Please don't say that stress affects pregnancy and causes miscarriage. Not only is it not true, but it is hurtful to women who have had miscarriages. My two miscarriages were caused by chromosomal abnormalities and could not have been prevented even if I were calm as a Hindu cow.

My doctor told me that not only can stress keep you from getting pregnant but it can also hamper some women from maintaining a pregnancy. Since I so recently had a miscarriage before becoming pregnant a second time, I truely believe that a combination of lack of progesterone but also stress from work, the holidays, and doing whatever I could to make sure this pregnancy would be successful potentially caused my miscarriages. My miscarriages were in back to back cycles within 6 weeks of each other.

20 to 30% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. The great majority of the time, miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities or a problem in the structure of your uterus or the uterine lining. Recent studies show that common every day stress such as stress from "the holidays" is not shown to cause a miscarriage. Stressing about miscarriage will not cause you to have one.

I am sorry for your loss, but I think your doctor is misguiding you here. Stress itself does not affect your chances of getting pregnant and/or maintaining pregnancy. Holiday stress, or just simple everyday stress is normal. Truth be told we cannot prevent stress, which makes people seem think we need to somehow be 100% stress-free which is impossible. Like @TheBorg7of9 has mentioned before, sometimes you need to give yourself permission to stress rather than trying to ignore it.

Stress causing miscarriage is a very archaic ideology. There are women all over the world that are pregnant during times of war, great impoverishment, and many other overly stressful/devastating times that manage to have perfectly healthy pregnancies... Meanwhile there are happy/healthy/fairly stress-free women in the prime of their lives who miscarry. It's been widely proven miscarriage is a byproduct of chromosomal abnormalities (unless otherwise caused by an outside source such as an infection)

No it freaking doesn't, unless maybe your life is actually in danger or something. Not the gd holidays. Stress over consecutive pregnancies happen to every woman that's suffered a loss and most go on to carry just fine. I was happy and calm as could be in my first pregnancy and know I will be very stressed with future ones, chances still are that everything will be fine.

This is scientifically false. While chronic stress, a diagnosed medical condition, can make it difficult to get pregnant, the day-to-day stress that people face has no bearing on the ability of women to get pregnant.

As someone actively going through a miscarriage right now, @Caitie81490, I just wanted to say that I find your accusation that stress causes MCs EXTREMELY hurtful. While my head may know that stress and worry didn't cause my MC, my heart doesn't always listen. I'm stuck at work and tearing up bc of the thought that my body rejected my baby bc of stress. So please just knock it the f--- off with the stress and miscarriage crap. I know you're hurting from your loss, and I'm sorry, truly... But don't make others feel worse while trying to make yourself feel better! If your doctor told you this, then you need a new doctor!
I'm going to retreat back into Lurkdom for now, but I couldn't just sit by while you defended your words. They have a real capacity to cause pain.

I went through this exact thought process when I miscarried. I found out at 12 weeks that I was only 9 weeks. I backtracked and thought about all that happened that weekend that I would have been 9 weeks and how everything I did that weekend was probably the cause of my miscarriage. It was horrible. I blamed myself for everything I did that weekend for a long time. I wanted there to be a reason for the miscarriage so that it would be easier to understand and wrap my head around, but the hard truth is that there wasn't a "reason". It just happened. It was a chromosomal abnormality and nothing I could have done (or not done) would have changed that.
Like others have said, please stop trying to find a reason that isn't there.
@RiverSong15 and all the others I am so very sorry first for your loss, and second that you had to read this. Stress isn't good for anyone because it makes you feel sad, anxious, scared, whatever, but not because it causes miscarriage. Causation/correlation and all that stuff. And you know, many doctors don't help with this - my doctor told me to stop thinking about babies or research adoption and I would magically get pregnant. C'mon now. As always, we blame women for their health or their circumstances. If men carried babies, you can bet we wouldn't tell them to "just relax".
Every time OP comes back, I get more and more frustrated with this thread. Not to beat a dead horse, but you, nor the many other women on this board (myself included) who have suffered a loss did anything to cause said loss. Insinuating so is not only hurtful to us as it brings up bad memories and pain, it's not helpful to you in terms of healing and moving forward. Be kinder to yourself.
