I know this is early but.. Double stroller suggestions anyone?

I know this is probably way too early to be debating, but I always end up taking months researching and deciding on the big ticket items... Any STM+ know of some good double strollers for infant+toddler? I'm looking for one with a bassinet option rather than a click+connect but most (like the bugaboo) that offer these combinations are super pricey.

  • I have friends that swear by the city select, and that's what we'll be getting :)

I've heard good things as well but can only seem to find a bassinet that works with their tandem options. For some reason I imagine a side by side to be easier to maneuver but that might just be my imagination..

Side by sides are har to maneuver in aisles and through some doors. You can also get the car seat adapter.

I have used mine for almost 3 years. I'll answer any questions!

You can steer it one handed! That's a major plus.

  • I love the city select. I also have the glider board attachment for the back for my oldest (4). The side by sides can be really wide and the ones that are more narrow usually don't have the bassinet feature.

  • My girls are 22 months apart and I've had a few double strollers through yard sale flipping. We started with a side by side bumbleride indie twin and I loved it. Then the next summer we traded to a joovy caboose ultralight sit and stand (which I also loved) and a double Bon revolution which is the best for long walks / jogging. Mind you I got all of these strollers very used. I have heard mixed reviews about the city select. Seems like people either love it or hate it. I have no experience with it.

That is for sure a plus! Do you feel like you can see whoever is sitting in front pretty well still?
  • @crispy11 mine will be 25 months apart so super close! I looked into both bumbleride and joovey even though I forget the names of the exact models I looked at. Joovey seems like a great deal (which naturally also makes me worried haha) so I'm glad to hear you had a good experience!

  • The joovy ultralight sit and stand is so light and easy which is amazing for double strollers. It worked out well for us when my girls were 1 and 3. My first turned two in the summer and she wasn't quite ready to stand on the stroller (I'm assuming), but the next year it was perfect.

  • We have a city mini double. I've never had any issues getting through doors or aisles. Obviously some places aren't stroller friendly in general so it's not going to fit everywhere. It's cheaper than the select so that's what we went with. Most of the time though (in the early days) I would wear the baby and use our single stroller.

Uppababy g-link is a new one on the market. I'm going to try to get away with a wheeled board on our single but I'd probably get the uppababy if not.

Mine will be 25 months apart as well! I was just thinking about this a little bit today. The list of things I'll need to buy is short, and this is one of them. I'm back and forth between getting a cheap/used one or going all out. If I baby wear more I may be able to get by with a cheaper double that would only be used for specific occasions. If we got a nice double, how long do you suppose it would be before our big kids could use a boogie board attachment? I have a city mini and could attach the board to that, but I think a 2 y/o would be a little young to rely on that alone.

    Ah, baby gear.

@KimmySchmidt I have a short list too but am sort of enjoying being able to plan exactly what and when I'm buying everything since there's no shower to account for (not that I wasn't super grateful for my shower). I also figure I can justify spending a bit more on a few quality items since we need so little.

One of my friends has this and said the same thing! Of course we live in Florida and for whatever reason it seems like all the doorways/ halls are pretty wide. I honestly mostly need a stroller for grocery shopping and theme parks. I wore my son a few times but the thought of wrapping one and pushing the other seems daunting.

  • @whitneylux I've had my eye on the city select since before I got pregnant. My DD will have just turned 3 before this baby arrives. How bulky is the stroller as far as fitting in the back of your car? Also, is it fairly simple to assemble with the attachments to make it a double?

    I ordered this stroller.

I liked all of the options - 12 different riding positions, and the weight limit is 50 lbs, which I also liked. I ordered it and got it less than a week (which is truly surprising since it takes us at minimum 7 days to get stuff here). It's sort of heavy, but it's easy to fold, it stands upright when folded (which I really like so I can still push it and not have to carry it). The basket is HUGE. I looked around a lot, and just didn't feel that anything met our needs like this one. It's going to be incredibly helpful for international travel by myself.

I've played around with it at home, but my first time using it will be next week in airports. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

ETA: It is pretty bulky, though. In order to fit it into my car, we'll have to fold a seat down. But then again, I'm driving a very compact 2 door. For general outings, I'll probably just wear LO and DS pretty much walks.

You can have them both face you if you are really worried. The seating options are what sold me on the stroller.

@JLmama118 it's not the lightest stroller but I had a CS with DD and I could still lift it into my car. I since switched to a SUV and when I use it as a single it can be folded up with out taking it apart. As a double I remove the front seat. I also have a 4 1/2 year old SS he can still fit in a seat (46 lbs) but he mostly uses the glider board. (Yes, I'm going to use it as a triple!)

I use this stroller constantly (we lived downtown buffalo NY last year) it would haul groceries and two kids through snow and ice.
We also go to Disney weekly. I see a ton of strollers.... People stop and ask me about the city select a lot!

I suggest going to push one for yourself. Like at BBB. There have been a couple more strollers that have the same kind of options but if you will heavily use a stroller I highly suggest the city select.

  • My little ones will be about 21 months apart when this one comes.  Planning to use the strollers we have and wear little sweetpea to begin with... probably won't look into a really nice double stroller until the Spring since we don't do long walks during Maine winters.  Right now I use a Thule jogging stroller - not sure what I'll do for jogging when this babe arrives!!

Can anyone with a city select tell me how it does in te snow? We went with a city mini GT for the bigger wheels and I wasn't thrilled with how it performed. Now I'm really nervous about how the select will hold up. I live way up north so my stroller has to be able to deal with snow and subzero temperatures for over 6 months of the year. I also have a walking group and we do a 5k walk at least once a week. I love the idea of the select but I'm concerned. My other option at this point seems to be a chariot. I know that will work but I hate the price and how long it takes to set them up.
  • Oooh Chariot, that's owned by Thule now.  Maybe that will be my big splurge for #2, as we don't anticipate needing a whole lot else!

  • Just sold my uppa baby Cruz recently so I can have money towards a double . After a week of looking and comparing I'm in love with contours options elite. I like it the most because u don't have to have both kids with you in order to use it ! And the basket option is awesome for shopping !
  • Will I even need a double stroller?? My DD will be 3 when this baby is born....not sure I want to spring for the $600 stroller if I won't need it...

A sit 'n stand might come in handy, but that depends entirely on you. And there are several stroller options that are $200 or less. You definitely don't have to shell out that much if you don't want to.

Honestly, if it weren't for international travel (and doing it by myself), I'd just stick with what we have. Since that's not the case and I'll need extra space, I opted for one. I'm willing to bet I'll use it not as frequently.

@whitneylux thanks! Any issues with the brakes? We had issues with my mini last winter. The brake line runs along the back wheel axel and it gets snow in it which freezes so the brakes didn't work unless I brought it inside and defrosted it. Don't want to spend $600 to have the same problem :(

I live in Canada so I'm no stranger to snow... I don't find the City Select is very god in the snow at all to be honest.  It's not so bad with just one kid on it but once I have two or more it becomes really difficult to trudge through the snow around here anyways, though maybe our sidewalks just aren't plowed all that grea here. I've never had that issue that you are talking about with the brakes though.

Thanks! That's what I'm worried about! I'm in Northern Ontario so there is snow on the ground from October till May :(. I don't know what we'll end up doing. I already have a baby trend car seat so I like the idea (and the price) of the baby Trent eclipse stand n ride. Seems like it would grow well with the kids. I know the expedition is good in the snow but the eclipse has te stupid small tires again!

DH asked the same thing, DD will just be turning 3. Even more reason for me to confine get and baby in one stroller. I don't want to have to wrangle one or hold hands while pushing the stroller. At times where I'll be on my own, especially in public crowded places I will want them in the stroller.

This is exactly why we were talked out of getting something that converts to a double in the first place. We talked to friends and they said that by the time the second comes along, the first doesn't want to ride in a stroller anymore anyway.

I'm only questioning that now because DS will have barely turned two and it will be snowy within a couple of months and I don't see dressing and having a two year old walking everywhere through the snow as practical.

@madmyluv the seats are recommended up to 50lbs. My DD is 2 1/2 and will be turning 3 after I deliver. She fits great now. I also have the glider board.

We heavily use the stroller by going to Disney weekly and I walk a couple miles a daily. I like having all the options depending on the activity for the day.

  • @whitneylux my daughter is 2/12 as well and will be 3 after I deliver too. This stroller sounds amazing.
  • Joovy Caboose Ultralight Stroller is the one we will be getting!
  • I have a BOB single that I love. I definitely plan on getting the double with this one. I love it because if you plan to walk anywhere other than pavement or cement you are good to go (grass, gravel, sand, etc.) I also run a lot so this one meets all my needs :)
