Trying to Get Pregnant

GTKY: What are you getting hubby for Xmas?

Need some inspiration ladies! We all know men are hard to shop for. What are you planning on getting him (besides hopefully a BFP)?

A BFP would be the best, but I don't think it's going to happen (still haven't had my period after going off BCP in Sept, but my doc is switching offices and my appt with my obgyn isn't until January!).

I'm trying to do the whole "let's not do anything" thing, but I don't think he's going to bite. :( I'll probably get him an online gift card for his favorite motorcycle shop or something like that. I usually am on top of my game with presents, but this year has been tough.

Ideas from previous gifts (if it helps anyone): center ice/front row hockey tickets and hotel (quick weekend getaway 3 hours away), tickets to see his favorite comedian, expensive bottle of bourbon (aged 100 years or something crazy), a $300 gift certificate at our favorite tattoo shop... I know there's more but I can't remember them right now.

ETA: I'm an idiot and forgot. So, it's kind of his Christmas and birthday gift (birthday is in January), but I got a free cruise when I bought my car (a legit one, too!). I'm upgrading it from a 5/4 Bahamas type cruise to a 11/10 Alaska cruise. He's always wanted to go there. The upgrades are still pricey though so I'm considering it his present!

ETA: another past idea popped into my head so I added it.

  • Since we tend to buy things we want when we want them, it's always hard to think of gifts for DH. Usually I will buy concert tickets or something along those lines. I think it's more fun to have an experience than get an actual object as a gift. Plus then I get to have fun too :)

This year though I'm doing something different. DH always talks about how he wishes he had his own "man cave". Basically he wants a place where he can go when I don't want to watch basketball with him! We are moving soon, so I'm going to get him a new tv so he can start his "man cave" in our new place. I think he'll be pretty excited.

  • I got him an Apple Watch. We usually don't do super expensive gifts for each other but he's been really wanting one and his bday (Nov) was pretty low key. Also I may or may not have been a hormonal maniac lately so he prob deserves it. ;)

In the past, I've often gotten tickets to sporting events/shows as gifts for him because I think making memories at events can be better than just some random gift! I've also done typical things like new nice wallet, cuff links, etc. Also hiking gear because that's somethings he's really into. I agree though, men are tough to shop for!
  • @SLou24 I got DH an apple watch, too! He hasn't mentioned wanting one but he never really asks for anything. I think he'll have fun with it!
    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • We don't exchange gifts either. We usually shop the after xmas sales and buy a big together purchase ( tvs in the past) or we plan a vacation for summer.
  • Ooooh I'm so excited. I love buying gifts. I haven't figured out his small Christmas Eve present yet (probably superhero underwear), but his Christmas present is a Sphero BB-8. I'm VERY excited for Christmas this year. I can't wait to give him his present. And also to play with it.

  • DH and I just listed our house and are in the process of buying a new one so no presents this year :( i love buying presents so I'm a little sad but I know it will be worth it!

Usually we like to get Broadway tickets or see a comedy show...anything fun that we can do together is always a plus.
  • I got DH the complete Star Wars series. He's always loved those movies, yet he's never owned them. He's planning to go see the new movie on opening night with his friend, so he'll be excited to get these on Christmas.
  • DH and I have an agreement that we can't buy ourselves anything between thanksgiving and Christmas to make shopping easier. I think DH will be getting an XBox One this year.
  • Well we just bought a new truck which he has wanted for a while, but I'm also getting him a rain jacket because he had to get rid of his old one and we live in the PNW.. Lame but usefull :)

  • No clue. We're toying with the idea of going on vacation in January or February instead of buying each other gifts.

I love doing this for my parents! They buy things when they want them so I prefer to give them experiences they might not have thought of. If you check out Living Social they have great deals for escapes and experiences. My parents just moved to a new city so I used LS to get them two all day passes to all the public attractions in their new town. It's unique and they love the adventures we send them on.

  • We don't usually go too craxy with gifts, but we like the experience thing too. One year we went to the Gaylord National hotel & did their ice exhibit, everything is made of ice & they give you parkas to wear because it's freezing in there & we've done stuff we need too. I try to find him a unique gift item, he likes clocks so last year I got him a cool american flag clock from Etsy? He's a superman fanatic & we do ornaments for the tree each year for each other. But guys are hard..... Usually we make lists so the other has ideas too but he gets mad because he doesn't want to get me a flat iron even though I really need & want a new one, he wants to do unique stuff. Or he ignores my list fir him completely & gets me a GPS because that's what he thinks I need......
  • @LittleMissTimeLord Best. Present. Ever! I kinda want an army of Sphero BB-8s in my life.

    This year my husband gets:

    - One Astro a50 headset. That thing is a beast. Astro has amazing performance gaming headsets, at various price ranges. It's an awesome gift if you have a difference of opinion about the best Dota2 announcer pack, or just don't want to hear Guild Wars ever again. If you aren't an online shopper, Best Buy has them too.

    - One giant Lego set (haven't decided which one yet). Awesomeness is self-explanatory.

  • I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am getting him a GoPro HERO+. He has wanted one of these things for years, and I have never given in... We are into a lot of outdoor stuff like cycling, hiking, and skiing, but I foresee this [very expensive] item sitting unused it's entire life. Sigh. His smile when he opens it will be worth it though.

  • Hopefully a BFP. I've O'd on CD15 for 5 cycles and have a 10 day LP. If I O on CD15 this cycle, 10 DPO will be Christmas Day.

I'm getting him the new Star Wars computer game. We're hoping to go on vacation in February and are pricing out infertility treatments so we decided to get small gifts for each other so we'd have something to open on Christmas and save our money for the vacation and (hopefully) baby.

  • So perhaps I should be embarrassed to admit that I don't know what at least 2 of these things are: Sphero and GoPro. I must be getting old!

I still need to figure out a gift. DH is the worst. He asks for gift cards! Where is the fun in that? Thinking of maybe a FitBit since he has expressed interest, but all the different kinds confuse me so need to do some research!
  • We're taking a trip to St. Thomas for our gift to each other this year! :)
  • I should have a BFP or AF by Christmas Eve (if I'm regular this cycle), so that would be cute! If not/either way, we decided to do Christmas stockings this year. I'm going to stuff it with candy and fancy jerky and fireman themed socks. Maybe a GameStop gift card so he can buy his next game "guilt free".
  • @MNturnsVA We do the ice exhibit every year at Opry! (We live close) It's really neat, and the hotel is always beautiful with lights and Christmas decorations!

@RB777 We are doing St. John in April, and have to fly in to St. Thomas, and ferry over. It's our first time in the Virgin Islands. Have you been before?

We're hoping this is the last year we can spoil each other for Christmas and will I stared be spoiling a child

  • DH just finished up grad school in May. His Masters degree is still sitting in the folder he got at the commencement ceremony. For part of his Christmas gift, I'm going to have it framed for him.  I'll probably get him a few small things as well.

  • We don't buy each other presents. Sometimes we count our early winter trip (usually Jan or feb) as a sort of Christmas present. This year we are going to a family Disney trip (my family) and going on a cruise (just the two of us) the week after! It's a two weeker and we can't wait! I'm a little sad bc when I originally planned it I had hoped it would be a baby-moon but my body most likely has other plans. We will have a blast anyway and I'll try not to let it get me down.
  • Well I'd really love to give him a BFP (but it would be too early to test at Christmas boo). I got mine a Swarovski necklace for men. I ordered it online and got it shipped to my parents. He kept pointing out how they have jewellery for men. I think that was a hint. I also got him a men's care package from Rocky Mountain Soap online. Things such as soap, body butter, shaving cream etc. I've used their products before and I think he would really like it.
  • I got mine Bose noise canceling earbuds, a bunch of new clothes, a Tervis tumbler from his undergrad school, a running shirt, and ice molds in the shape of the Death Star. I predict the last item will be his favorite.
  • So jealous of everyone's husbands getting cool Star Wars stuff. I'm sure they will love it! I keep hinting at dueling lightsabers so we can do choreographed fights together, but I don't think DH is getting the hint. I even planted myself in front of the new Force FX display for 10 minutes, then went on a long rant about UltraSaber being better/more customisable/battle ready.

  • Dh hates suprises and is super picky. He was the type that side eyed wedding gifts not on the registry. He buys what he wants when we can afford it and never feels the need to justify it as long as it's in budget. This makes it difficult. Usually we just get something big we want... TV, new snow parks, a trip... Ect... And that's that. I can't wait to have a LO to buy for :/

I seriously think we could be friends.

I wanted to get him tickets to the movie which is sold out here in NYC for weeks but then his boss went and got him tickets for opening night. I'm all "Way to outdo me, man!" He and his boss have been known to go on man-dates to superhero movies but at least I will be included in their date night this time. If I wasn't I would have taken H's ticket for myself and poured him a bourbon with a Death Star ice cube so he could console himself while I was at the movie.
  • **Question**
Does anyone have any suggestions for websites that sell reasonably priced NFL Jerseys? DH has a Ray Rice jersey that he got years ago and now won't where it for obvious reasons.

@iceandsnowflakes29 A go pro is such a good idea! DH has been saying we should get one as well but I too see us using it on Christmas Day and then never again. We are going on vacation in February so maybe we could use it then! Would need the waterproof case though so there's more money.

Yeah, that's pretty intense! lol. I feel like by the time I bought the go pro and all the attachments we would need to use it in the water, I'll have spent twice as much as I intended and there are still other things I want to get! Plus, we just spent a ton on the trip itself so maybe I need to reign it in.
