@Pepper6 if you would just finish outlander, then I won't have to shun you. Because I think we have the same taste in books! Loved immortals after dark but I need to get caught back up. Sherrylin Kenyon (spelling?) also had a few series that are addicting and similar. Looking forward to demonica!
In the same genre: Kate Daniels series by Illina Andrews The hollows series by Kim Harrison Fever series and highlander series by Karen Marie moning Black dagger brother hood by jr ward
Have any of you Outlander fans read any of the Lord John Grey Series or her short novellas? I'm tempted but I also think I won't be drawn in without Jaime and Claire.
ETA: For all of you that haven't read them yet. Get on it. Then you can watch the series... Imagine this with a Scottish accent.

I did read then john grey series. It has Jamie it in so that's nice. It helped to wean me off outlander but you aren't really missing anything. John grey always kind of bored me. There is a novella I have been meaning to read but just haven't gotten around to it.
I typically skip the novellas in most series (there are a few excepts where there are some key events in them so I read them). They usually don't do much for me unless I am seriously going through withdrawals when I finish a series.
@gardeniagirlknits - I like the idea of every 6 weeks. This would give everyone a chance to read and then we can do a GTKY question as we discuss the book. I think we could do a week TTCBC (Trying to Conceive Book Club) Check - In. Then we can chat about what we like in each book.
I'm super pumped about this, but let's try to focus. What if we started it next week (or the week of Christmas) in order to give people a chance to finish their current books? I think I've noticed a few recommendations on this thread like these from @furbabymom2007:
Kate Daniels series by Illina Andrews The hollows series by Kim Harrison Fever series and highlander series by Karen Marie moning Black dagger brother hood by jr ward
Or we could try "All the Light." I thought I saw that a few times in here.
I'm just trying to get us back on track, because I could talk books all day long. I'm just trying to help organize and get a book picked out.

@MRSCORKER I have kindle unlimited. It's $10/month and you get up to 10 books at a time. It's an okay deal if you read a lot, but even then it can be a little limiting because many of the top books are not offered on unlimited. Some months are better for me than others, as far as the value I get out of it, but it's still an okay service.
Book club! I would love to join, if you'll have me. Right now, I am just finishing up Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. I had Kafka on the Shore lined up next. I have only read Hard Boiled Wonderland by Haruki Murakami before, but it was pretty enjoyable in the right kind of mood, so I want to explore his books further.
I don't know if we should do stand alone novels though?
Personally I tend to like series and trilogies better. Maybe we just do book 1 s? But I will read stand alone stuff too.
I agree with you, I totally prefer series. But sometimes you have to give a series a couple of books to get hooked. I've read a few where the first one was crappy but the rest were better from there.
Edited to add that I also will read standalones if I have reason to.... Like a book club or something
All the Light We Cannot See and Girl On a Train are both on my nightstand as the next books to be read!
6 weeks to read a book sounds reasonable. I have never really read any series but that seems like a big commitment for a book club?
Currently reading: Stoner by John Williams on audio (just figured out how to download these from my library and it's awesome!) and Go Set A Watchman (hard copy) by Harper Lee.
I am totally in!!! So excited. I just purchased "Did You Ever Have a Family" on my Kindle but haven't started it yet. I'm down for a series or single book. I've been wanting to read All the Light. I purchased it but never started!! Woooohoooo! So excited!

Based on what I'm seeing, I think we could either start with a series, but it sounds like "All the Light" has garnered more interest than the others? Am I right?
What if we start "All the Light" on December 14th? Would that give people enough time to go get (or download) a copy?
This means we'd have until January 22nd, with weekly check-ins?
People can come and go as they please, and we can check on everyone's progress. I don't want it to become like school, but maybe we assign chapters each week to avoid spoilers? I think a weekly Monday check-in should be sufficient?
Hello! I am down for a book club too! I try to get through about one a week, although I am at a lull right now.
Just before Thanksgiving I finished "Crazy Rich Asians" by Kevin Kwan. It was hilarious and sentimental at the same time. It's about an American Born Chinese girl who is dating who she thinks is an average guy. He invites her to go home with him for the summer, but it turns out he is a crazy rich asian who has such mega-wealth he is unheard of by the most elite. It was very, very good. I am looking forward to reading the sequel. I think they are making a movie too.
Sounds perfect!! I am excited to finally read this book!!!

@MRSCORKER - I ALWAYS suggest "Blink"...it's in the 3rd season of New Who (The newer episodes). Watch that episode. If you like it, start back at the beginning of New Who and go from there. I had friends who made the mistake of starting at the very beginning and they lost interest. David Tennant is MY Doctor. I love him, but the newest one, Peter Capaldi, is definitely growing on me.
If you like Doctor Who, you should look into Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch.

I second starting with "Blink" that's how I got my hubby hooked! Also Sherlock is amazing. @BerkeBaby have you watched Broadchurch?
@FerdieFox - I sure have! LOVE IT! I was really disappointed with Gracepoint (it was the US version). Definitely not as good...
I watched Gracepoint and liked it. I've debated starting Broadchurch. Damn... now I have like 50 books to read and 2 more series to watch!
---------------qbf----------
I'm not even that into crime drama and I loved Broadchurch. I know what you mean though, my book list is so long and I have like 5 animal behavior books that I bought and haven't read yet. Luckily I have a months break from school and nothing better to do over Christmas!
Yayyyy, so excited about All The Light. I'm about 35% of the way through it so I'll hang on until yall catch up
I like the idea of "assigning" chapters. At the very least, we can say "no spoilers past chapter xx" to keep people on track and make sure nothing gets ruined.
@BerkeBaby I think that's just a teacher reflex - I have it, too! I think it would be courteous to put a quick warning at the beginning of each week's post - something like "this thread may contain spoilers up to chapter 10." That way, if people weren't caught up, they could skip the thread until they're on track. On the flip side, people can cruise ahead if they feel like it, and just know not to discuss anything spoilery until the appropriate time.

I really just want to go home from work and read now...
Also, check out your local library... I download a lot of audiobooks through mine. Totally free!! They typically use the One click digital or overdrive apps.
Mine also has a home delivery option where they will deliver book or audiobooks discs to your doorstep. Again for free! Then you just drop them off at the book slot when you are done.
My dh does this audiobooks from the library this way! It's the only way he "reads"
