What are you asking for for christmas?

My DH keeps asking me for suggestions on what I want and honestly I'm struggling! I feel it's hard enough to buy for myself right now with my body changing on a daily basis. Any little indulgences or luxuries you ladies are asking for or hoping for next week??

Re: What are you asking for for christmas?

  • Honestly...a bed.  Having our mattress on the floor since June has really taken it's toll.  I'd like DH to go ahead and build the bed he's promised me.  That, and maybe a prenatal massage.  My bday is tomorrow and I asked for XM radio to be renewed because I loathe the lack of station variety where I live.  I'll be ordering it for myself on Friday!
I know what you mean though, about spending money on yourself.  I told DH I'd rather save the money so we can put it into a car seat or something else major for LO, but than again, Moms tend to be pretty selfless people, and deserve a little 'all about me' treat now and then!

  • I want a new phone. I've suffered through a windows phone for long enough! Oh, and I'd also like one of those gift baskets from Giradelli at Target, since I know my fiancé has no idea how to shop for bras that would fit, which is what I desperately need!
  • We just did some pretty pricey renovations so I'm asking him to not get me anything. He'll get me jewelry of some sort, though, because he loves picking it out. I think I'm getting him a nice set of screwdrivers.

  • We try to do planned weekend/ date days. I got tickets for a college basketball game and soft-scheduled a babysitter for the afternoon and evening so we can have a day just us. Last year he got me tickets to Book of Mormon in his parent's city and had talked to them about watching DD. We won't do an actual babymoon this time around, so we've talked about sending DD to the grandparents' and doing a "staycation" weekend in Feb. to get massages, see a movie and do some house projects before we have a newborn to juggle too, so I'm guessing it'll be a massage gift certificate, but who knows?

  • From my husband, I asked for some TOMS or Kate Spade earrings (his choice and he'll pick it out) and some new makeup. I did give him specific suggestions on the makeup, ha. From other family, I either referred them to my Amazon wish list or asked for Fossil gift cards. I've been collecting them since my birthday to buy a nice big bag to double as a purse and diaper bag.
It's weird asking for things for myself though! I'm much better at buying for others.
  • From DH, I asked for a camera. I love taking pictures and with the fact that we will have 2 little ones around, I want to be able to capture some wonderful moments on a semi-professional camera. From everyone else, I didn't ask for anything. Whatever I get, is fine. I just really want that camera lol.
  • We usually buy something we need together. This year we will be buying a new couch and love seat .
We share a bank account so to me it's kinda silly to exchange presents when I could just go out and pay for what I'd like myself. The money comes from the same place.
  • I actually think this year we went a little overboard on each other since once DD2 is here we won't be able to justify these types of purchases. All I told him was to please not get me a kitchen gadget (which I normally love). Luckily he listened and there's a big box from coach under the tree

  • UGH, DH keeps asking me and I keep telling him nothing. He knows I want a ridiculously expensive bag but I told him I would prefer it when this next little one is done with a diaper bag. He did get me the robe I asked for but he feels its not enough. There is just nothing I want right now.
  • Thanks ladies! The only thing I can think of I wouldn't just go out and get myself that I would really love is a pregnancy massage but I think dh feels weird giving me a gift card to open

  • I've been asking DH if this year we could save your money and not spend it on gifts on each other. Our anniversary is a week before Christmas, and I've already attended 6 different family birthdays since December started. Needless to say, my bank account needs a time out.

I honestly wouldn't even know what to ask for. Whenever I want or need something I always go and purchase it, so I feel like I have everything..?

I think my Christmas wish list would be to start our registry finally so I can feel a little more prepared for LO. I'm starting to freak out over here
  • I asked DH for a new cutting board for my fabric. I've had mine for the last five years and it's time for a new one...but they are kind of spendy.

I asked my parents for replacement parts for my pump. New battery, tubing and the flanges. They think I am crazy but I really don't need much right now.

  • Honestly, what I really REALLY want is for a service to come and deep clean my house, like a real deep cleaning that we need to be out the entire day for them to get it all done. But that's not in the budget (or logical with a toddler and Labrador) right now. So he got me some kind of jewelry (I think? That man keeps Blue Nile in business!), a ring rest, and a new jewelry box.

I wish I had also thought to mention prenatal massage, but we may gift a couples message to ourselves for Valentine's Day.

  • We purchased new living room furniture in the summer and decided that was most of our Christmas. I ask for a new planner every year, and I'm pretty positive he ordered it for me. Besides that, I haven't asked for anything. We usually just buy each other something that we know the other needs. He's getting new LL Bean slippers and beard oil.

Definitely asking for money for nursery furniture from our family!

All I want for Christmas is a healthy baby and a smaller ass. Can I get them both?

If you can figure this out, you better let me know. My maternity jeans barely fit over my ass last night!
  • LIke @jonesl12, DH and I also share bank accounts so its weird for us to "buy gifts" for each other. But, his job allows him to earn lots of overtime pay. So, he has a few extra dollars to splurge with each pay period.

@Goldsgirl9 I've also been asking for a new bag that is crazy expensive. But, I know that I definitely don't want to use it for a diaper bag and trash the interior so, I'll wait down the line for that one. I just know that the price will have increased greatly by the time I purchase it. For now, I suggested a cute bandeau from LV to use as a bag charm and a prenatal massage. We'll see what happens.

  • DH and I decided with all things baby happening not to buy 'things' for each other... instead we are going on a little trip. So technically our Christmas gift is a Babymoon. Nothing fancy... we are both outdoorsy people and AZ has some awesome sights so we will be doing a long weekend in Monument Valley, and then doing a tour of Antelope Canyon. Pretty excited. I've been out here 3 years and DH has lived here all but about 10 years of his life and neither of us have been there.

That being said I am secretly stuffing his stocking with a few little things (massage, beard oil, and a few little things) and have dropped the hint to him that I desperately NEED new slippers... I've squashed the memory foam down to nothing in the pair that I have.
  • DH don't exchange gifts for any occasion really. I just don't see the point for us since money is tight and our accounts are joint anyway. MIL is buying our new crib since I gave away DSs awhile back. I could use a new watch and a maternity robe of some type.
  • I got a new phone about a month ago, so I asked DH not to get me anything, except maybe a box of chocolates. I always feel guilty when we spend money! Plus, the older I get (or maybe the older my kids get?), the more I feel like Christmas is more about giving stuff to kids than to each other. After figuring out what to get 4 little people for Christmas, my mental energy is spent.

  • We got each other a Tula wrap! And then we stuff each other's stockings pretty nicely as well.
  • @allaire314 @g&tlewis I've seen a few of you gals mention "beard oil".... How have I never heard of this? What is it? DH keeps a pretty long beard and I'm positive he could use this magic potion!
  • @ejled Oh beard oil is magic! DH usually keeps a beard October - April/May (hates it in the Phoenix summer) but it sometimes gets wirey and weird... so he uses beard oil to calm the hairs down and keep them in order. He loves the Sandalwood smell. They have a specialty shop near where I live that I buy from, but Etsy has tons of shops that also sell it!

Ooh, definitely adding that to DH's gift idea list. He may or may not have been strongly encouraged to use my conditioner last winter when it got wirey :)

  • I've been asking for IKEA gift cards, since we're going to be moving right before baby comes. DH wasn't going to do that, so I just showed him things that I liked and told him no maternity clothing and no bras, since my chest seems to keep increasing in size and I'm no longer in Victoria's Secret sizes. I already know he bought me a ring, since he asked for my ring size. DH never buys me jewelry, so this is very different... He usually gets me something small (like a book, something fox related, or fabric) or asks me to buy my own gift.

  • @linzoirv I posted this elsewhere but I had wanted designer diaper bag when we got pregnant and DH happily obliged. When it came down to it, I told him forget it and to get me a new bag once my diaper bags days were down and he did. It felt like such a treat. I recently saw a bag I fell in love with and without prompt he asked me to send him the name. I told him as much as I loved it I would rather wait because soon I will be living out of a diaper bag anyway and I would rather wait and go shopping for it like we did last time. Hopefully they don't raise the price between now and then because I refuse to spend one additional penny on that bag.
  • @Goldsgirl9 which bag are you in love with? Details! Details!
  • I asked my husband for pregnancy massage and a pedicure.
  • -Jewelry from Etsy (a cute pendant, hammered triangle stud earrings, a bangle with kids' initials)
-Cute suede tassel flats from J. Crew Factory
    -Scarf
    -Aviators

Pretty much shoes and accessories because I LOVE CLOTHES AND I'M TOO PREGNANT FOR THEM. haha.

I also want a diaper clutch. Already have a diaper bag, but would love something to be able to throw into my diaper bag or m regular purse depending on the day.

If by any chance you are talking Chanel, prices do go up once a year typically in the beginning of the year, around February… Sometimes they raise it twice a year. :(
  • I know this is going to sound really cheesy, but it's true: I haven't been able to think of anything I want/need right now. I can't explain, my mind has been so set on baby, that I cannot think of anything else really. I guess I just want a healthy baby for Christmas :) (Wait, not for Xmas… For Easter would be more appropriate! :D)
  • @allaire314 DH and I have decided that for the next few years, we'll forgo any gift over $20 for any occasion and set aside the money we save to go on a very delayed honeymoon. We've both always wanted to go on a cruise but want to wait until LO is a couple years old, so hopefully we'll get to go before we start trying to get pregnant again ;)

DH forced me to take a day to think of something not related to the kids so he could go shopping. I first told him I wanted a toddler bed for DS1, a new diaper bag (one to keep in the car and one to keep at home, just in case, since we only have one vehicle), and new storage for toys. He told me that wasn't going to fly and think about myself... And to not make it pregnancy related.

I've also been having issues buying things for DS2, since it seems like just yesterday that I ought similar things for DS1... It's so much easier to buy things for a child that can use it right away versus in the near future.

You're SO is probably going to surprise with something awesome that you haven't even thought of ;)

  • @DougalMCG the Louis Vuitton Montaigne GM. It's just so expensive for an LV, you can basically get a Chanel for almost the same price. I'm not a huge LV fan or a fan of logos in general but I saw this bag in person and fell in love. Even DH loved it when he saw it.

@thaisac1 Not Chanel but yes I know. I can't bring myself to spend the $$$ on the Chanel I want. Sadly, LV raises their prices as well but not as often as Chanel.

@Goldsgirl9 The LV price raise is a recent phenomenon - copying Chanel I suppose! :) I gave myself a Chanel double flap as a graduation present once I finished my residency and fellowship training and started working. I had told myself I would only buy that bag once I had the money to pay for it in full without paying interest in credit card (which is my typical approach to purchases). However, I have to say that had I bought the bag 8 years earlier, when I was starting my residency training, and just put it on the credit card, the credit card interest would have been lower than the price increase Chanel imposed on the bag over he following 8 years. Makes sense? I also have a wallet on chain which I love love love, it's my go-to evening bag.

@thaisac1 Have I ever told you that I love you? I totally understand get justification. I want the classic large envelope but $6,500??? UGH!!!! I keep joking that I'm saving my Amex points to buy the bag and by the time I have enough points it will have doubled in price. LV raised the price of their fascinate bag last year or the year before I believe. DH went to buy it for me a few months after we originally saw it and it had gone up an additional $500. So annoying but I get why they do it, I don't like it but I get it.
  • @AmadorRose we got the idea from one of the radio personalities we listen to... him and his wife don't buy each other gifts for any occasion, they just DO something instead. I think it's a great idea, because if we want something, we can buy it. But you can't buy the memories you make doing something together... awww

The Montaigne is a BEAUTIFUL BAG. Love, love, love especially in empreinte.

I am a handbag fanatic; LV is my designer of choice.

I feel a diaper bag thread coming on....

  • @goldsgirl9 & @thaisac1 The diaper bag thread is up & running! : )
