Cloth Diapers

Re: Cloth Diapers

  • @RedMar I personally do diaper only laundry, just for sanitary purposes. I use a home made detergent that is made of washing soda, borax and grated sunlight laundry bar. I also add vinegar to the softener and bleach compartments and 5 drops of tea tree oil. These help disinfect, soften and remove smells. I run a "whitest whites" load which is a hot wash with an extra rinse.

The only thing I will be changing this time is I will order some bac out. I have an he front load washer and had a really tough time stripping te diapers when they needed it. Nothing ever really worked so I'm going to try the bac out to see if it helps with smell.

  • @MNturnsVA - CD kids actually tend to PT sooner because they don't have the wicking materials of disposables so they feel the wetness more. Not my kid though. She'll be in diapers until college.

A sprayer attaches to your toilet and is used to spray solid poop off. It's not needed until baby starts solids because BF and FF poop is water soluble. I never got one either. I just dunk and swish.

    2. I cloth diapered from about 4 weeks on? I didn't start right away because my son unexpectedly came 6 weeks early and I hadn't intended on using newborn cloth. Since he was so tiny I decided to give it a shot and went with Blueberry simplex newborns. They were awesome and I can't wait to use them again. I only had 12 last time because I wasn't sure if I'd like it. I've slowly been building my newborn stash to double it before the next one comes because I'll have a toddler, too, and diaper laundry every day doesn't sound appealing. They fit until he was about 15+ pounds but outgrew the length.

  • I CDed with my DD and loved every second of it. I'll order a ton of diapers once I hit 12+ weeks. I plan on using my income tax money to splurge on diapers. ;)

There are so many different kinds of diapers. If you haven't had a LO yet I suggest getting a trail from a place like Jillians drawers to try them all out. It all depends of preference and how the fit your LO. I loved my Grovia and Apple cheeks.

  • @MNturnsVA ... I'm not ignoring your post. Im just super busy this weekend and I want to make sure to give you the right resources and so forth. Hopefully, I will be able to tomorrow!
  • I *technically* part time cloth diaper. I just have a few that I put on DD after I'm fairly certain she's done having any BM's and we're in for the evening. It cuts down on the disposable diaper usage, but I can generally throw the the diapers in with the regular wash.

It's a good balance for me.

  • I brought home the sposies from the hospital when I had my first and when they ran out, we went straight to cloth.  He was 10lb, 1oz though so he fit the OS no problem.  I have a great stash from him (he's 2 now) so I'm hoping to potty train him before this one comes so I don't need to buy any more.  He turns 3 at the end of October so i hope he'll cooperate.  Worst case I'll have to do laundry more often.  When I was a SAHM, it was awesome.  When i went back to work full-time, it was hard to adjust to the laundry cycle.  Biggest thing is, if you 100% bf, no formula/no food, you can toss poopy diapers straight into the wash.  That was a life saver.  I rinsed at first because it grossed me out, but that stopped real fast.  I think as long as you find a brand that works well for you, you'll have no problems.  I loved it.
  • I recently found a love for AIOs. Anyone have recommendations for AIOs that are BF poop and toddler worthy?

Only have one of each but love BG Freetimes and Diaper Junction's brand.

I've gotta disagree. We did the dunk and swish for the first few months and when we got the diaper sprayer it was heaven, even for BF poops!
  • I clothed diapered my first two starting when they hit 10 lbs.  I have Bum Genius 4.0 pocket diapers. I still have my stash of about 40 diapers, but I am considering selling those and getting AIOs.  I never invested in a diaper sprayer since it never really bothered me dunking them in the the toilet.  Plus, I didn't need to until after 6 month since I EBF.
