Anyone else still trying to hide their pregnancy?

I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow, and with this being my third pregnancy, I am really beginning to look pregnant and not just like I ate too much pizza. I was hoping to hide it for a couple more weeks for various reasons (basically, my in laws are jerks) but that's starting to seem unrealistic!

Re: Anyone else still trying to hide their pregnancy?

  • I'm just under 12 weeks but also still trying to hide, and it's getting super obvious. I can suck in my extra chub but there's a big obvious bump at the bottom of it that I am powerless to hide. I have a few billowy shirts that I pretty much wear every time I have to see friends and family :P and it's a little easier because I work from home so I only occasionally have to go into an office and hide it from coworkers. My biggest beef right now is the panels on my maternity jeans all go so low that I have to really fight to make sure they stay completely hidden by my top! Come on pants, work with me!

  • Yep! I'm just over 12 weeks and have only told a few ppl. We are telling in laws this weekend and not sure when we will tell friends. I have been having a lot of cramping and mild spotting this pregnancy so we have wanted to wait to make sure all is ok. I think after our ultrasound Monday we will slowly start to tell friends
  • I'm not nearly as far along, only 10w 3d, but I'm hoping to conceal as long as possible. I'm heavier so I'm thinking that I can hide my bump until week 16-18. Fingers crossed.
  • I'm keeping it under wraps until at least 14 weeks. Thus far, only a handful of people know, my parents, my in laws, DH's grandparents and my boss (I work with chemicals that are teratogenic and special accommodations had to be made to ensure fetal safety). Otherwise, we're telling more extended family at Christmas and then we'll start to tell friends as we see them. I'm just hoping as a FTM, the bump stays down long enough to accommodate this plan!
  • I'm 11.5 weeks, first timer, so I don't have much of a bump yet. However, I am bloated beyond belief, and eating helps my nausea, so I've put on a little chub as well. I'm a teacher and I know a handful of parents are starting suspect I'm pregnant. Doesn't help that, when asked by a (super awesome!) parent what I wanted one morning from Starbucks, I had to reiterate that I wanted a decaf when earlier in the year I was all about the caffeine.

My issue is that I want to announce via social media around Christmas (I'll be 14 weeks then), but I don't want to tell my coworkers until after my NT scan checks out. Our NT scan is the day before my school lets out for winter break, so it only gives me that one last work day to announce at work! Otherwise, so many of my coworkers are also social media friends, so I'll feel badly not telling them before a Facebook post. Ugh, awkward timing!

Anyone that doesn't suspect I'm pregnant must just think I'm grumpy and getting fat. Which is kinda true too, I guess. ;)

Obviously every person and pregnancy is different but I remember last year when I was pregnant with DD. One of my bosses was going out of town for 5 weeks so I felt I had to tell him at 12 week so he wouldn't get a shock with my "bump" on his return. I was sure at that point the others would know and he would be pissed I didn't tell him. Well fast forward to week 17 and he came back and I looked the same as when he left me. For me it was like 18-19 weeks that I couldn't hide it anymore. So FX your FTM strong belly muscles will play ball for you too.

  • Yes baby #4 here and im not really showing yet.
We are planning to announce on xmas to family and a few days later on fb.
I have DH's work party tomorrow and would love to be able to wear one of my dresses without an obvious bump, but its so hit or miss on if you can see it or not because its just bloat still so I wont know until the night of I guess.
After DH's work party though I'll be golden, lol.

  • I'm 13+2, and still hiding it from mostly everyone. Our immediate families know, and a few close friends, but we're not announcing publicly (like on social media) until NYE. No reason why, other than we are enjoying keeping the news to ourselves this time. I'm hoping I can make it that long without it being too obvious! I'll be slightly over 17 weeks then.

I hear you on this. I'm pretty sure everyone thinks I'm just depressed and putting on weight.
  • We are trying to keep it quiet at the moment. Nearly 14 weeks and really starting to show. I definitely think people must think I have put on a few pounds but maybe they are just too polite to say anything. I am happy to keep it quiet for as long as possible. We will see how much longer that might be.
  • Desperately trying to keep it quiet until mid to late January. It's end of year performance evaluation time and I'm up for a big promotion, but if they find out I'm pregnant I definitely won't get it. I know that's illegal discrimination but it's just the way it is at my company (and so hard to prove). If I'm pregnant, they know I won't leave until after my maternity leave (not that it's even paid - have to use my sick and vacation time) so they won't have any motivation to promote me /(despite it being well deserved and overdue). And I really need this promotion/raise so I can afford daycare for 3 kids!

However, I'm 12 weeks, it's my second and I'm carrying twins so I'm going to need to be really creative with my wardrobe choices. It's probably an impossible task as I definitely have a bump but I'm overweight to begin with so I'm hoping that will help/ be an excuse.

    Keeping my fingers crossed!
  • Yep- I share the "grumpy and fat" situation. Though I think "lazy" also applies. I will hopefully be able to share in another 1.5 weeks and can't wait.
  • I'm 11 weeks, STM, and showing. I popped out the weekend of my BIL's wedding, about two weeks ago. I have gained about four pounds so it's a little chub as well, but my bloat is significantly down. I'm not hiding it, exactly, but I'm not telling anyone. I'm having at Cerclage put in on 12/14, so I had to tell HR, but my boss is on trial and I am not telling him until he is back.

  • @Philter14 I'm 11 weeks and a STM as well- at 11 weeks with my first my stomach was flat... what a difference.
  • Those of you FTMs should be able to keep it a secret for a bit longer! Fingers crossed. I could hide it with my first and even my second until at least 20-25 weeks. I just had to be careful about what sort of tops I wore.

@chesterdoodle, that sounds really stressful. Good luck! I hope you're able to pull it off successfully! I've been wearing a lot of flowy shirts and sweaters with a long scarf around my neck that hangs over my stomach. Makes it more difficult for people to stare at my stomach and try and figure out if there's a little bump down there. Maybe that would help, if your work dress code allows it.
  • I'm hiding it for at least another week or two at work, but it is getting tricky. If you didn't know me you wouldn't really guess, but if you do and I wear the wrong thing it's pretty obvious. Lessons I've learned: avoid silky fabrics, even if loose and rock a long scarf that you drape over your belly when sitting. I just complain the office is too cold and never take the thing off. I'm sure some people suspect, but who would say anything?
  • I'm 14 weeks today and starting to show a little bit. Its probably not super obvious to everyone else but it is getting difficult to hide that something is going on since I had such a flat stomach before. We're taking our announcement photo Monday afternoon and I'm just planning to let my co-workers find out when I post it on Facebook that evening. That being said, I onlybhave to hide it at work for one more day before I can toss the baggy sweaters out the window!

  • @mamabudd woo hoo! It feels like such a major milestone! Here's to more energy and less nausea!

  • FTM and I work a job that is contractual. I'm holding on telling my boss until I officially sign the contract for January-May. I need the money to pay for the little sprout inside of me! :-)
  • 13 weeks and only a few people know.. we haven't told our families yet and are holding off until Christmas. It's getting harder to hide!.
  • I am hoping to hide it from my students until after Winter Break at least. I will be 16.5 weeks then, so I think it will start to be pretty obvious. I am showing a little now by the end of the day but luckily it is cold enough here for big sweaters and sweatshirts.
Edited because I am an English teacher and that's what we do.

  • Yes from my other kids and sisters and parents til Christmas. It's not hard as I'm not showing
  • How old are your kids @cmillar36? Mine are only 5 and (almost) 3 and I was so relieved when I could finally tell them about the pregnancy after an ultrasound at about 10.5 weeks, because they kept asking me why I always had a headache, always lied down on the couch and never made proper dinners anymore, haha.
  • I have been a grumpy and tired teacher too! I'm not telling work until I got back after Christmas break at least, when I'll be 14 weeks. My close friends and family know though.
  • @mamabudd same. Almost 5 and nearly 3. It's not that hard. I'm not showing. But do have morning sickness. I just had an ulttasound on Thursday but it didn't go well. So we Are waiting til after the next one to tell.

@Wepplo your story is just like mine except I'm about a week ahead. Decaf coffee, suspicious looks from coworkers, my 8th graders asking why I was so crabby when I've been nice to them the past 2 yrs (I teach middle school SS so I have them 3 consecutive yrs), etc. Well, I had my NT scan last Monday and decided to announce at school on Tuesday with a Christmas shirt that says "'tis the season to be pregnant". I'm a FTM so the kids are ecstatic because "Mrs. C is having a baby!!!!!" Lol Everyone is beyond excited especially my 8th graders! The amount of love & support is overwhelming and I feel such a relief being able to talk about it. Plus, the kids are behaving so much better! I'm excited for you to share the news with your school ♡ good luck! XO
  • I'm also at a school- a VP. I have been extra "firm" (haha) with students lately and it'll be great when I can tell them. I work with teenagers and they were so lovely with my first pregnancy.
Last time my principal waited till they'd found my replacement to announce the news formally in the Friday newsletter. I'm hoping that's not the approach this time cause I'll be huge by then (and I now write the weekly newsletter so it's funny to imagine my own announcement... "congratulations to me..." haha).
  • I'm only 11 weeks but with 5th pregnancy I'm popping out there. My mom is having heart surgery in January and I really wanted to wait until after that. She's not going to be happy about it so I wanted to wait until after her surgery.

  • I'm 12 weeks now and so far only family and a few friends, HR and my boss know. I'm debating if I want to announce now or if I want to wait a few more weeks.  I might just wait until the 14th week.

  • I'm 12 weeks and I was trying to hide it until around 20 but I had to tell my boss Friday because I have a 3 hour appointment on Monday and he would have pushed about what the appointment was for. Wanted to hide it because I'm worried about it affecting a job promotion I'm possibly up for. Another girl at work is pregnant right and came out a few weeks before me and I've already heard talk about how her maternity leave is playing a part on if she is promoted.

  • @susiec923 I love your story! I hope mine goes as well! Part of me is nervous about kindergarteners and the questions they might ask, but I think they are going to be so excited and I already know to steer all questions back towards their parents, lol. I also hope that the news helps my coworkers understand why I don't want to take on a ton of extra responsibilities this year, when I'd been willing to in years past. :)

Yeah, that's discrimination, and you are a witness to those rumors. I don't know how your work operates, but all you should have to say is you are having a medical appointment and it's private. It's illegal for them to pry about that, Hippa and all.

  • Still hiding it here at 12 weeks!  Not too bad- the jeans I wear to work are low enough to accommodate my blump, and I wear loose t-shirts.

I'm making sure no one knows this time- last time I was being super cautious and told my boss at 5 weeks because a lot of the materials we work with are less than ideal: I'm a mural artist/scenic artist (for tv/film)/ interior faux finisher, and I just thought he should know.  Since I'm a freelancer, I figured he'd keep me off the questionable jobs and call me in when work I could safely do was available.  NOPE.  He just simply never called.(Which mean 2.5 months of no work, and then having to explain when there was no baby).
So this time I wised up, bought a very good expensive respirator, I ask others to carry heavy things, and I do shorter days.
SO far no one has sniffed me out.

Hoping to making it sometime into January at least.  Sucks that they think I"m just getting fat, but eh....what does their opinion matter?
     I'm growing a person.

  • Still hiding here.... 11w2d. We will come out with the news at Christmas. I'm going nuts and just want to tell people!!
  • I'm 13 weeks today and still trying to hide it at work until I can see/tell my boss. She's been away at a conference and is now on vacation, and I'd really like her to be the first to know so she doesn't somehow hear through the grapevine. Hoping I can see her later this week, if not it will be next. I've been careful when selecting my clothes in the morning and am looking forward to not having to attempt to look not pregnant soon!

We'll announce broadly once the work box is checked. Lots of friends and family already know.
  • I am so looking forward to not trying to hide it too! It just makes me look and feel like a whale. If I could just embrace the little bump maybe I would feel somewhat cute.
  • I'm not trying to hide it anymore, but I am 11+3 and I am already starting to show.  This is my second baby and I never really showed much with my first until the very end.  I felt like if I waited any longer people would start asking me so I just told everyone that I am close to this past week/weekend.  I was over weight when I found out I was pregnant and have lost enough weight now that I cannot simply just hide my little bump easily.

I felt a lot less stressed after I told everyone.

  • Yeah that's how I am anticipating I will feel as well! It'll be such a relief. Just have to make it til Friday, otherwise I will be forced to deal with my husband's grandfather, who told us we should be ashamed of ourselves when we announced our pregnancy with our second. I'm not ready to face him, and if I can hold out til Friday I won't have to see him again until later in the new year which will give him plenty of time to chill the heck out about it.
  • 14w3d and only the necessities know.  I just told my boss (finally), but none of my other colleagues know.  I also haven't posted anything on Facebook.  We just let our grandparents know yesterday... but as a STM I feel enormous.  So baggy clothes will only get me so far.
