@mskeenan - regarding your question on eggs and mature eggs. During the actual procedure (or after when you're awake), they can tell you how many eggs they retrieved. Later that day or next day, they can tell you how many were mature and how many fertilized. They only check to see if there is an egg immediately after the follicle is aspirated, and move to the next follicle. It would be the embryologist who determines how many are mature. Fx for you tomorrow!!
I left my u/s and I have 19 follies, all at about 15mm. My progesterone was a little on the high side, so it is still unclear whether or not we will freeze eggs or do fresh transfer. I hate all the unknowns each day. I don't know if I will do retrieval on sunday or monday and if I will do transfer next week or in 4 weeks. Its so hard keeping up with everything day to day and I constantly worry about messing things up or forgetting what I am supposed to do on a certain day. I think my calendar has changed 3 times and will probably change again later today. I travel for work and IVF keeps you in this constant holding pattern.
Has anyone done the Ganirelix? That stings more than the menopur.
@mskeenanGL tomorrow, you will do great! Because of your question, I asked my RE today about finding out about eggs after retrieval. They said they will know, but I probably won't remember what they said . Either way, someone will call me the next day with results.
@jenny0228Welcome to the group. I started my stims Christmas Eve as well. I think we can ALL relate to having thoughts that we could have done things differently I've thought of a million reasons why I haven't been pregnant already, but I keep reminding myself that I'm doing the best I can and taking the appropriate measures today.

@babyexpress yes we are! My progesterone was high at my baseline so they gave me meds to lower it. I've been taking them for the last 2 weeks. Yes that ganirelix stings much worse and for much longer than menopur.
@TWWAB what meds did they put you on to lower it? They only lowered my daily injections. I will know more later today if my levels improved since Tuesday.

Ganirelix was the worst! It always caused red irritation when I had those shots. I wish everything was like the Gonal. Easy to use pen (though the first time my husband accidentally didn't put in all the medicine down to zero and had to stick me twice), and no reaction of any kind.
Evening everyone! Crazy busy hormonal day today. Not sure if it's the Lupron or the BC but I was Soo irritated by the littlest things today! :-( maybe I just need some rest tonight. Anyways, GL @mskeenan on ER tomorrow you'll do great! even if u don't remember what they tell u after retrieval just know RE will call next day with an update and give u a recap of what happened. I had 19 follicles only 10 had eggs and 5 made it to day 5 blast and freeze. No PGS testing either cause of cost. @jenny0228 welcome and GL to u and hope IVF brings u your little bundle!
Had my cd2 baseline this morning..Everything looked good and assuming my bloodwork is fine I start meds tonight. This is our first IVF and we are doing a mini stim so starting letrozole tonight and adding in menopur starting sunday night. I am so nervous, anxious, excited..everything!
@rachlee2010 That's exciting! It isn't time for my cycle to start yet, but joined the board. Should be starting around the 18th.I will be taking Lupron, Gonal F, Lupron trigger, Endometrin, and estrace. You?
@mskeenan good luck to you today! as everyone already said, you'll know as soon as you wake up how many eggs they got. keeping my fingers crossed they will get a lot! and the next morning they called me with the fertilization results.
@babyexpress good luck - we are on the same cycle! i also travel a lot for work, the not knowing is SO hard and adds so much stress! i hope you can do your retrieval soon and won't have to wait for the transfer.
also the ganirelix WAS the worst! i was afraid i was having an allergic reaction at first, i had a few hives and so sore after the injection. the rest were SO much easier than i thought. i stood there for 10 full minutes with the needle before my first injection the night i began! it was so scary but after a while no big deal at all.
@Selena2016 We are scheduled for our ER on Monday. Likely a fresh transfer on Saturday depending on the number of embryos we get. We had 22 follicles for our first IVF. My DW was very sore. Are you? Is this your first ER?

@laur2444 I went on a Amazon binge watching all 5 seasons of Homeland over the holidays. Amazing show.
Did everyone have to take your HCG shot before ER intramuscular? I'm used to all the shots in the front.

I did my first Lupron shot today. It took me twenty minutes to work up the nerve... silly, I know. It wasn't that tiny needle, it was the realization that it has officially started.
Omg. Homeland is so good. (Although the first season is my favorite thus far.)

I'm feeling a little discouraged-- I have only seven larger follicles this morning (over 10), and four more smaller follicles in the 6-9 range, that may not grow enough to participate. Today is day 9 of stims for me. But I understand that's normal for DOR and my age. I only need one, though, so I keep thinking that!
My ER will be Tuesday or Wednesday, probably Wednesday. If I'm still stimming on Sunday, I'm going to have to squeeze the last bits of Gonal-F out of the pens I've used (there's always 50-70 iu leftover in the 900 iu pens) to get my full dose that day, but hopefully I won't have to buy any extra meds.
@babyexpress, my trigger will be IM. It's my first IM shot.
I just downloaded the last season of True Blood. I've seen the rest of the series, but for some reason, held off on this last short season. I think recuperating from ER will be a good time to get into it!
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve

7 IUIs, 7 BFNs. 2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs. Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire. Hi there! I've been reading this board for a while, but just got permission to post--my old-ass Knot account from when I got engaged won't let me change the automatically generated username they assigned me. My husband and I are both 33 and we have been TTC for 19 cycles now. We did 3 failed medicated IUIs this fall, took some time "off" for the holidays, and are in the middle of our first IVF now. I just had my day 6 ultrasound and they found 14(!) follicles, which makes me really happy because it is basically the only good news they have given us this whole time. Before, they had only found 8 and told me I had DOR. I was totally dreading IVF because the IUI meds made me feel super emotional and depressed (seriously, I almost quit my job I was so fed up with everything--and I have a career I love and have worked so hard to build). I have been pleasantly surprised that I feel mostly fine with the IVF drugs. No crazy moods (well, just a little), some bloating, some abdominal pain and that's it. I am a runner, so no working out has been making me anxious, but I snuck in some pilates last night and I'm going for a long walk tonight and a hike tomorrow, so hopefully that will make me feel a little less jumpy. Going in for our next ultrasound on Sunday and likely going to have our ER on Monday or Tuesday--I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
@mskeenan I'm so happy for you that's a great number to start with...praying for you and your embabies!
@Selena2016@babyexpress@Cmartin6706 looks like we are all close together. My ER is Sunday...trigger shot tonight using novarel. I'm going to pick up a heating pad later on today. Did your RE give you any specific instructions on what to do during recovery time?
@twomommiestobe it took me and DH like a half an hour the first time and we watched a freedomteach video like 4 times before we felt comfortable injecting. It gets easier and you'll be a pro before you know it
@TWWABno specific instructions on anything during recovery time, other than sleep and they gave me Prescription Tylenol w/ Codeine to help with the pain.
They did tell me the day of the ER to not wear any perfume or scents at all because the eggs are sensitive to smell. Really? Poor little guys. I definitely want them to come out happy and comfortable, ready to fertilize.

@Cmartin6706 this is my first IVF and first ER. We TTC for several years then 8 rounds of medicated IUI. I'm on stims for 10 days. I'm not sore yet. Feeling full and a little cramps. Injections really are not that bad....so far. @Cmartin6706 , @TWWAB, @babyexpress So glad we will be cycle buddies!
Hi everyone, I've been reading everyone's updates, I don't get much computer access so it's hard for me to keep up with everything. I got my medications the other day, a little confusing I wasn't expecting it all to be powders. It all looks so complicated having to mix it all I feel like I'm going to mess everything up! I start some next week so I'm going to be watching the videos a lot this weekend!
@Knottie1451879638 I am a runner too and go Tuesday for baseline tests and will start stims.....I am dreading not being able to run. I keep telling myself it's what needs to be done but I feel like I am going to crack up....I think I haven't missed a day in the past 3 years. I ran during my 3 medicated IUIs just not as much, but have decided I have to go all in for this IVF....hopefully long walks will be okay and maybe going to look into some easy yoga. @babyexpress I started homeland and then stopped at a certain point....maybe I will try to get back into it!! I actually just watched the first episode of that show making a murderer that people are talking about...seems pretty good so far!! We are on our way to VT now for my last ski weekend hopefully since I'll be pregnant soon....fingers crossed!!
@Colleen0516I am so, so nervous about starting my first IVF cycle this January (Today was my baseline!), but reading through so many of these posts have helped so much. Thanks for starting this post. And, all you ladies are warriors!
I wanted to invite you ALL to my blog about IVF, repeat pregnancy loss, TTC, and all this "fun stuff." Feel free to check it out, drop a comment where you might have some expertise, or follow via email if you'd like.
@Minnie1155 I too have never done Clomid or IUI or anything-- straight to my first round of IVF this cycle. I'm curious, if you don't mind sharing, why you are going straight to IVF. I'm always trying to connect with women who have stories similar to mine. If you'd like to check my story out, you can visit my new blog. I'm always looking to connect! Blog: Threelittlebeans.com
Ok friends. I need help. I'm on 150 units of folistin. I know there is overflow but according to my notes I either got 175 overflow from a 300 vile or I have somehow not administered the medicine correctly. I'm trying not to freak out but this is so expensive and so much is riding on this. I dialed the dose to 150 a pushed the plunger. I don't know how I could have messed it up but I can't think there was so much overflow. Thoughts?!? Help!!
@Selena2016 once u pushed the plunger did the dial go down to zero or did it stop before u completed the dose? If it dialed to zero then u administered the medication. If it stopped before u completed then the vial is empty. :-( Reload the pen with a new vial and finish administering the medication at the remaining number til u get to zero. Also if u ever accidentally dial past your dose amount only administer the correct dose leaving the remaining dose in the pen. When u have to do another injection change the needle and dial the pen back up to the correct dose and then push the plunger to zero. Hope this helps! @Minnie1155 mixing the medications is super scary at first but don't worry you'll get the hang of it! Definitely watching the videos a few times will help and maybe follow along with a video when your actually ready to do it too. Also don't forget to use a fresh needle when your ready to do the injection otherwise the needle becomes dull and can hurt when you inject it (ouch!) So glad everyone's making progress in their cycles!! I'm on day 3 of Lupron and today was a better day (emotionally) plus I got a nap after work which was great! T minus 5 days until baseline labs and ultrasound for transfer!
I started my meds last night but it was just letrozole pills..I start injections on tomorrow. I start with Menopur which I have used before so I am not worried about mixing it or administering it. However I will be adding Cetrotide in eventually and have never used that.. Has anyone used it? Is it pretty simple to mix? And where do you give that one? I also have a different trigger than I used in the past..I have always used Ovidrel but this time I have Pregnyl Anyone ever us that???
Update: Holy Follicles! Went for a scan today. The nurse said, "Oh, no wonder you are sore." and "[You have] A good amount [of follicles] but not 30." Our goal was 5 follicles. Lol
Nurse just called and DWs blood work, specifically her progesterone, is too elevated so we won't be doing a fresh transfer. We are bummed about this especially bc DW might be traveling on business next month when we'd need to do the transfer. If her cycle comes one day late this month then we have to wait to transfer until March. We are annoyed about this but I guess it only a few more months. Additionally, they will grow out the embryos until day 5 so we'll have a better understanding of how they are doing before a freeze.
We didn't want this many follicles this time because, frankly, we didn't want so many embryos. Last time we had to go through putting in progressively lower quality embryos knowing that they likely wouldn't work. That was five negatives for us. That was tough. Here's hoping that this works and we get to talk about giving our extra embryos to others for adoption.

I had my consult yesterday and will be starting stims once my cysts are gone (I always end up with cysts after medicated cycles, so I'm ok bcp for two weeks to take care of them). I'm going to be doing 200 units of Follistim, plus low dose hcg and gonarilex (sp?).
There is so much admin before we can start anything! I'm almost thankful I have the cysts so I have two weeks to figure this all out!
@laur2444 oh I will def be netflixing all weekend! just realized I never answered your previous question... I did a total of 9 days of stims... then triggered and did ER two days later! I don't run every day but I def like to exercise some and I have been feeling so GROSS . Did your doc tell you you couldn't run? My doc says to just do everything I would normally do. BUT I didn't feel like exercise at ALL during my stims . Even walking was a little bit painful. I'm hoping I recover quickly so that I can get back into the workout routine and get in good shape before my transfer in march!
@Selena2016 That's an awesome number of follies!! Hope they continue to grow grow grow!!
@Cmartin6706 I hope the ER Monday goes well!! That's amazing your wife has so many follicles!! My husband and I decided to donate any extra embryos we have (if we have any). I think that would be a really cool thing... and make me feel like going through all of this hell is even more worth it.
@KLake42 yes you only need one! How long is your doc telling you you will likely stim for? I haven't seen True Blood yet but I want to.. I've heard great things!!
@rachlee2010 good luck with your injections tomorrow!!!
I will say that I def freaked myself out over my ER more than I needed to. After I woke up my doctor said I was completely panicked. I might have caused a scene.. lol. This recovery isn't as bad as I expected... although I am on Codeine so that probably helps I hope everyone is doing well!!

@Selena2016I got the same 300 vl of Follistim and was originally told to do 200 dose, then went back to 150 after lab results. The actual vl is 400, not 300, so don't be freaked out that you have some left. I would usually dial it back to 200 and then see a little drop come out of needle so I knew it was releasing. For the 1st 5 days I was on 200, so I kept the extra and put in a new vl each day. When I went down to 150, I used the old vl and dialed to 150 with still having some remaining- which would be that extra 50 of overage they give you. I wouldn't be concerned, i'm sure you are fine.

@rachlee2010, the Cetrotide is easy to add in, though I had my nurse give me step to step instructions. At this point, I end up mixing everything into one vial, so I just have one big shot (menopur, gonal-f, and Cetrotide). If you mastered mixing menopur, you won't have a problem. But be prepared-- I get a small local reaction to the Cetrotide, a little itchy rash/bug bite, and it makes the area more sensitive to needles. This is not uncommon, but it makes things uncomfortable.
@mskeenan, I'll probably stim through Sunday (11 days total), and trigger Monday for a Wednesday retrieval.
I appreciate that folks are open to embryo donation, since that's a possible direction we'll go, down the line.
@cmartin6706, are you planning on genetic testing for your embryos? (Forgive me if you've already addressed this, I missed it).

@TWWAB You may need it! I've had menstrual cramps worse than the pain I feel right now. I am uncomfortable.. I still feel like a balloon but the pain is definitely manageable. I didn't think to use a heating pad I should try that!! I have been mostly laying low on the couch with Netflix I got up this morning and drove down the street to get breakfast to bring back home. I did start to feel more pain when I was up and walking around. I would recommend laying low even if you do feel ok just to play it safe! So your ER is tomorrow?? I'll be thinking about you!!! I hope it goes well!!
@KLake42 Sounds like you've got more time for those follies to grow then!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!
I just got a call from the nurse. Of my 21 eggs that were retrieved, 13 were mature. All 13 eggs were successfully fertilized with ICSI. Is that good? I've been reading online that high egg quantities are not always ideal because you generally get poorer quality eggs when there are more of them. Has anyone else heard this? Just wondering if my attrition rate so far is normal. I asked the nurse how many they expect to make it to blast. She said they couldn't answer that but estimated 10-13 would make it. That seems high to me based on what I have read.

So excited to hear results and hoping I get some extras to freeze in case this cycle doesn't work.
@laur2444 I went on a Amazon binge watching all 5 seasons of Homeland over the holidays. Amazing show.
Did everyone have to take your HCG shot before ER intramuscular? I'm used to all the shots in the front.

7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)
@Selena2016 @babyexpress @Cmartin6706 looks like we are all close together. My ER is Sunday...trigger shot tonight using novarel. I'm going to pick up a heating pad later on today. Did your RE give you any specific instructions on what to do during recovery time?
@rachlee2010 congrats on joint the shot party!!
They did tell me the day of the ER to not wear any perfume or scents at all because the eggs are sensitive to smell. Really? Poor little guys. I definitely want them to come out happy and comfortable, ready to fertilize.

Also don't forget to use a fresh needle when your ready to do the injection otherwise the needle becomes dull and can hurt when you inject it (ouch!)
So glad everyone's making progress in their cycles!!
I'm on day 3 of Lupron and today was a better day (emotionally) plus I got a nap after work which was great! T minus 5 days until baseline labs and ultrasound for transfer!

I might have caused a scene.. lol. This recovery isn't as bad as I expected... although I am on Codeine so that probably helps
I hope everyone is doing well!!

@mskeenan I bought a heating pad in preparation for tomorrow do you think I'll need it? Have you been on bedrest or are you actively moving around?

@mskeenan, I'll probably stim through Sunday (11 days total), and trigger Monday for a Wednesday retrieval.
I appreciate that folks are open to embryo donation, since that's a possible direction we'll go, down the line.
@cmartin6706, are you planning on genetic testing for your embryos? (Forgive me if you've already addressed this, I missed it).

Does anyone know if you stop meds when you trigger or are you in meds through the morning of ER?
@TWWAB You may need it! I've had menstrual cramps worse than the pain I feel right now. I am uncomfortable.. I still feel like a balloon but the pain is definitely manageable. I didn't think to use a heating pad I should try that!! I have been mostly laying low on the couch with Netflix
I got up this morning and drove down the street to get breakfast to bring back home.
