STM (or more) - When did you first feel the baby move?

For the ladies who've had the pleasure of being pregnant before, when did you first start feeling your baby kick or move? I'm just curious! :) Currently, I'm 10 weeks and I've looked around online a bit to get an idea of when you would start to feel them moving around.  Dr Google says roughly between 16-25 weeks as an average.

Re: STM (or more) - When did you first feel the baby move?

  • First time I felt flutters at 19 weeks. Everyone is different! Sometimes I swear I feel flutters now even though I know it's not possible, just a feeling you don't forget I guess.

  • I was about 14 weeks, but I didn't feel it again for over a week. Everyone is different though! (Yes I know it wasn't gas)
  • I think it was closer to 25 weeks for me to feel even the flutters. I can't remember exactly, but it was definitely toward the middle of my "20s" before I felt anything. Then the kicks really started up in the late 20s/early 30s, where they were distinct.

I definitely wouldn't expect to feel them until closer to 20 weeks, but you never know.

  • I was 12/13 weeks, but it was more like flutters and I didn't know what it was at the time. No true kicks (that my husband could feel) until right before my 20 week ultrasound.
  • With my first I started noticing them around 15/16 weeks, so I'm anxious to see with this one if it's much higher earlier since I know what to expect

I think I was about 19 weeks. It was a very definite, unique feeling. For me it didn't feel like a flutter--more like a tiny muscle spasm in my tummy, or like something flip-flopped around in there. By week 22 it was definite kicks that you could feel from the outside.
  • I started feeling flutters at 17 weeks.
  • I was 15 or 16 weeks and I was eating a tuna sandwich on my couch. I remember the moment very clearly. It didn't happen on a regular basis for a few more weeks though.
  • I was 18 weeks when I first felt DS kick.  It was a TRUE kick.  I never felt "flutters".  About a week later my DH could feel it on the outside, I think that it is pretty rare for someone else to feel it that quick, but it was super exciting to get it share that with him.

    First - 16w
    Second - 14.5w

These were the points when it became regular and there was no mistaking it, for me.
  • 22 because I am chubby and had an anterior placenta
  • 18 or 19 weeks. I'm curious this time around since most feel it sooner.
  • I started to feel them with DD around 24 weeks.
  • Around 18 weeks with both my first and second. It felt like little zaps, like a lightning bug in my tummy.
  • I didn't feel an obvious baby movement until about 23 weeks. Since I had been told I could feel him as early as 18 weeks, I was unnecessarily anxious about the fact that I didn't feel him! He more than made up for it in the following weeks. ;)
  • 16 weeks with my first and 15 weeks with my second. Just consistent flutters though...actual kicks in the early 20s week range. Husband couldn't feel the baby from outside until about 22 weeks.

  • I felt him moving at 17 weeks. It felt like a fish wiggling vigorously.

  • I actually don't even remember the exact week... I wonder if I wrote it in her baby book?

It's funny lately I've felt what feels like the early little flutters. I'm only 8 weeks so I know 100% it's just gas or in my imagination, but it's making me happy because the baby movements were one of the only things I enjoyed about being pregnant! I can't wait for them to start again.

I do remember that with DD once I could feel the movements on the outside it still took weeks before DH got to feel it. Poor guy - literally every time he would sit near me she would stop kicking! I told him (and actually I do think it's true) that his voice must have been interesting or soothing to her and she stopped wriggling around to listen to him. Once we figured that out he tried sneaking over quietly and touching my belly before speaking and it worked, he finally got to feel a kick.
  • I first felt flutters at 16 weeks and DH was able to feel kicks at 19 weeks.

  • I first felt flutters at 13w 4d. Yes.......I am the one who writes it all down :).
  • I think flutters around 18 weeks. It felt like a light tickle on the inside.
  • Late... Like 22 or 24 weeks. Of course I was worried haha. Always with the worry...

  • I think it really depends on where your placenta is located, I could feel them internally at about 22 weeks but could feel from the outside until closer to 25 weeks but I had an anterior placenta so it was normal.
  • I didn't feel flutters ever. Kicks started around 19 weeks. I'm worried this time around I'll miss them since phantom kicks never stopped after my first was born
  • Hmm I don't remember for sure but I think around 20 weeks - I had an anterior placenta which is why it was later like some PP have mentioned.

  • Around 16 weeks.
  • 17 weeks with my first. 12 weeks with both of my boys. Once you know what you're looking for, it seems a little more obvious. :)
  • I'm sure I felt flutters, but I wrote them off as gas. I didn't feel definite kicks until after 20 weeks. By the time I was sure they were kicks, you could feel them from the outside.

At first and for a long while, I could only feel them really low, near my pubic bone. Then one day- BAM- I could feel them above my belly button. My placenta was anterior, so until he was a decent size I couldn't feel kicks through it- just above and below.

Btw, anyone else out there NOT particularly enjoy the feeling of movement? I know it's very important to know health of your baby, and a nice reassurance when they finally roll over when they haven't moved all day, but more often than not I really didn't enjoy it. Towards the end the kicks are painful, and may have lead to a few wardrobe changes when the bladder was involved. And the rolling was always nauseating. Literally like being on a roller coaster- but without the fun parts.
