I unfortunately lost my second pregnancy on Sunday after a first miscarriage early in November. My OB office was able to get me in for an appointment yesterday and I met with a doctor who put my mind at ease. He said we could wait for a 3rd miscarriage to do testing or he could start the treatment typically started after a 3rd miscarriage anyway. He said it's great that I was able to get pregnant so quickly, now it's just a matter of supporting the early pregnancy as best we can. He also thought that I only knew about the last pregnancy because we were trying, otherwise I would have just thought my period was late due to the last miscarriage. As soon as I find out I am pregnant again he's starting me on progesterone, baby aspirin, and a higher does of folic acid. Has anyone had any experience with these 3 treatments? Any success?
Re: Will this really help?
Good luck.

I'm curious; were you told to wait a cycle or more after your first MC? It seems to be the most common practice; to make sure your HCG levels come back down to zero before you start trying again. It doesn't seem like this was done for you?

If I were you I would request an ultrasound ASAP. That sounds like an ectopic and you will need immediate treatment. Waiting for things to progress could result in a loss of a tube.
A few things: Did your beta ever zero out? Were you using OPK's or temping? I agree that you should have an ultrasound ASAP. This could be an ectopic or it could be a new pregnancy. If it is not a new pregnancy, you need to find out ASAP because the timing of your BFP from before is very concerning. Hopefully it's a new pregnancy.
Second: as someone who has had multiple losses myself, I would go through the multiple miscarriage testing. I'm not sure what the statistics are. But I do know that for me, not only do I need extra folic acid I also take an injectable blood thinner called Lovenox when I am pregnant. So if you are in that smaller percentage, it's worth it to go through the testing.
Lastly: if you feel any sharp pains or abdominal discomfort/fever/chills… Head straight into the ER please.
Good luck
Hi there,
My sitch is a little different in that I was doing other fertility meds for my current pregnancy to GET pregnant, but to maintain the pregnancy was similar- I was put on a huge dose of progesterone suppositories 2x a day starting at 3dpo and for the months we were trying, I would start that until pregnancy was either confirmed or 16dpo and negative test (I was using trigger shots and multiple ultrasounds so I knew when I was ovulating) and would stop taking them and my period would come. For the cycle we did get pregnant on, I continued the 2x daily progesterone until 10 weeks, then dropped to 1x week for a week, then stopped altogether. You can see my history under my signature, its not quite the same as yours, but after what I thought was a second miscarriage (really was an unresolved and slow to progress ectopic) my doctor wrote me global referral to see an RE and thats where I later did my fertility treatment from after losing a tube. Thats just how my insurance happened to work out- they let me go before three miscarriages; I did have the recurrent pregnancy loss panel done (18 vials of blood) and was found to have elevated thyroid antibodies and began thyroid meds in the summer on my hiatus, and will take those through the end of pregnancy. They cant confirm since I did not have any testing on my first miscarried fetus (no reason to), but my thyroid issue may have been a factor in losing that pregnancy. I did not go the baby aspirin route but I did look into it prior to the RE prescribing the other things, they just didn't think I needed to. If your doctor thinks it would help you, I'd listen to their advice. But, maybe just to give a positive outcome (so far), the progesterone, thyroid med, and all along folic acid, have at least sustained this pregnancy to 17.5 weeks. Best of luck to you!
ETA: I also had an HSG done prior to starting the fertility meds on my remaining tube. I got my global referral (which meant the specialist was covered and not out of pocket) from my general practitioner who I never ever see...again not sure if that was just lucky or what.

Sorry for your losses, but I'm super confused by the bolded statement. If you just lost your second pregnancy on Sunday, why would you be happy that your HCG is climbing again two days later? Did I miss something?

with my ectopic my numbers were all over. First was 55, then 150, then 250, they told me it was progressing normal. A week later I had bleeding, no cramping. My bloodwork said it went back to 150 something. I had ultrasounds which showed nothing in my ute or tubes, but they entertained ectopic. I went and got more bloodwork which was 90ish, then I had methotrexate injections to resolve the pregnancy (this was over like 3 weeks of up and down numbers), and the bloodwork came back after that at at 621! I was very confused. They said this confirmed ectopic. The injections were expected to dissolve it quickly and I went back for more bloodwork and it was 900 something. Still not big enough for an ultrasound. I literally got bloodwork every 2 days for 1.5 months. It did start to go down...but 3 or so weeks later my tube ruptured anyway. The shot didnt work, the ectopic kept growing, and doctors said my case was very unique- I had no pain until it was a huge mass and it took 4 days to finally figure it out- sharp pain is not always the norm. I TRULY hope this isnt the case for you, but I also don't want you to get false hope, like I did, that the numbers going back up meant the pregnancy was still viable. It wasnt. This is why it is so important to give yourself a cycle to readjust and make sure your ute is back to normal and no residual hcg from one pregnancy. My doctor told me wait a cycle and I didnt listen because it took me 7 weeks to get my period back after my first loss and I dont know that it impacted me having an ectopic but I wish I would have listened. Again, best of luck.

Still the wrong board to ask and still so so confused as to why you would ask a bunch of women who are trying to get pregnant if progesterone, baby aspirin and folic acid will help with future pregnancies when you might still be pregnant right now.

I don't think its "super awkward" .. I think she's asking a question about getting pregnant. I have not personally tried that combo of things to get pregnant but thought I'd chime in as a close friend of mine was prescribed that stuff from her Dr and is now 5 months pregnant

So yes this post was intended for "Trying to Get Pregnant."
Did you run your thought by the doctor? Messing with P4 (Progesterone) levels can actually not regulate your cycles, but mess them up, I believe. Ask your doctor what he wants you to do. Farting around with less than exact dosing can really set you up for some confusion.
Best of luck when you decide to TTCAL.
