@cait7425 Thanks for sharing. LO is so heavy its sometime hard to pick him up, especially from pack n play and I feel like this could happen to is, being super careful now.
I'll share our baby accident so everyone else is careful. At home LO sits in his high chair when we eat so we don't have him in our lap. He also has no interest in food and just started reaching out for things a week or two ago. So, yesterday at Thanksgiving I sat down with him on my lap and he immediately put his hand into my food, hot sweet potatoes. The candied topping burned his hand. Worse than we realized because we were looking on his palm and burn was around his fingernails. We put it under cold water but not as long as we should have and not on the right side of his hand. Anyway he is completely fine, was very happy today, but his skin is blistered and red in a fe tiny spots. I feel like the worst mom on the planet but I realize that part of this was that Im usually alone and haven't eaten a hot meal since before he was born. So trying to go easy on myself. I will never make that mistake again. I imagine all of you are already more careful and more used to eating hot food but I thought I'd share (as embarrassing as it is) so others can be aware and do better than I did! Both in avoiding this and in looking for the burn on both sides of the hand.
So sorry that happened! Could happen to anyone, so hope you can be easy on yourself. I've been having a hard time keeping up with LO this week, as he's started thrusting himself forward as he reaches to get at things further away. Kinda freaked out about the challenges of keeping track of him as he gets increasingly mobile

Well since were sharing. Tonight we had our best friends over for the husker/hawkeyes game and I usually turn on my scentsy warmer when I'm cleaning to make the house smell nice and turn it off before any company comes over......... Welp I didn't turn it off and their two year old reached onto the table and stuck her fingers in it.
Weird thing is she didn't cry...... But I did. I feel horrible !
Aww all you ladies are wonderful mommas... No matter what you do, how careful, how attentive there will always be things that happen to our little ones.. It's all part of growing up.
The key is that we find the right balance between being careful and avoiding smothering them so that they get to learn these things.
Every kid will eventually; -touch something hot and get burned, -touch something cold and maybe get stuck to it -play too hard and get bumps and bruises -learn from these experiences that they need to be careful and potentially not repeat that again!
Like others have said let yourself off the hook, you're doing the best you can and we are also constantly learning what works and doesn't work so we will make mistakes too. Like the other day my first big mom fail was getting too confident in his sitting skills and he moved quickly and crashed on his poor head. I felt horrible but instead of getting worked up I laughed and smiled have hugs and said you okay? And he quickly got over it and continued playing!

So true! I had a mama friend who taught her little one hot and cold by letting him play with ice and feel the oven when it was warm. She made sure he wouldn't get hurt, but somehow little ones need to learn 'hot' is.
@henrytviii poor LO, poor mama! I'm so sorry this happened and you didn't get to enjoy your meal after. Our LO is starting to reach out for our drinks and sometimes our food the past few days. He's also getting into that bouncy stage stage he's awful wiggly and abrupt in his movements, this could very easily have happened to us, so thanks for the warning.

Does anyone's else's baby try to scratch, kneed, or otherwise torture mommy's nipple with their razor sharp nails while nursing? I can only cut them so far, and it hurts like hell. I keep grabbing her finger and telling her no sternly. She doesn't give a shit.
@lovethatcolosun Yes! This completely! I got so frustrated with LO this morning for doing this! It hurts so freaking bad! Sometimes I can get him to hold onto a lovey or small blanket while he eats and that helps sometimes.
^^ the other day lo was in the high chair and tilted her head up so almost the top of her head was touching the back of the high chair and she was shaking her head. It was pretty funny, and then my mom said oh she was probably itchy.. I don't think a almost 6 month old thought to scratch her head on the high chair
Mine shakes his head and pinches my boobs with too-long nails that I never seem to get to.
My guy is fake choking/gagging/coughing lately. It's funny most times but not, say, when I'm driving. I'm sure he's not the only one pulling this stunt?!
Elle figured out the mmm sound..so when she is fussy or wants attention she yells.. Mamamamamama mmmm mamama instead of actually crying. And it works bc in my mind she's calling for momma. Lol
@virginiaunicorn11 my guy has been doing the fake cough for a while. I've been assuming he just wants to be cool like mom and was mirroring me (my whatever it is I'm seeing the Dr for next week has me coughing fairly consistently).
does anyone else's baby not sit up on their own yet? whenever i sit my LO down he just leans forward and the only thing keeping his nose from touching the floor is his belly. he will be 6 months on january 7th
^^That sounds normal, I still have a wobbly sitter at almost 7 months and lots of the younger babies are only doing propped sitting. As long as he's getting tummy time and you are playing with him in propped sitting position he's working on these skills. He's big too, and that's just that much more weight to support with the same abdominal muscles. Mine is big too and was exactly same at 6 months.
LO just turned 6 months on the 17th. Last Friday, she couldn't really sit unassisted. By Sunday she was a pro. It's one of those things where they might wake up and be able to sit. Don't worry about it yet.
@JessHeppell I almost mentioned this earlier but didn't want to sound 'braggy'. When I try to work on sitting with LO, he plants his feet, arches his back, and will not pivot from the waist. He does NOT want to sit, he wants to stand. So it does not surprise me if your LO arches and does not attempt to sit. However, I must admit we are still working on rolling over, so there's that.
Does anyone's baby get super congested when teething? And I don't mean a runny nose, I mean a snort when eating, startle herself awake, constantly nose-frida-ing congested?
We toured a daycare for 20 minutes, I was grossed out by the sock less, snotty nosed kids and lo and behold, 48 hours later LO comes down with his first cold.
Bought Nose Frida. He freaking hates it. Takes 2 of us to hold him down and he screams bloody murder. We spray saline in each nostril to loosen the drier stuff then suck. It totally works but beware the germs are still floating around. I got sick the day after first using it. He had been sick 2 days before we bought the NF and I was totally fine, which is why I'm attributing my cold to using it. Other people mentioned the same thing in Amazon reviews.
Conclusion: great for congestion, your baby will probably hate it, and you want to be slamming 4 gr vitamin C before using the thing.
I don't use anything for LO's nose. I hear and read about all these nose battles and can't decide if I'm negligent or LO is just lucky in that regard (so far, KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!!).

This is exactly what we do. I'm not trying to do anything to that dudes nose unless he is seriously congested, and we've avoided that so far. So, I'm leaning on we're lucky @virginiaunicorn11
I occasionally have used saline when she was really congested but usually let the stuff work its way out... I will put her on her tummy to encourage it to exit when there seems to be a lot ... I think it bothers us more than it bothers them... The suction things seem to encourage it to just keep coming out or at least that is what I have always thought.
I haven't used anything on LOs nose either and feel so lucky. He gets mad enough when I wipe it or try to get a booger out with my finger. Gross I know.
It really depends on the size of baby's nasal passages. This one and my first have really skinny ones, so even a small booger will clog them right up. I was pulling boogers out of my 4yo up until last year when he finally learned he could pick his own nose.
