Baby Names

Avery or Evelyn

Which name fits in better with big sister Aubrey? Dh and I love Evelyn but I'm worried it won't go with Aubrey since her name is unisex. Evelyn would go by Evie.

Re: Avery or Evelyn

  • Avery is super trendy and I'm just generally not a fan of it. Evelyn is much more classic. Also, I would personally avoid naming siblings with the same first letter.

  • Evelyn.

Avery is the new Ashley and going to be a name that will date people with it. I also find it to matchy with Aubrey

  • I have always been an Avery fan even when I was younger. Evelyn is nms. My vote is Avery.

  • Evelyn.

Aubrey and Avery is too much in a sib set.
  • Is Evelyn too old fashion next to Aubrey though? If we go with Evelyn we will probably call her Evie
  • I think Aubrey and Evelyn look completely fine together! I definitely prefer that over Aubrey and Avery.

Aubrey is actually pretty old fashioned too although it was historically a male name.
  • I think I read somewhere Evelyn was used as a male name too at one point.. Although I know a lot of older women was named Evelyn so I don't think it was really as unisex as Aubrey use to be.. But thanks for the comments

Evelyn used to be used on men, along with Celeste and Maria.

    Aubreyand Avery are too matchy.

Frances is another actually unisex option.
  • Evelyn. Aubrey and Avery are too similar sounding for me and Avery is super popular right now.
  • I like both names but I'm not sure I love either with Aubrey, which isn't helpful, I know.  I don't mind matchy sibsets but Aubrey and Avery is too much for me even. And in my opinion Evelyn is a different style name than Aubrey.  My friend has an Aubrey and Cadence, just as a suggestion.

  • Evelyn is NMS. Screams old lady to me. I like Avery. Evelyn is becoming too popular IMO.
  • I also like Aria, Ava, Emma, and Lily. Yes I like pretty common names. Any of those sound better next to Aubrey? I keep going back to Evelyn. I alway loved the name Evan for a boy and that would've been her name :)
  • Aubrey and Avery are way too matchy for my tastes. Evelyn is pretty timeless and goes nicely with Aubrey.

I'd say Aria, Ava, Emma and Lily are more in the realm of Aubrey. (Recent Aubrey - not historical Aubrey) What about Aubrey & Eva? It's not quite as old fashioned as Evelyn, but you can still nn her Evie. It has a harder E sound at the beginning than Evelyn and Evan though, so it may not be your thing.
  • I like Evelyn over Avery.

But out of all your options, I like Emma the best with Aubrey.
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • Evelyn is a million times better and isn't so matchy with Aubrey.

  • I'd save Evan in case you have a future son.

For that matter, all the names you've chosen were/are masculine to start. So there's that. If you chose them for this reason then I suppose that's just your naming style.

I personally think Avery is far too similar and "matchy" in a sib set with Aubrey... can't understand why you'd want to do that. Evelyn (and the nickname Evie) is pretty popular these days, if that doesn't bother you then I would go with that.

  • We've got Evalina on our list, I think it's a pretty variation of Evelyn and much less trendy.
  • Yvonne is another name that can be shortened to Evie.
  • I definitely think Avery is too matchy with Aubrey. I'd choose Evelyn. I also like Emma or Lily, if you aren't concerned about popularity. I also love Eva and think that's a great suggestion.
  • Avery is already hugely popular so you might want to reconsider.  Evelyn is a bit older sounding, but you could make it cute by abbreviating to Evie.
