Re: BFM 11/23

  • I don't really have anything for BFM today BUT...I'm excited for it to be a super short week and to eat some good food and spend quality time with mine and DH's family!
Yes I'm definitely loving the super short week (I have Thursday/Friday off), but I'm not liking having to clean thoroughly to somewhat appease some of my neat freak relatives.

  • @rebelone thankfully but not thankfully we live 3 hours from all of our family so we never host thanksgiving. So I'll enjoy my messy house this week lol. Think happy thoughts while cleaning and listen to your favorite songs! It always helps me.
  • BFM to DH, who is requesting/demanding we cook a Thanksgiving me JUST for ourselves. On Sunday, because we're going to a friend's place for Thanksgiving. I've never cooked a turkey, much less an entire Thanksgiving meal, and he rarely eats leftovers so it'll be me stuck eating all of it. I'm stressing already. I get why he wants to make a special day for just the two of us, but I don't think he understands how much work it's going to be for me.

Maybe one of the rotisserie chickens from the grocery store? My ILs did that when it was just the 4 of us. Plus then you don't even have to cook it, just heat it up.

  • @NOLA520 @mrstrax we went shopping and got the turkey already. It *has* to be a whole turkey as well. I guess he could make worse requests...

I've been pretty grief stricken over Thanksgiving dinner. I don't want to cook for just the two of us, and it's so expensive for all that food. When he said his parents would be in PA and my grandma moved over four hours away, I knew I'd get stuck doing it. I just spent the past forty five minutes sobbing on the phone to my mother about having to do it, to be told "You're a mother now, you can't be so selfish anymore. You're husband deserves better." (Why did I call her in the first place????)

I honestly would rather go to a homeless shelter, or a soup kitchen, and volunteer but that's beneath my fiancé. I'm just not having a good day. Is 5:30 too early to throw in the towel and go to bed?
  • @AmadorRose - Any chance you can convince him to be in charge of grilling or deep fry it?  It's a very manly type of turkey prep, and would take a substantial amount of work off your shoulders.
  • Ugh. Today has been ten years since my mom passed away. I posted something nice about her on my Facebook and my "grandma" on my dad's side commented about how wonderful she was and just went on and on. My only memory of my "grandma" growing up was when I was about ten years old and I answered the house phone and she said, "Is the b*tch (my mom) there?" I didn't even know who it was until my mom told me. She's one of those ladies who will hug you and stab you in the back at the same time, but I try to be nice. I know that my dad wants a relationship with his mother now that my mom's gone, but it's taking every bit of will power I have not to comment back something awful or just block her.

What a miserable thing to have to deal with (and a miserable memory to have to confront) on what is already probably a miserable day. I'm sorry she's making this so much harder for you; good for you for being nice, because I certainly don't think anyone could blame you if you weren't.  Internet hugs if you want them.

I would rather do it myself - DH can barely handle spaghetti. I'm going to make a bunch of freezer dump meals come 3rd tri because once I go back to work, he'll be staying home with LO and I would rather not eat spaghetti and tostadas every. Single. Night.

@Knottie9983816 don't be too upset about not going to a shelter - thanksgiving and Christmas are pretty much the only days of the year that they have more than enough help...though I'd probably slap "too good" out of DH's mouth if it ever came tumbling out. Every day, one of you ladies proves to me how terrible DH really has it.
  • @AmadorRose to be fair those weren't his exact words, that was just the gist of it. You're totally right about these being the only days they actually have the help they need.

Why does no one know how to drive through a 4-way stop?

People!  It's not stop, wait for one car to go, take your turn ... it's stop, wait for EVERYONE who got there before you to go and then take your turn.  PS. if you got there at the same time as another car, the car to your right has the right-of-way.

    THE.END.

Actually, I think if there are a bunch of people there, whoever got there first should go, and then you go in a circle, regardless of who got there second.

  • I'm on my third uti this pregnancy and I'm about to loose it.
I follow all of the anti uti rules and it doesn't seem to matter.

It's so so painful and hits me like a brick wall. It also makes me worry that I'm on my third round of antibiotics and that it'll harm baby in some way.
    :(
  • @jonesl12 I am on my third round of antibiotics too :( First two were for group B strep, now it's to avoid an infection from my toe injury. Eff all of this nonsense.

Dude .... I've been responsible for the turkey the past 2 years and I swear you can't mess this up and it comes out soooo tender and juicy every-single-time!

I put a bunch of melted butter between the skin and the turkey meat itself. Sprinkle on some poultry seasoning then throw the thing in the bag ( that Ive already added the flour into) and follow the baking instructions on the bags themselves and it's always a win. Can't mess it up !!!

    https://www.reynoldskitchens.com/easy-recipes/recipe-items/thanksgiving-oven-bag-turkey/?mobile=true
Put flour in bag, shake , insert turkey that you molested with butter and seasoning , close that shit up , poke some holes in the top, bake it per the instructions and you will be a thanksgiving hero.

Edit: also @AmadorRose I don't put anything in the turkeys ass when I cook it.

@jonesl12 you should try taking the cranberry pills. Also, anytime you feel one coming on, this is going to sound crazy but drink Apple Cider Vinegar! It's always helped me.

    Edit: obviously can't type tonight.

I now have a BFM. To my new beloved puppy. Can you please be potty trained already? Can puppies in general come fully equipped with all the commands in the book and potty trained? I'm over it. DH & I came home to him in a crate full of poop and DH expects me to give the puppy a bath. First off, no, I take care of him all day and clean up after him, second, if you're going to call him your dog then you clean him up, and third, I'll clean up baby poop any day but not a crap covered dog. Sorry not sorry.

    Edit: autocorrect sucks

Ahh yes the puppy phaise. Mine used to poo and pee in his kennel then step in it so I was washing blankets and giving him a bath a few times a day. It was awful for a while but then one day he figured it out and has not pooped or peed in his kennel .

It's a ton of work, gross, and frustrating but holy crap puppies are cute. Hang in there

I'm trying! It is so hard. I'm such a neat freak and my house HAS to smell good or I go insane so I'm on the verge of going crazy right now to say the least! Just like you said, were giving him multiple baths a day. I'm hoping he catches on soon! So, sooo, sooo over the puppy phase.

Definitely try the cranberry pills also get the diet cranberry juice and drink a glass or two a day to flush out your kidneys really good, if you like cranberry juice that is. You can take a shot of it 2-3 times a day that's what I always did or if you want to dilute it put 2-3 teaspoons of the ACV in a cup of water.

Edited to include if you wanted you can make a liter of the diluted ACV to drink through out the day. Just follow those measurements and make it.

What kind of puppy do you have? DH and I have a 6-month-old lab/GSD mix and she catches on very, very quickly. She also won't mess in her cage, though I'm not sure why. The wiener dogs I used to have, though...three years after they were totally housebroken, they'd poop under my bed when they got upset. Cute but so stubborn! It's hard to stay firm but objective, but as long as you're consistent it'll come around soon. Dogs are smart - often too smart, and I think Athena trains me more than I train her.

    Why I failing.

    omg I'm literally dying hahahahaha.
I have a student who has been failing all year and does his homework approximately once a month.
He will randomly email me every few weeks like "is there any xtra credit i can do 2 help my grade?"
um. No. So I respond back that he needs to prepare consistently for class and do his homework every day, and his grade reflects his every day work and not some random extra credit assignment... and then I won't hear a word about it again until a few weeks later..

"Mrs ____, wut can i do 2 raise my grade?"

    YOUR HOMEWORK!!! ANYTHING AT ALL!!!
Yeah, I have a few of these. Homework and attendance works wonders...

  • @AmadorRose he's a Doberman. We've tried to stay so consistent. Literally taking him out every 10 mins. I'm not sure if he gets too carried away playing with our cat and he just thinks hey I'll piss on you nice carpet or what? But it's so annoying!

He generally does good but he has spouts where he's a mess! Also, like I said if we don't take him out every 10 minutes he will have an accident. He pees so much. I'm not sure if we should limit him on water? I'm hoping he catches on soon. Very, very soon!

Growing up any small dog we had no matter how long we had them or how well they were trained they would always do it out of spite and poop somewhere in the house. I think that's just how little dogs are! They can be nasty little brats!

My dog did exactly that with the regression. We've only had her for two months but they were a struggle. She also liked to chew, so now she has so many toys I can't walk through the house without kicking one. For a solid three weeks, any time she was out of her cage I watched her like a hawk. Any time she would start squatting I'd pick her up and take her outside. And when we went outside, she didn't get to come in and play until she had gone potty. If she didn't go, she went to her crate.

Also, finding treats she went ape shit over helped A LOT with basic commands like sit, to your room, etc.

We bell train all the dogs to signal when they need to go out. We have a cool reproduction San Francisco trolley bell on the wall that they ring, but they're hard to find so our friends use jingle bells hung on the door. Start by ringing the bell before you take him out. After a few days make him nose the bells, give a treat, leash, take out. He will start to use the bell as the almighty giver of treats on his own. Just keep taking him out every single time you hear the bell. Once he's really good at ringing the bell start withholding treats so it's not every time he rings the bell. Then switch to only a treat if he goes outside. Eventually you don't need treats, just praise. All our dogs have caught on really fast to this.
