I'd like some input from moms of 2+ kids with a roughly 3 year age gap and also moms of 3 year old (or older) kids in general.
DS will be just shy of 3 years old when this baby comes. He currently uses his stroller about 50% of the time when we're out. He likes to walk around and has pretty good stamina, but he likes to sit and have his snack or just rest when he gets tired. By June he probably will not want to sit as much. Or he might want to be pushed in a stroller because of sibling jealousy. Who knows. Also, the two playgrounds closest to our house are both a 20 minute walk away at an adult pace and I don't foresee him making that entire walk there and especially back anytime soon, so I'll still want to have a stroller for that.
I've been thinking of getting a sit-and-stand style stroller instead of a full double stroller. That way it will hold a baby bucket seat and have a spot for DS to sit when he wants to without being as big and bulky as a full double. The main downside I see is that it might not be comfy enough for DS to sit in for long periods of time and he couldn't nap in it (and again, I'm not sure if he would need that by that age).
What has your experience been with double strollers and with strollers for 3 year olds in general? Should I reconsider a full double for any reason (and in that case, a side by side or tandem)? If you have a sit-and-stand, what brand do you have and how do you like it?
Re: Double stroller or Sit-and-Stand?
So we just got a Graco Ready 2 Grow!! It's amazing and there are so many options. We currently have a 3yr, 2yr and the baby in June can be in the infant car seat on the front and one of the kids on the bench. My kids are super busy and love to explore/walk so I love they can get off and on as they please when we are out. They kind of rotate being in the front seat or on the bench at this point. They will have to rotate on the bench/ walking once baby is here. The only downside with the Ready 2 Grow is it's pretty long and takes the entire width of our trunk (Honda accord) to the point you have to give it a shove in. Hope that helps
It has an option for infant seats in front and back as well as two seats forward facing and the option for one sitting and one standing. I bought one with as many options as possible so that i don't have fights later when one doesn't want to sit one way etc.
Editing that I got it for $130 in target on sale and I saw last week babies r us had the same price in store. I went with target because I had a voucher I needed to use
