I agree. I think breastfeeding is a beautiful thing, I just don't see the need to post pictures of it. I wouldn't post a picture of my kid eating a sandwich, so why would I post a picture of them feeding from my breast? It's not even that I think it's sexual or gross, because it most definitely is not - the fact is that you're nourishing your child. That's it. No need to advertise a simple, human function to the rest of the world via social media.
To piggyback off of your UO...I commend women who feel confident enough to breastfeed in public. If that's what you choose to do, that's great! However, I don't think I will ever do so in public. I will most definitely breastfeed if I'm able to, but I feel like it's something I will choose to keep private.
*** Edited for clarification on the public breastfeeding comment, that I don't think I will do so in public unless a situation came up where it was absolutely necessary. Not saying I NEVER would, but I would rather do so in private.
-----stuck in the box------ @mrsschmity FWIW, I BF DD for a year and never NIP. It was my preference and I was more comfortable that way. If we were out and about, I had pumped milk just in case, or I would just go to the car or a bedroom. When we went on long road trips, I pumped in the car. It wasn't a big deal to me.
So many acronyms in that first sentence.
June 2016 April Siggy Challenge: Reasons my kid is crying
Omg @Lilwatz you reminded me of the time I tried to bottle feed my daughter for an entire 8-hour car ride at 6 weeks. Nice plan, genius. I was wearing a bra with nursing pads, a tank top, a tshirt, and a big heavy hoodie, and after talking to a gas station attendant 6 hours into the trip, I looked down and realized I had COMPLETELY soaked through EVERYTHING. Not my finest hour.

@Lilwatz Oh there were nursing pads. They were completely saturated, like the rest of me. I don't know why I was such a dunce haha. I thought for some reason that occasional 10-minute feeding breaks were an unreasonable accomodation to travelling with a newborn.

My UO isn't board related like most of these but here goes. I hate the new super bright LED lights. Too harsh! I feel like it's an 80's disco everywhere I go.
I'll jump in about breastfeeding in public. Before I had my daughter I thought I'd do it, but use a cover. And all these women are always like, "WOULD YOU WANT TO EAT UNDER A BLANKET?!?!?" And in my head I was like calm down, drama llama. But, I never once fed under a cover. At home or away. I either went to another room if I didn't want to feed in front of whoever was there or I just fed. I wasn't anti-cover--I used it while pumping when my Dad visited! :P But I didn't find a need. I wore a nursing tank all.the.time, so I lifted my shirt up to just slightly above my nipple. There was literally a slit visible and my kid's disproportionately large head covered most of it anyhow. I was actually VERY surprised at how comfortable I was doing it. I just never *wanted* to nurse in public without a cover. But once it happened, it was really NBD. If I did leave the room it was usually because my kid was distracted by noises or lights and kept unlatching, so I'd do it for her to eat better.
Also, to the one who plans to pump (was that you, @mrsschmity ?). It's a fine plan and if your kid take a bottle will work fine. But what the PPs have said about needing the kid to nurse for your boobs to get some relief is no joke. We supplemented heavily with formula because my body sucks at making milk (pun intended!). When flying home for Christmas I decided to just use more formula than normal to avoid feeding everywhere. That plan fell apart fast. I had to feed her to empty out my full boobs! I also agree that it's great you're thinking of your plan early! It's so hard, but also exciting to see where you go as a mom.
I too have to jump in and say my two cents about NIP:
I was terrified of nursing in public when my DS was born. What if a creep-o takes pictures of me while nursing? What if someone gets offended by it and says something nasty? What if my nipple pops out for the whole world to see?
I tried nursing with a cover and absolutely hated it, and I could tell my DS did too. So I started nursing without it; and you know what happened? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Nobody cared or even batted an eye because there was nothing to see with my baby's head in the way anyway. I just wanted to let anyone reading this who is a FTM who's scared of nursing in public, and plans on pumping: it's okay. Really, you get used to it. And I promise you whipping out your boob is SO MUCH EASIER than pumping ahead of time before you leave the house. Also, my DS never drank from a bottle when he knew there was a boob around; he was a smart little bug I guess. Plus, when my son cried I started to leak, I can't imagine feeding my son a bottle with a full boob, that would be torture.
I am in no way trying to put down pumping mamas! Do what works for you! It's just that when your newborn needs to feed every two hours, I can promise you it's so much easier to be able to fly out your front door with just your baby, your tits, and a spare diaper
my kid also wouldn't take a bottle from me. He knew who had the magical boobies. He took one fine from everyone else - unless I was around. Babies are smart yo, they want what the want
I don't think kids should be sent to school when they're sick (within reason, of course). I am talking the kind of sick where the child is throwing up (& it had already happened prior to the school day starting), the child is unable to function at all, or the child is contagious. I totally get that finding care last minute is difficult, but it's unfair to teachers & other students to be around this. Especially while pregnant, I don't want to be around all those nasty germs. And I especially don't want to be around a kid with the chicken pox.
People send their kids to school with chicken pox? And vomiting? That's terrible!
I'd never send my children to school sick, but I am fortunate that I have a great job that allows me that flexibility. I'm sure not all parents have that option. It's too bad because you're right, it's not fair to teachers or other students.
You wouldn't believe what people send their kids to school with. I had a note in one of my kids folders just the other day that said " _______ has been throwing up all night. Send her to the nurse if she does it again." THANKS! I had THIRTEEN kids out last winter with the flu because parents send them to school. I work in a high poverty school though so I think that makes a difference.
My u/o is that I feel like I have a pretty good grip on those who frequent this bmb and contribute and make an effort to form a community and it really freaking bothers me when people post about nubs and other random fly-by posts/threads and I've never seen a post in this bmb from them before. Anyway, just my u/o. Freaking annoying...

Love it @Emztron500! I also did a road trip while pumping in the car, I just don't have a good story like that. If anything needs to be clarified, I do like that people are trying to normalize breastfeeding. I breastfeed in public at Disney and see others do it all the time, I just never liked the profile pics and all to grab others attention.
lol probably a good call on your husband's part. I felt that way about my April 2014 group. I had to give it up cold turkey and delete the app from my phone like a week after my daughter was born. I definitely cannot deal with people arguing like animals about parenting practices so much when I'm trying to figure out how the fuck to parent, period. I hope I don't have to dump you guys too when babies start popping out but I can't make any promises for hormonally screwed up, sleep-deprived post-partum Emily :P
My totally unrelated UO... I just started watching Friends for the first time since it went off air when I was like 12 (I only watched the last 2 seasons so most of what I'm seeing is new to me. I'm on season 8 now. Lots of weekends on the couch lately, haha).
Anyway. I hate Ross so much. He's so controlling and jealous and so full of himself. I cringe when he's on screen. Ugh!
So late to the party but another thing on BF. If you decide that it isn't your thing, that is OK! The baby will survive on formula. Breast is not best all the time. It is AMAZING if you can and want to do it. I admire that. But a mothers mental health is also best for baby so don't feel pressured or disappointed if it is something you decide you don't want or can't do.
I felt so much mama shaming for not "trying" breastfeeding.
(That was more preachy than opinion based wasn't it?... oh well)
Blah, I was in the car all day for my appointment so haven't been on much. As for BF I'm all boobs out man (Not literally. I wear a tank under my shirt and so only a very small portion of skin is showing) My DD hated covers. Wouldn't take a bottle from anyone and wanted to nurse all.the.time. When DS came I was so used to how she was I just went for it. I say feed that baby. I don't give a crap how you do it, just feed the baby! I really have no feeling in the symptom thread. I've participated maybe twice but usually don't even read it. Y'all can do what you want with it. Can't really come up with a UO this week. Maybe I'm just tired from the long drive in the pouring ass rain and the 50mph wind gusts. It was a fun day.
I don't post much, but in my defense, I'm still trying to get the flow of things with you ladies. Ps. I'm all about the snark.... Lol.
Anyways, my UO is the fact that people legit have a real lack of understanding for personal space. I am DREADING our family Chanukah party next weekend because I know that all of my moms cousins will be wanting to touch the belly. My sister snapped at my aunt when she was pregnant with my nephew, told her she was going to break her wrist if she touched her again. Lol. I CANT DO IT!!! But what's mind boggling to me is that some of my students (I'm a figure skating coach) who know I'm pregnant, when they give me a hug after class, some of them will lightly pat my belly and say "bye baby!", and that doesn't make me irritated. It's weird.

If that's what your plan is, I recommend practicing with a cover at home. I didn't at first and was like "oh crap, what am I doing" the first time.
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
ALLLLLL of this. For the love.
