I know I'm a mom because I'm stuck on a commuter train with a baby who is definitely screaming like a dinosaur for no reason, and while everyone else on this train is hating life, I secretly enjoy it because it reminds me of LO.
ETA I just realized it's not that I'm enjoying it, it's that I have an intense urge to find the baby and make sure she's ok!
Oh yes the hand scratchy thing and exploring! W haven't reached JP level yet but I remember it with DD1, I bet it's coming soon haha. Does anyone else's baby still NOT roll over?!?! She will be 5 months on Friday (20th) and is huge - 19 lbs... So I think that's why. But still. It's making me crazy! She can sit..but not roll!

Ours has still only rolled once from front to back, but never from back to front. She doesn't seem to show any interest in it either haha. She is also big - over 20 lbs and about 26", 20 weeks this last Saturday. She is starting to sit up just as of the past few days, but only with pillows around/behind her. I'm not too worried about it though, my MIL says that my DH never crawled, he went from sitting up to walking - she left him in the living room while she cooked dinner one night and looked up and he had decided to walk in there on his own - at 7 months and he was really "overweight" too. I think she'll just do what she wants to when she wants to haha.
LO will be 5 months on Sunday. He can get up on his side, but that's it. He's pretty heavy, but seems strong otherwise. Trying not to worry.
Like, roll enough to lay on his side? This is all my LO can do, too
Yup, he rolls onto his side, stays there for a minute or two, then flops back onto his back.
So when LO does this we all now do this fake hold our breathe and run over to observe him, even our 3 year does it. Then everyone starts laughing, LO looks around to see what the fuss is about and flops back to his back. And our three year old says dramatically"never gonna happen" We need to stop teasing before LO catches on.

If you care to, though it's not a big deal, you can hold his top knee down so it's in front of his bottom knee, touching the ground. By pinning that knee to the ground, you help him leverage his torso to roll to his belly.
Sorry if you've seen me post this before. My mother is a physical therapist an used to work with developmentally challenged kids. This is what she did with my LO to teach him to roll back to belly.
But whatever. He will do it on his own schedule. Enjoy your baby as he is - adorable, happy and healthy!
@virginiaunicorn11 I've done that leg thing with LO for a few weeks now and she's awesome at rolling like that. She just refuses to do it on her own. Babies be babies.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
^^I feel like I've done a modified version of that and LO still doesn't move. @virginiaunicorn11 Might need your Mom over here! He did pull the toy on his chair the bathroom and it sang him a song, he did it several times once he figured it out. He was a little freaked by his older brother and i clapping and high fiving. LO did something!! Yeah!
So lo has rolled over randomly since about 4 months. (Maybe 1-2 times a week) Now she's 5 months and the past 2 days has been rolling a lot more. Yesterday my fiancé said she was rolling to get her book so that's exciting! Well apparently she rolled over in her crib this morning because she was crying and I went over to get her and she was on her stomach! I guess she hasn't figured out to roll back over in the crib when she can do it on the floor. Silly girl.
Ok so we just noticed that when LO falls over (like if she's sitting and topples over) that her instinct is to put her hands behind her head. Not down, to catch herself. Like when the cops tell you to put your hands behind your head. Anyone else's kid doing this?
I have mentioned before she also sleeps with her hands behind her head, maybe it's just her thing.
DH of course thinks she's a genius because it ensures she's protecting her head!
Sorry if I missed this question somewhere, but are anyone's babies responding to their names yet? My little guy will be 6 months on the 4th and he still doesn't seem to respond to his name. I read that they should between 5-7 months so I'm not fretting just yet, I'm just more curious than anything.

Does anyone else's baby sleep with their eyes partially open? So creepy.
@hoodoll82 LO sleeps like that, too. I haven't noticed what he does when he topples, I'm interested to see.
@jamieswifeyforlifey my guy turned 5 months yesterday and sometimes he responds to his name, but I don't know yet if he just responds because it's a certain person or he knows his name.
LO doesn't consistently respond to his name yet at 5 months. I'm also interested to see when he'll start doing this, so I'm making an effort to actually call him by his name more to get him to respond. Seems like for the first 3 months of his life or so we mostly called him The Baby! He's going to think his name is Baby if we keep doing that.
I always say his name when we are looking in the mirror ("There's a baby Jasper") and when we're playing peek a boo ("Where's Jasper?") I also call his name when I'm trying to get him to look at me. Seems like he'll figure it out soon.
Everett has just started consistently responding to his name but he'll be 6 months on Monday.
Same but it's just inconsistency. I think part of that is our house being so busy. But he definitely now recognizes his name. Very new development and he's 6 months Thursday.
Does anyone else's baby totally favor one arm over the other? I know that handedness doesn't come until later, but when LO plays, her left arm is tucked down. She barely ever uses it. Makes me nervous that something is wrong, but she's not in pain when I move it.

Same here! I've been trying to be more consistent with calling him by his name because up until recently (a month or so) he's been referred to as just about every cute nickname I can think of. I mean, it's impossible not to call them cute nicknames, right? Haha! Thanks for the feedback, ladies.

Our baby searches for the dog often now. If our beagle moves out of sight, she's turning her head all over to find the dog. Once she does, she smiles really big. Too bad our dog has no interest in her yet!
Does anyone else's LO manage to pull their arm out of their shirt sleeve while napping? I always find LO with her left arm pulled out of the shirt in the afternoon.

Mine does this, and for a while I had the same fears, but he's good. He won't lift both arms in the air together, but if I lift one at a time, he extends all the way up. My PT mom says this is normal. (But obviously, as always, ask your doc if you have fears, as I'm an ignorant internet stranger!)
Yeah my guy really favors his left hand. I know it probably means nothing though because no one in either of our families are lefties..... But..... Like @virginiaunicorn11 says.... "Babies be babies" ya never know!!!
I actually went to the doctor after posting this because she also wasn't gripping things with her left, and was whincing when I bent it at the elbow. Of course we get there and she's acting pretty fine, but still seemed sore. The doc thinks that her elbow dislocated, and I must have relocated it when I was checking her arm. Said it happens pretty frequently at this age. Yikes!
@cait7425 Google "nurse maids elbow" I'm glad you went to the dr bc i was thinking that's probably what it was reading your earlier post. Glad her arm seems better!
My baby has starting reaching out to us and it's the sweetest thing ever! He also will give me kisses, looks for our lab (his favorite dog) and is able to pop up on all fours at 4 months! He also will turn his head when we call his name but not consistently.
Does anyone else's baby's bones crack an awful lot? LO's back seems to crack when I pick him up under the armpits, so I'm trying to support him by putting one hand under his butt. But his shoulders and elbows and wrists pop a lot... And now @cait7425 has me worried.
So glad you got the babe checked out, and it's nothing too serious, @cait7425. Poor baby! Did doc have any tips for the future?
@virginiaunicorn11 my LOs back pops too. I try to be careful when lifting her from under the arms. About the elbow dislocation....she said she usually sees it when parents swing their child around when walking ( one, two, three, weeee). That sort of thing. But because DD popped out once, that it is easier to happen again. So don't pull her up by her hands/wrists, hyper extend her arm, etc. I hope your guy is feeling well!
Another for the snap crackle pop of bones here, @virginiaunicorn11. His back does it and sometimes I notice when I'm putting his arms thru sleeves or something like that, too. The post above freaked me out, too, cause sometimes he will just have one arm out and doing nothing with it for awhile, but then he'll go back to using it (reaching for the bottle, using both hands to hold a toy, etc) later. I always thought he was crackle-y because I'm one of those people that can pop a lot of joints many places on my body. I thought he got my crap hinges, is all. I was a little worried about it, but feel a lot better now that I know its happening with some of you guys tootoo Edit, not vs lot

My dad actually dislocated my shoulder as a kid swinging me around. He felt horrible. I don't remember it, but I've heard the story a ton of times. I was around 3 I think.
Yeah, apparently it's really easy at this age because everything is so loose. When she told me I possibly relocated it, I was so freaked out. She said it doesn't hurt them.
@cait7425 Thanks for sharing. LO is so heavy its sometime hard to pick him up, especially from pack n play and I feel like this could happen to is, being super careful now.
I'll share our baby accident so everyone else is careful. At home LO sits in his high chair when we eat so we don't have him in our lap. He also has no interest in food and just started reaching out for things a week or two ago. So, yesterday at Thanksgiving I sat down with him on my lap and he immediately put his hand into my food, hot sweet potatoes. The candied topping burned his hand. Worse than we realized because we were looking on his palm and burn was around his fingernails. We put it under cold water but not as long as we should have and not on the right side of his hand. Anyway he is completely fine, was very happy today, but his skin is blistered and red in a fe tiny spots. I feel like the worst mom on the planet but I realize that part of this was that Im usually alone and haven't eaten a hot meal since before he was born. So trying to go easy on myself. I will never make that mistake again. I imagine all of you are already more careful and more used to eating hot food but I thought I'd share (as embarrassing as it is) so others can be aware and do better than I did! Both in avoiding this and in looking for the burn on both sides of the hand.

@henrytviii thanks for sharing, and I hope you forgive yourself 100%. Accidents happen, baby is going to be fine, and you are a good mom. I imagine it was traumatizing for both of you, though, and I feel so bad for you! Bet LO gets lots of extra kisses on his hands. My cousin's 3 year old crawled onto the table and put his hand on the griddle on one of those Japanese steakhouses. It was awful. Accidents happen, even to attentive mamas. Now you know to be vigilant, before something worse happens. So sorry your first hot meal wasn't as relaxing as it should have been!!
Thanks everyone for your responses on the creaky bones. @janit368 DH won't let me take LO to the chiropractor, so your response especially intrigued me - because I thought creaky back was a sign he needed to go! @mellymar yes to cracking when getting dressed, especially. I am careful but can and will probably be more careful.
The other day I used a regular washcloth on LO and the tag left scratches on his neck. I felt so bad. He's such a strong little chunk that I forget how fragile he still is. Poor precious baby!
