Had an exam this morning - I am 38+4 the nurse said that she could feel me contracting while trying to get the heartbeat. My cervix is soft but not dilated, I am also 50% effaced.

Could you feel the contractions too or just something the nurse noticed?

So at my appt last week I was 90% effaced and only 1 cm dilated. Doctor said baby was super low. Today I am 38.1 and I literally feel like the baby's head is pushing out and has dropped even lower. Anyone else having this? Even sitting hurts and I feel like I'm sitting on her head.
@MammaDoc I have noticed the tightening but since I am a FTM - I guess maybe I don't notice them all the time. I didn't realize it whenever she pointed it out but she also mentioned how my breathing changed while it happened.
I'm a FTM. I had a horrible puking spell this morning (5 times in 45 minutes) so I called the on call dr and she told me unless it happens for 3 hrs straight there's nothing to worry about throughout the day today I've been feeling a lot of pressure in my back and extremely crummy, she told me not to eat or drink anything for the next couple hours and then I could slowly sip on water after that. If this is how the next couple weeks are going to go I'm probably going to die. I go to the dr tomorrow to see if I'm dialated/effaced at all so I'm crossing my fingers hard right now!!
Ok I have a question -- baby's dad lives 4 hours away, and he is planning on being at the birth. At what point of my contractions/early labor should I call him to make sure that he doesn't miss delivery? I don't want him to come too early and have him miss work or something if it's during the week, but I also don't want him to be late because he's the only person I want in the room with me! I'm a FTM, if that makes a difference in what length my labor is likely to be.

I'm also a FTM, so take my advice with a grain of salt because I've never been through this before. But I have heard stories of people that I actually know delivering literally anywhere from 15 minutes to 24 hours. It seems like they pretty much just come as slow or as fast as they like depending on lots of factors that are out of our control. I would personally call him as soon as possible and let him know, hey this shindig could happen like now, or tomorrow... So come at your own discretion. That way ball is in his court.
@ambercakes92 I'm having the same dilemma...he doesn't live as far as yours does but still not close. I guess @maddisonwallace is right to just call as soon as something funky starts to happen
So I went into pre-term labor last week at exactly 34 weeks. The same thing happened with my DD, pre-term at 34 weeks. Is it a coincidence or will I also develop pre-eclampsia and deliver this baby at 36 weeks too? Has this happen to anyone?
So yesterday around 5:30 am I woke up having painful cramping in my stomach. Changing positions and drinking water didnt help. I had a doctors appt that morning so I just waited and went in. They examined me and said its normal and that I'm not dilated yet. I'm still having these pains today and they are actually decently painful and I can't get rid of them and I'm definitely having more than 4 in an hour. Do you really think this is normal? I don't wanna doubt my doctor but I'm nervous and a FTM. I'm only 34 weeks 3 days.
@hannahduff3 my doctor and the hospital told me if I was having 5 or more contractions an hour to call them. I was having around 6/7 an hour when I went to L&D and they had to stop the contractions.
So I'm 37 weeks today and I had a check at the doctors office this morning. So far, I honestly don't think I've felt much as far as BH or anything. No effacement and no dilation so far. But after my check this morning I have to say I've been really crampy off and on all day and starting to feel more tightness in my lower abdomen and back. There was one point where I was even a little nauseous. I'm not concerned because nothing has been intense nor regular, but does that sound like BH contractions?? Just curious because I've never had anything like that. Just feels like period cramps.
I haven't felt tightness in back just more in my stomach abdomen area from bh which are getting more intense and frequent throughout the day for the past 4 days...
I only have pressure on my colon which i assume is from baby that makes me feel i need to poop 2-3 times a day... Odd cramp/sharp pain behind my belly button maybe 1-2 times but thats all..
My bump hasn't dropped yet and at my 36 wk appt last thursday baby was sitting loosely just at my pelvic area and not fully lodged head down in pelvis so my dr says it could still be another 2 weeks or more before baby comes from that appt..
Sometimes when i sit on couch i can feel baby moving like te position i'm in is uncomfortable for her so i have to lie on my side to stop her moving etc...
@MollyA1011 What you are describing doesn't sound like BH to me. In my experience, the tightness with BH is felt all over the uterus, not just low. I also think cramping after a check is pretty common. I've had period like cramps after every check that I've had. They are usually gone by the next day.

I'm not noticing them really at all today so it probably was from my check which is originally what I thought. I'm beginning to think this baby is going to take forever! Lol I feel nothing! Which is okay if that's what's best but I'm wanting to meet my peanut!
Hi I'm 35+1 and I've been exhausted - and I mean utterly exhausted for the past few days. Then today I get cramps and then tonight I have an upset tummy and feel really grotty. I've been told I have GBS today too so won't get the water birth I wanted and will have to stay in hospital for at least 12 hours after baby is born - so I've been worried today. This is my 4th and I'm really fed up with feeling grotty and having to deal with caring for my other 3 children largely on my own (hubby works long hours). Anyone experiance an upset tummy just before labour? If it is just an upset tummy, then I'm really not impressed getting this just before Christmas but equally if it's labour, the thought of giving birth at Christmas upsets me as Our family would miss out on quality family time with me in hospital. Advice? X
@hannahduff3 That does sound normal to me. I have similar stuff going on. I think you can trust your doctor. After 34 weeks they generally don't try to stop labor, so if you were in labor, you'd just have to deliver the baby. But it's not likely you're going into labor if you're not dilated at all.
@MollyA1011 Those do sound like normal cramps/BH contractions, and it's normal to have them after a cervical check.

@Mumtobe+4I think it's semi normal, my OB said it was normal when I asked about my icky feeling today. She said with the lack of space and the moving baby digestion doesn't do exactly what it's supposed to (I'm 36+1 today). If there's a bug going around locally watch out for that because you definitely want to be aware but as far as just feeling icky know you are DEFINITELY not alone. Nothing tastes yummy and I almost immediately feel gross after eating
My observation turned into being admitted to the hospital.... My admission turned into being induced... Currently trying to thin out my cervix Contractions suck! I can't sleep- baby monitor is annoying if I move they have to adjust it.... Every hour
Baby will be here Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.......

Will be 37 wks tomorrow and since 6hrs ago had persistent cramps on left side above my belly button... Definitely feel baby there as she was moving her feet earlier.. Maybe this is baby starting to descend down.
Definitely not contractions as feeling nothing on my back..... Also i'm not having that pulsating feeling.
38+3 and the last two times I was checked (Tuesday being the most recent) my midwife can't find my cervix. She says baby is head down and everything looks good, but I assume she can't find it because she hasn't dropped yet. She says she could "dig around" and find it but opts not to. Anxious to know where I am in the process, but work is changing the maternity policy effective 1/1 to a better benefit so hoping baby girl stays put until at least 12:01am on 1/1!

Looks like we had the same problem! Good luck, momma!
Thank you guys for all the hearts! Just an update, they started ripening my cervix last night around 6. Started contractions around 12. They checked my cervix around 4, I was 3 cm. Checked again at 5 and I was 9! Baby boy born at 6:35!

@mg137 thank you! Did you go into labor on your own at 35 weeks? No NICU time?
Yup. Baby A broke her water. Her head had been wedged in my pelvis for a couple months and her face came out squished on one side so I think she just ran out of room for her head to grow. It popped back out mostly over the first day and the rest by about a week old so thankfully she's not the squished face identical twin. Her sister didn't want to come out yet.
3 days in NICU, which was great. Learned so much from nurses but still got to take the girls home the day after I was discharged. We spent the last night at a hotel across the street from the hospital.

Hoping for the sake of their health and the holidays that they can hang on til 2016. I think they will make it well beyond that honestly.

Hopefully it's only a few hours
Something about lab work, checking my BP and a 24hr urine...
Two days before Christmas... Merry Christmas!! It's what I've always wanted ( sarcasm if you didn't catch it )
