed door policy however so they're used to it. Maybe a no cat policy in the nursery? I will be putting a pack n play in the living room for naps so I'm either throwing a sheet over the whole thing or packing it up every time because my boy cat turns everything into a cozy nap station.
@yodiggity starts with UO from 1/5, then there's a couple of thread-police response ones, including one with twatwaffles in the title
@thaisac1 our cats will absolutely scratch at the door, but there's no way I'm letting them in our room while baby sleeps in our room. Simba would acknowledge something warm and in a box-shaped thing and baby would suffocate. They'll get used to it eventually.
Oh...my...word...I think I'm going to have a panic attack. I'm pretty sure there are rats in my classroom ceiling I have been hearing "things" running around for weeks now above me, but I just assumed it was squirrels running on the top OUTSIDE my room. But when I mentioned it to another teacher she said they have found things in this room before (dead things...I honestly don't know which is worse) and at other times have been displaced from this room for weeks due to things dying and NOT being able to find them. And I definiteily mentioned on here a bit before Christmas that I walked into my classroom and it smelled like something had died...

Ugggggghhhh if there's one police practice I hate, it's the high speed chase. It endangers bystanders and other drivers on the road, and it's almost never actually necessary. Shy of knowing that the driver has a hostage who will certainly die, or that they've just been involved in a drive-by-shooting or something, you take the license plate number, let them go, and cut them off further down the road or just figure it out later. Chances are good they're not going to be speeding up if nobody's following them No stolen car or person fleeing a traffic ticket is worth speeding down residential streets at 70 MPH and hitting children playing in the street, or driving recklessly down the highway and causing a wreck. Glad your family is OK!

I'm not seeing anything in the news about it, so it's probably just some schmuck who was speeding that they were chasing.
I'm having the same struggle with the cat situation. Both of them sleep in our room, in the bed with us, but we're going to have the little dude sleeping in the pack n play next to the bed for a few months at first, so the cats will have to sleep elsewhere. My poor Gretchen has slept with me every night for 6 years. She's going to be heartbroken (as will I).
I'm REALLY hoping that my cats will want plenty of distance between themselves and a noisy new baby so that it's more their choice to stay away...I know simba will just sit outside the door and cry if he wants to be in our bed.
@AmadorRose@NOLA520 I saw on another post someone saying about leaving a hospital blanket with the baby's smell on it in the house (ideally before you come home) so they acclimate but that's about all I've heard regarding tips. Most people seemed to report their cats disinterest in general, which is what I'm hoping for!

I think that post was actually done by me!
At first, we kept DS's door closed to keep the cats out, but it became apparent early on that they were not going to be near him unless it was under supervision, and at a safe distance. The cats like being in the crib when DS isn't there, which is fine now. Before he was born, we wouldn't let them do it at all, so I think they knew better than to go sleep there when humans were around once there was an official occupant. My cats love the changing table. One cat in particular sits there and now watches DS most of the night.
And just because I can: here's some baby and kitty spam!
@NOLA520 My ILs have three orange cats at their place. One is actually our cat's sister and another is their uncle. Link (the orange cat) likes DS a lot more than Harley (the black cat). Out of the two, we had to fight Link the most to stay out of the crib before DS was born. Afterwards, Link did a pretty good job of keeping his distance unless DH or myself are around. Now he curls up with DS for naps, but only if we are still in the room when he gets there.
@fbanke42 Yay for kitty photos! So cute! I can't wait to take pics of my cats with my baby! Overall, I'm not too worried about cat hair and whatnot, and my cats are pretty well-trained. But when we moved 4 years ago, my cats definitely acted all weird for a good week in the new place so I'm going to be using your blanket-baby-smell tip for sure!
Our charming vintage apartment has charming ancient plumbing, and our charming vintage kitchen has been experiencing some charming smelly clogged drains. Husband brought home enough Drano to clear every clog for the rest of our married life... and now that I've used as much as I need for our pipes, there's a part of me that kinda wants to pee on it. You know, gotta make sure my ultrasound technician got it right.

I kept dreading the idea that they got the sex wrong the entire second half of my pregnancy. I had already bought things with DS's name on it.... The good thing about ultrasounds now is that they are a lot more accurate than they used to be. Also, they stopped just looking for a penis or lack of one to determine the sex. Now they HAVE to also see testicles in order to say, "yup, you're most likely having a boy," or they look for lines to indicate a vagina along with lacking testicles. A "penis" does not mean boy. Things get engorged in there, so you may actually be seeing a very swollen and erect clitoris. Or even part of the umbilical cord.
Is there a reason to worry with cats around the baby and the baby being allergic to the cat? I am not really sure when allergies start, but I am allergic to cats (and lots of other things) and I live with a cat so if my baby gets allergies too will it affect him right away?

Allergies are a result of an immune response and a child is probably less likely to have an allergy to cats if he or she is exposed to them early on. Studies also show that furry family members actually improve a baby's immune system. The best way I can relate it is this: doctors used to recommend waiting a couple of years to introduce peanut products because of the intensity and prevalence of peanut allergies; however, they have since found that introducing peanuts or peanut butter and a younger age resulted in fewer children with peanut allergies. I don't know for sure that your child won't have cat allergies, but I deduce that it would be similar to the peanut example.
@RoseShadow873 Yeah to echo what PP said, exposure theory is the most prevalent today. It's the same with pollens, when you go to a new city and suddenly get insane sinusitis because you've never been exposed to the local allergens. Allergy shots even work along the same lines, slowly delivering small dosages of the allergen over time to build immunity. You'll want to keep the room very clean of hair, and keep your A/C filters changed regularly, but as long as you keep the cat away from the baby until you know for sure he/she isn't allergic (and don't let it nap in his laundry or anything like that), you'll be able to play by ear without endangering your child.
My dad just asked if DH and I have started looking at places... Right after he made some snarky remark about me not being able to afford anything. I'm stressed about my financial situation as it is, so reminding me that I not only can't afford things but also have to start forking out $1000+ in rent soon is not helping me... Especially since yet another medical bill came in today... It's only $50, but that's $50 that could have gone towards a different medical bill or towards a deposit on an apartment.
No... Just scary that grown women have the capacity to act like that. Also should mention how pleased I am that when a similar discussion came up on one of our UO threads we handled it gracefully and respectfully.
@AGK2015 I blame you for my dream last night... I dreamed that the ultrasound tech got LO's sex wrong and that I gave birth to a girl instead of a boy.
This kid is seriously doing some yoga stretches today. I keep feeling her kicks at the top of my belly. When I push back, she's stretching and I can feel her pushing on my hand! I've never felt her at the top of my belly before. It's usually on the side or vagina punches.
This site and app are seriously broken ALL the time! What is going on?? I have avatar and posting errors on the website (via PC) and error messages non-stop on the phone app. I was just talking to my friend who I met in 2004 through an online runners community and it made me think - that site in 2004! didn't have the issues this one does.
DH picked up some body butter for me last night (wild Madagascar vanilla scented - winner!) at Bath and Body Works and it is so wonderful. So much nicer than the Palmers stuff I used with DD. Plus pretty much the whole store is 50-75% off right now.
Is it bad that I'm super pumped up for this weeks UO just to prove to M16 that we aren't a bunch of crazies like them?
Edited, because I forgot to say "like them." We're crazy over here, just not "I'm going to shank you for that comment" crazy.
I'll plan to include all sorts of fire-starter comments, like how I ate raw milk cheese AND sausage this week!

Now just watch, you'll have jinxed us, and this will be the week that someone actually manages to post something so unbelievably outrageous that the whole board implodes and the ladies of M16 get to rubberneck us for a change. I just can't imagine what it would be... I feel like we've managed to touch on some really sensitive topics here (vaccines, abortion, Syrian refugees, strip clubs, Donald Trump) without screaming at each other. Somebody announces they're a neo-Nazi maybe? Or a Nickelback fan?
