Baby Names

Thoughts on these?

I'm 18 weeks .. first baby.. I find out the gender in 3 weeks. We are going with Ophelia for a girl and Winchester ______ for a boy. I really was set on Calliope for a girl but boyfriend loathes it. Winchester has meaning for us. Thoughts on a middle name for either?? ❤️

Re: Thoughts on these?

  • Honest opinion: I Love Ophelia. Solid choice. Winchester is a mouthful at best, and the only nickname I can think of would be Winnie and that is inherently feminine. I would suggest using it as a middle name if possible? On the flip side, it's your choice and if you love it then that's all that matters but be prepared to catch some side eye for the name. It's over the top.

  • Ophelia  is beyond awesome love it!!! Ophelia Noelle

    Winchester is really awful...
  • I really don't like Winchester but I guess if you are doing it you could call him "Chester".

I love Winchester you could always just call him "Win" as for a middle name I would go with something short and classic. Maybe James, Eric, Thomas .. Etc.
  • Ahh my DD is Ophelia  so obviously I love it.
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • If you change your mind on Winchester, Winston might be a simpler choice.

    Ophelia Jane
    Ophelia Rose
    Ophelia June
    Ophelia Ruth
    Ophelia Grace

I like the short middle names to go with Ophelia
  • If the meaning of Winchester is related to guns, there are much nicer sounding names that work for boys. Colt, Barrett, etc. Overall though I am not fond of the trend even as a farmer.

Ophelia is a little intense as well.
  • Personally, I find kids named after guns to be ticking time bombs. If winchester is a family name, or your just really big supernatural fans, I'd middle name it. If you're son as an awkward sullen teenager phase, he'll thank you that you didn't give him a name that screams "I was raised by parents with questionable impulse control."

    Ophelia is pretty, if tragic.
  • Ophelia is nice. I agree with using Winchester as a MN.

They could call him Chester. I would toss Winchester or mn it. I think it would be embarrassing for a teenage boy to introduce himself as Winchester.  .

  • Also loving Ophelia!
  • I love Ophelia, Shakespeare fans of the world unite!

I don't mind Winchester, and if it has meaning, even better. Chester is a fine nn, as is Win (I've known a few Wins in my life).

For middle names I'd keep it classic and short with both, since both first names are more unusual and a little long (syllable wise).

For Ophelia, what about Elizabeth or Claire.

For Winchester, what about Scott or Henry.

  • I think Win would be a cute boy nickname!

I don't have any suggestions for middle names, but I would pick something fairly simple and not more than two syllables.

  • Winchester, ouch. That just screams push me on the playground.

Question on Ophelia, are their NNs for this name, or do most go by their full name? I don't know any Ophelia's IRL.

  • The problem with the NN Chester, at least where I live, is that it's slang for CHild molESTER.
  • I appreciate all the feedback, good and bad. I'm still going with Winchester ❤️ If it's a boy, he'll go by Chester or Win or the middle name until he can decide what he likes best.
